    You can hear the baffle difference from the rear. Baffle out has a slight Harley burrble ,and louder for a longer distance. I love the burrble Enfield engines make. Love the videos

    When you accelerate out the curve @9:45- 9:50 with the baffles in and compare it to the sound @10:30-1035 with baffles out, there's a discernible slightly louder rasp to the exhaust note - it's clearly audible. I like - like it a lot.

    Eyyup! One thing i simply don't understand is the motorcyclist desire to hear massive exhaust noise. I'd be happy to have a silent bike but maybe not at the expense of reasonable performance. Pollution is not good in my book and that goes for sound pollution too. Much preferred are the sounds of nature like the buzzard I heard in this video. So replacing a quiet exhaust for a loud one is nonsense to me unless there's a significant performance improvement. I sound like a grumpy old git but thanks for your amazing and entertaining channel!

    Our local rural roads are in a shocking state. I often gear down to second on bends, and am unsurprised to find a sharp-edged pothole (crater?) out of sight on the riding line. Whether I've become more safety conscious, or the roads are in much worse state than the 1970s when I started out, is hard to tell. It's tempting to put knobbly tyres on the 350 as other 'tubers have done.

    I received the exhausts and installed them and took DB measurements:
    Stock with DNA air filter:
    Idle - 77.4 dBA
    4000 rpm - 85.2 dBA
    Enfield Precision Shorties with DNA air filter:
    Idle - 86.2 dBA
    4000 rpm - 94.1 dBA
    Methodology of measurement:
    Decibel meter was positioned 50cm from the tip of the exhaust at a 45 degree angle. The Decibel meter was 24cm off the ground on a small camera tripod.

    The new mufflers sound great Stu. I fitted a different make but very similar to the Hitchcock offerings. I love the sound that is not overly loud but enough to get the village dogs to shuffle of the roads before I arrive. I also enjoy the whistling sound as I back off going in to bends. Thanks for an enjoyable video and good info on the Shorties. 😊

    I live in Austria ,and drive back to the UK a couple of times a year ( avoiding motorways) and it’s plain to see the war on motorists throughout Germany and France , rural France has massive speed bumps, bollard chicanes and walking pace speed limits and speed cameras in the middle of nowhere !

    Here in france, the govt has increased the speed limit on the back roads due to them realising that the imposed lower limit test to reduce accidents didnt work. During the lower speed limit test, there were more accidents than before and the emissions were higher.

    I just left a comment on TAYMs channel about noise on my videos while I ride. As I mostly watch European motorcycle channels, your mph is much lower and many don't take highways as with the mileage here to get somewhere, side roads would take 4 times longer with traffic lights. So what I am trying to say, I hope they don't decrease speed here any time soon. As highways have just been increased with much of the US to 70 mph and higher. But I do see them lowering speed limits on side streets. Sorry, rambled there, hope you have a great weekend as I hope to film again another video. I need to spend a weekend with you and learn.

    Morning Stu. Definitely a different sound to the OEM silencers. Baffles out seams to have more of a crack in the sound. I don’t know what the powers that be are up to lowering the speed limits. As I see it cars and bikes are not tuned to run at 20 mph so will be running less efficiently and using more fuel. They’ve had to ride a motorcycle at 20mph for distance. I find that tiring. You do get to see all the pot holes though.

    On the exhaust front, I prefer the less noisey standard pipes but as I wear ear plugs can’t hear em anyway! Lol. The main benefit for me to change, would be the considerable weight saving. Nice sound though from those pipes.👍

    • @frankysworld
      @frankysworld 11 месяцев назад +1

      I replaced my factory standards with AEW 201 - which are less swept up bottle type style. The weight loss in the back is notable - makes it easier to fit paniers and i think the overal look of the bike is more early 70's - but that is personal taste. the AEW 201 have a nice "rawr" sound to them, but not obnoxiously loud. I use them with baffles in.

    There are some good guides online for settings on suspension, I found that setting the sag (preload) first made a massive difference to comfort on my 1200 Sportster and soft preload made comfort worse.
    What did help was correct adjustment of compression and rebound as this is what actually controls the shocks travel and characteristics.

    Hi Stuart...great presentation. As usual. I just enjoy your well researched content. Also, the scenery is great and the music clips are of my favourite times.
    Now about this video...I found the baffles in sound pleasant, distinctive and rather classy, as compared to the baffles out, with a marginal difference, as you said.
    Would you be able to tell if there is a greater than 2 dB difference?
    Also, with the microphone on the chest, your auditory reception and appreciation will be affected by the Doppler shift of wind speed (4 x velocity squared) vs the non wind affected exhaust sound velocity in Hz as a distracting influence. Hence the sound reception from an inside helmet microphone is better suited to a Rider's perception. Externally, to the static mic at the roadside, it was perfectly fine.
    Since non invasive cardiology diagnostics is what I do, thought these reference points would be of some value.
    If not, please feel free to trash it. Safe riding and always happy to view your videos. Shashi.

    Sounds great, very subtle difference with baffles out. Have to agree with all the speed limit changes, only the tiniest of country lanes in my neck of the woods seem to have retained their National status, although in such poor condition doing 60 is a death wish, especially now harvest season is upon us, some of those farm vehicles are huge :) Sold my 600 and MT03 for a more comfortable ride, also eyeing up the dirt cheap Meteor 350s at my local dealer, Hunter and Classic arriving seem to have created many cheap low mileage Meteors, just need to make space in the garage.

    I now have the yss front suspension kit fitted, & it is a definite upgrade on standard. On the rear I fitted Hagons, not as technical advanced as the yss. I have really struggled to find a preload& compression setting I’m happy with. The current setting seems the best so far for me. I have come to the conclusion, it’s the surfaces that are so variable & in many cases so bad, that it’s an impossible to solve issue.

    • @frankysworld
      @frankysworld 11 месяцев назад

      I have the same setup as yours with YSS in the front and Hagon 2810 (the shrouded ones) at the back - My pick for the 2810's was primarily an aesthetic choice - wanting that early 70's look instead of those dreadful factory standard anachronisms. The YSS back shocks may be better, but I manage to dial both YSS and Hagons in to quite comfortable (and more so then the factory standard shocks) on my favourite bendy bumpy bimble roads. Took me a few hourse to get there with small step adjustment, but worth the time tuning them in. I had to retune them slightly after about 500 miles as they were settling in and so far (another 1000 miles) they seem to hold out quite fine.

    • @martinowl
      @martinowl 11 месяцев назад +2

      I nearly went for the shrouded version, but settled on the black springs in the end to match the black tank of the Mark 3.

    • @frankysworld
      @frankysworld 11 месяцев назад

      @@martinowl I think that is exactly why I gravitated towards the Interceptor 650; you get to make the bike so quickly "your own" and go for your preferred style. I would agree that for the mark 3, the black springs would match the style very well. At the time of buying mine, I was close to replacing the orange crush tank with a chrome/black one, but then the colour started to grow on me and I decided to go for an early 70's look with fitting some AEW 201 silencers on it - it made thus more sense to for for the shrouded Hagons - even the GT650 touring seat I got meshed in pretty good with the overall look. My next step is fitting the full driver footpeg kit from Tec in silver, followed by adding stainless steel polished mudguards and a tail tidy.

    I started riding motorbikes in the late 1960's when the road surfaces weren't too bad, probably due to the lower traffic levels and lighter vehicles. But, over time , we have been paying more and more money for less and poorer quality services which is one reason why a lot off our roads are in such a terrible state. Whatever happened to value for money ? Any politicians out there want or dare to try and answer the question ?

  • @brianperry

    The sound reminds me of Brit bikes leaving the local watering hole some time ago.... The Enfield sounds like a proper motorcycle, rather than the banshee howl of most multi cylinder bikes...I'm still riding my Street Triple 675. Would you believe l refitted the standard 'silencer' because l got fed up with the constant drone from my fancier looking exhaust. Extra decibels ain't the same as a melodious exhaust note.. The suspension is set towards a more 'spirited' ride, shall we say, however Spanish roads tend to be in better repair than UKs so the occasional bump is acceptable... Regarding speed limits, some limits have been lowered to 30 kph, mostly through narrow villages roads, which is okay. Most main roads remain the same ranging from 50 - 90. 120 KPH on Autovia.

    You might be getting away with loud and no catalytic converter here in the UK. Taking the bike to the continent however, jurisdictions are very very strict. Even with the baffles in, it's hefty fines when the exhaust is too loud. But the biggest problem is when there is no catalytic converter -- you'll face criminal proceedings for tax fraud.
