@@claytonk7452 thanks mate, I really appreciate that 😁. I could have a go at Anaesthesia - I know everything up to when the drums come in, but never learnt the rest. I’ve always loved that tapped harmonics part towards the end... maybe I’ll have a go!
i’m about 4 years late but i gotta say this is an amazing cover and the fact you not only got very close to the original tone but also showed us all the gear you used for it is super helpful.
Thanks mate! Looking back, I’m not sure how much that mammoth plugin is doing. I get all my tones nowadays with just my pedal board (which only looks slightly different to when I did this cover).
Amazing rendition! The bass screams are exceptional. One of the rare times a cover beats the original, I feel like the original of The Call of Ktulu really misses the emphasis on the bass guitar and you just hit a nail in the head here.
No words can explain how i felt inside listening and watching this video. Now i under stand that Cliff was the God of bass but you are his disciple ! Thanks for thia video and keep It up man! Sure Cliff is happy watching you from up there. Cheers from Italy Tom, you fuckin' rock 🤟
Excellent tone, AAAND proper playing techique which is extremely rare here on 'tube. Visibly you had a strict yet very good teacher. Congratulation, keep it up.
@@Longy_b really?😄 Well, then you're very dedicated and you have good eyes for the details. I used to play finger style as well and the first thing I was taught was the alternate finger picking. Thx for the answer.
@@zoltanember6353 my sister’s friend taught me the very basics of alternating picking fingers and then I think a major and minor scale pattern for the left hand. He then went travelling for 6 months and left me one of his basses and then I just learnt things by looking up tabs online. I then started figuring out bits of theory along the way by noticing patterns in all the tabs I was learning. Then when RUclips started getting bigger and better I probably picked up a few more music theory points from various videos. I think a big part of learning is also just watching footage of your favourite bass players and trying to pick out the fine details of what they do.
unfortunately I only had one camera at the time (My phone!). I have another camera now. Maybe I’ll have a go at doing that on the next video that involves wah or lots of pedal board dancing 😁 it’ll certainly put my video editing skills to the test
I did a little bit yes. The bass is so low in the mix on the original it’s hard to hear exactly what Cliff plays. I checked out a lot of live footage of Rob playing it and managed to get some of his licks under my fingers
Thanks! I can’t actually remember what strap this is. It was completely blank and I just picked it up in a guitar shop years ago. I have since found something very similar on Etsy (I’m sure you can find it by searching something like extra wide leather guitar strap). I got one of those for my stingray (which you can see in my other videos). The extra width definitely helps with heavier basses
Yuval X thanks 😁, oh that’s a hard question - there are so many good ones. I guess if I had to say only one, it would probably be Master Of Puppets. What about you?
@@tigredecorazon-3274 oh! Those are effects pedals - they change the way your bass can sound. You step on them to turn them on and off, and each one has its own controls to change various parameters for that given effect. Combining different effects pedals in different orders is one way to help to create different sounds for your bass.
If you don't mind me asking and don't mind you answering, how tall are you? That bass looks huge on you and Warwick bodies are super tiny compared to most basses.
I don’t I’m afraid. I think I just learnt this from tabs that already exist, watching other cover videos on RUclips and also by watching the live versions from the last decade or so with Robert Trujilo playing. Lots of different sources!
Sorry but I don’t have any. My advice would be to check ultimate guitar, search RUclips for bass isolated versions and to try watching lots of live videos to see how people play it.
Which Metallica instrumental shall I cover next!?
Anesthesia please!!!!!!!!! Btw one of the best covers I have seen if not the best

Orion btw i subbed

To live is to die would be neat. You don't even need to search for a backing track since it's from AJFA!

Probably the best approximation on RUclips, tone-wise. Those screams are pretty brutal. I'd almost say the tone is better than the original
Wow, thanks mate 😁

Wow, thanks! Better than the original, that’s some high praise when it’s Mr Cliff Burton!!!
Perfect cover. Don't even know what to do add, lol.
Man this cover needs more views . Fuckin bad ass man, nailed it
Thanks Craig 😁
Wtf dude that tone is freaking amazing and spot on. Keep rocking✌️
Thanks mate, I was really pleased with the tone on this!
Best cover on youtube by far!
Had to come back to this cover, you just nail all the nuisances and play the fuck out of it! Great stuff!
The best cover I've heard on YT so far. Brutal!
The bass line for this song is kick ass!
Agreed! It’s such a shame that it wasn’t mixed louder
cliff is legendary
Best one I've heard yet! those wah screams give me chills, good job mate 👏
Bro that tone and playing was awesome 🔥

very good job mate :)

If you don’t mind me asking, why do you blend the wah?
I like the sound of having a nice unaffected low end underneath the wah 😁

Use a distortion or overdrive after wah, it will sound more powerful and the screams won't be as dull, nice job though!
thanks man! I've played around with distortion/wah order loads over the years and have always preferred wah first.
@@Longy_b its best to have a fuzz pedal before the wah and a tube screamer after it for cliffs tone. Boss cs2 or 3 somewheere in the mix too

What bass is that?
It is a Warwick Corvette. I mention my pickup setting and active/passive choice in the opening seconds of the video.
@@Longy_b awesome
