Hearing that V12 hit the limiter at those screaming RPM's was AMAZING! SO glad the team at McLaren allowed the car to be demonstrated by an absolutely legendary driver. A true drive in a true race car! Thank you McLaren and Mika!
This was the highlight of the day for me yesterday. It was so cool of McLaren to let us look inside the car in the garage and this solo time on track was amazing . What a sound, it reminds you that electrics have a long way to go before they can come close to matching this incredible sound of a naturally aspirated engine. A final highlight for me was Mika Hakkinen signing my helmet. Thanks Champ!
@@CrazyCoconut722 If you get a chance, go to Laguna Seca for the Historic racing. People are so friendly and let you look at their cars. They are there to race and don’t mind letting the fans get up close. It’s such a great event, I highly recommend it. I do a day trip on Southwest airlines through San Jose although I think United has direct flights to Monterey airport as well. I hope you can make it sometime. Full send, my friend.
Highlight of Laguna Seca yesterday, in my opinion. Everyone was able to walk right up to the car and Mika just casually strolled in, sat down and drove away. Awesome.
This is THE F1. This is the Ueno Clinic 01. This is probably the most valuable F1 ever. And that is academic really, because this will never be sold by McLaren. So maybe a nice parade lap by Mika? Naah. Mika doesn't do that because Mika doesn't know how to drive slow. It is so pure and beautiful. Will probably get trounced around the track by a 570S, but who cares. When it hit the limiter, goddamn.
AGREED! Hearing that V12 hit the limiter at those screaming RPM's was AMAZING! SO glad the team at McLaren allowed the car to be demonstrated by an absolutely legendary driver. A true drive in a true race car!
Crazy part is I got to see this car in person today at my job being loaded up on a plane back to the UK. I wouldn't be here unless someone said that this was THAT car lol. V.I.S.I.T. of a lifetime? lol
Get trounced by whaaaaaatttttt??? A 570 S are you serious dude??? the ultimate hypercar of all times will get troushed by a shitty turbo trash can???? pleaaaaaseeee.......... the glorious naturaly aspirated S70/2 bmw engine along with the full carbon chassis the iconic middle seated structure would easily overcome a 720 S
Correct! This is the first time the car has visited the United States, and likely will be the only time for a VERYYYY long time. Hopefully we can convince the folks at McLaren Racing to let this one be seen more.
Ecstasy! I love hearing the rev limiter scream in defiance! Speed isn't everything. Manual boxes may slower, but they are a key part of the racing car atmosphere. Without them racing isn't ass cool as it use to be. Cars are faster, but how many modern race cars are you in love with? That soulless Porsche 919 Tribute might be the fastest race car ever, but if it crashes you would feel nothing. If Mika shunted this baby we would all be sick for weeks!
Litteraly just reading that last sentence made my stomach churn, and completely agreed, there are very few modern cars I could love like older cars, and the few that I could are all proper stick.
The Porsche 919 that set the lap record at the Nürburgring wasn't a race spec car and would not be allowed to compete in any race at all. The car was specifically set up to lap the Nürburgring as fast as it possibly could.
Saw these cars at Le Mans when they won. The rasping buzz of those engines will stay with me forever. I thought they would dominate for years but that was it.
Stood at the 'Esses Indianapolis' in the rain watching this car go on to win one of the best Le Mans races. I'll never forget the TWR chassis Porsche and Mazda Prototypes trying to catch her, never designed as a racer, a weak in-house transmission and yet this F1 brought it home! BEST.CAR.EVER.DESIGNED.
Mika & McLaren F1 ... Made for each other ... This video is Motorsport heaven for me to watch ... Beautiful car , cool driver... Amazing sound & fun drive ... RESPECT & LOVE 😍🤩😍😘...... LEGENDARY ..
Incredible! Everthing about the F1 GTR is crazy. The fact that it was never designed to be a competition car or the fact that the engine although was motorsport derived, It wasn't truly a full race engine. Despite all that, the glorious BMW Motorsport V12 ran like clockwork at nearly full chat for 24 hours. Porsche and Mercedes developed purport built GT1 cars where are the F1 was truly a road car modified for race use. The F1 GTR story will never be repeated!
watching this makes me think there will be a day when F1 drivers won't know how to properly drive a car like this without paddles, and its sad, Mikka was one of the last drivers who experienced all while competing, from full manual transmissions to paddles
It is already that day basically. And it not just with F1 drivers, outside of Nascar and its ladder system I can't think of another (not amateur level) category that would still use full manual. Formula Ford still has a stick shifter but not sure if it is a full manual, but not all drivers seriously targeting F1 do Formula Ford. However, it should not take anything away from their skill. Give them some time and they will quickly learn it.
Makes me think of the video with Mcnish and Grosjean where Allan jumps into the classic Renault without an issue and Romain gets out there and just grinds gears.
Just imagine being along for the ride when Mika bumps on the limiter on the uphill section and knowing he would not be kind to the corkscrew... Heaven.
I was there for this, and it was such a surprise that Mika was there and so cool that he was beating the snot out of it on the track. I was in the garage after he pulled back into the pits, and he jokingly asked "What's the lap record?". The FINA F1 was there as well. Zak Brown was also standing there - he had a car he was running there.
Was standing against the fence in the infield and the sound of this thing coming down the hill into the hairpin was spine tingling. No electric car will ever elicit the emotional response of an IC engine of this pedigree. Ps thanks Racer for recording this but set the exposure control next time!
You're absolutely right. It's Laguna Seca. No one calls it Monterey...... Only people who have no inkling of car/racing history would call the track the city it is located in. It's like calling Spa, Francochamps/Stavelot. 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Fuck this is good! Made me chuckle when he missed that gear on the first lap. See kids, even professionals do it. It's just the best thing that these cars are still being driven like this on a regular basis. Only the F1
The sound of n/a, no turbo here, Beautiful BMW V12.
Great double tribute, Hakkinen and McLaren F1 GTR.
For all autosport lovers.

Love visiting your store in Newport, btw! Saw my first P1 there, and it was glorious. You guys are great
Mika is the one who originally tested the McLaren F1 at the beginning of the '90s.
The greatest engine sound ever in a GT car and with Hakkinen, the man who beat Schumacher two times in a row. Great video!
Good god... I could watch this over and over. The last of a dying breed, both car and driver.
Already watching it several times over. Can't get enough of that car/engine. 😍

BMW V12 power! Absolutely amazing car and what a fantastic 1995 win it was at LeMans!
Great seeing Mika behind the wheel instead of on the sidelines at F1 races.
RIP Mr Paul Rosche, you put the M in Motor and that engine was a Masterpiece.
Analogue machine at its best. People from the near future will find these clips and freak out!
This is awesome!!!!!!!!! Rolling artwork in every way possible. The missed shift even made me smile.
That car had gearbox problems even before the race. Bent gearbox fork made a hell out of shifting in third and fourth gear.
Makes me think back to my old BPR videos watching Steve Soper double clutching a McLaren.
I'm a simple man. i see Mika and/or F1 , I press like
My all time favourite car driven by my favourite F1 driver ever. One of the few truly respected by Schumacher himself. This was awesome to see

He missed the shift, just saying lol

It's nice to see this car being driven as it was Intended. Not paraded around London streets by some poser with too much money.

It should be illegal for posers to have that amount of money. Money shouldn't be able to buy you everything.
