- Flash back to a the analogue days. No electronic gadgetry, just man and the machine. A pure form of racing never to be seen again. See race driver and Torque Show co-host Justin Bell as he introduces the iconic McLaren F1 GTR (v1996). Justin describes his experience when he drove, along with his legendary father, for the Harrod's team finishing third at the 1995 Le Mans. Subsequently, 2 time World F1 Champion Mika Hakkinen pilots the 1995 Le Mans winning car round the twisty elevation changes of Laguna Seca Raceway and has a few choice words to say about it!
Best car of all time!
For sure :3
Absolute agree Jeremy. 👍 I have some beautiful photos . From a freelance photographer. Taking shots for mclaren.
I really love the color of that F1 GTR - it's like a gun metal silver, but looks black on track. Just stunning!
Winning Le Mans racing challenge, is the major honor for a driver and the machine. Even winning a F1 championship, don't represents a major honor. McLaren F1 did it! McLaren F1 = the best machine ever built.
maybe the best sports automobile of the 20th century. But the best machine? that's a very big stretch.
Der BMW Power sei Dank !!! 💪💪💪👍
I very much enjoyed that guided tour Justin. Mika, I have to say, that engine sounded way better than I thought it would. It sounds similar to a 1960's early 70's F1 beefed up engine, but tighter and more refined.
How does this video not even have 1,000 views!
thanks! good question. first it's about storytelling then about promoting/market/outreach on social media to garner views. I like the former and not particularly good at the latter.
Weil Viele leider zu wenig Ahnung haben !!!
The SOUND is spectacular!
Steckt ja auch BMW Power unter der Karosserie !!! 💪💪💪👍
Thanks for sharing, great memories of my first Le Mans in '95 and became my favourite race car, such a great noise.
To me Gordon Murray and ron Dennis is the true embodiment of Bruce mclaren.
wow that was cool! ☘️💪🏽🤠👍🏽☘️
Incredible!
Gooooooooosebumps!!!!!
Great video, Justin! A big shout out to John Nielsen, who developed both the road car and the GTR which basically was a modfied road car!
I don't understand why more supercar designs don't copy the centered driver position of the F1. It's the most ergonomically ideal... seriously, who would get into that cockpit and wish to be somewhere else?
Most excellent
I wonder how Mika’s Laguna Seca times in this F1 McLaren and the 1970 McLaren Can Am car would compare?
Interesting question John. I'll have to go back over the 'live' lap and check the timing.
0 dislikes. Incredible.
How many F1 drivers have ended their racing careers without experiencing the chance to drive a sports car even more so at Le Mans. It was a shame that Hakkinen didn't go beyond the DTM.
If you want to win, employ a Finn.
Absolutely
Sexiest body ever !!!!! F1 mclaren, amg gtr clk, first gen nsx.
