      The only team in that World cup to beat Italy in 90 minutes. Even Brazil couldnt in the final. It was weird.
      Also the only World cup group were all 4 teams finished with the same points and same Goal Difference.

    I'm a Mexican fan and was proud of our victory. I was also impressed by the passion and the heart of this Irish team and their fans in these brutally hot conditions. This game has a lot of passion but both our teams wear green and I love the passion of our countries and our fans. Viva Mexico and Ireland!

    Fun fact - the little guy behind Jack as he's ranting at the ref is the boot lad Jack refers to, Charlie O'Leary. Despite looking like a child here, he was 70 years old at the time and is still alive today - turned 100 in January!

    I grew up in Orlando and I remember the excitement around the city that we were hosting World Cup games and that Ireland was coming to town. My family came here from Ireland in the 1800s. A lot of people both from Ireland and the many Americans of Irish descent poured into the city. It was a lot of fun. My older friend, who played for his college team was selected as a practice team to scrimmage with Ireland when they came to Orlando. They lost 10-1, but my friend scored the only goal lol 😆

But I remember on 9/11 2003, in Bray, Co.Wicklow our fire station which my dad then worked at, was hosting a charity event for 9/11 first responders & NY Firefighters involved in the 9/11/01 rescue operation came over for it, I was about 15, there was about 35 of the NY Firefighters, I think all of them except for 4 were either Irish-American or Italian-American, the other 4 were 2 Mexican-American & 2 African-American.

    Saw Jack Charlton once at Dublin airport. He had this look on his face like uf you have recognised me do even bother trying to say hello to me. Legend! They get it all day so I'd never bother anyone famous away from an actual sporting event.
    He was over 60 but still had that athletic look about him.

    Aldridge & Charlton had nothing to feel embarrassed about in retrospect. FIFA were being shown up for what everyone knew anyway and would eventually come out.

    Luis Garcia scored 2 goals, Mexico won 2-1, i was 7 and i will never forget that game, i also remember that ireland had a great squad.

    Amusing, but pretty grim. There's a belief going round that the touchline ban was actually FIFA's way of getting back at Jack for criticising them on both the tackle from behind and getting water on to the pitch - not to mention their decision to hold matches in the full heat of the afternoon. I guess the minute you dare to challenge authority, even if you're right, you're asking for trouble...
