Hi everyone! olschool style (text only). Three years ago, who could have thought that Thomas Partey would have been MOTM in a Madrid derby? Always been a big fan though, a hell of a player.

Rodri and Partey were Atletico's best mid duo but rarely got the chance to play together.
@@HishamR89 ofc they rarely played together because they are very similar in term of playing style. have you ever witnessed a great football team with two similar type of CM/DM pairings?

I was expecting something “brutal” about him, as in physically harming opponents in a gory way.
Most underrated CDM hands down
Big facts brother. 🙏🏾
He’s not a CDM he’s a box to box midfielder
Considering he's not a CDM I'm not surprised
Agree. Welcome to AFC!
he's a regista.. just big and Ghanaian
He's a physical and defensive monster like Casemiro and still he's very agile and a very good passer. He was easily the best player on the pitch in the Madrid derby.
his best attribute is his long shots tho from out the box
HAHAHAUAUHAUAH you just insulted him by comparing him to Casemiro
@@gaara4667 only a mad man would say that about casemiro
@@gaara4667 Partey still has a LOT more to show before the comparison with Casemiro start....Casemiro 4 times UEFA champions league winner.
@@juananonimo6993 dude stop there!! Look at Real before u talk. And CR7 won those trophies for them not casemiro!!😂😂😂
This guy and William Carvalho are two of the most underrated midfielders. So much quality
Carvalho must have some other issues else he sud be the best.
I rem we used to hear about him every transfer window at Arsenal,
Wonder how he's doing now?
Zod Sinclair
Well he is now with Arsenal 😂.
@@raycorey YUP!!! Halleluiah I;m so Glad! I was actually talking about Willaim Carvalho, glad to see he's still doing well, just like Partey, he's exactly my height & the kind of character we've missed at Arsenal for more than a Decade!!! Glad Arteta used Common Sense for Arsenal's Sake!
Zod Sinclair
Honestly I have been hoping we would get someone like those two for a while now. Since the Gilberto days we have never had anyone who can do what we need in there.
Hope he join us at Arsenal, a man can only dream. Would be amazing.
Ikr but it might eventually become reality
@@oxled8562 hope so :)
No U Emery wanted him during the summer according to Ornstein, I’m sure he’s still on Arsenals radar. Upamecano and Partey are two players I could see them bringing in during the summer, depending on funds.
Keep dreaming lol
@@Elias-xh8xm I will :)
Finally someone recognizes his potential ever I being saying this for years he’s going to be a Great player👏🏻
Ultimately find someone as well liked Partey... the first day Thomas played for atletico came on field with correa at like 70th minute he scored that match but his touches were so elegant since then a big fan of him.. so happy for him that people recognising his talent
Adan Jaimes he's 26 yrs old though
He's in.his prime
This guy is turning into a phenomenal player. So much press resistance, yet he almost always finds the forward pass? Incredible. I think he might be the complete Defensive Midfielder - acts as a Deep-Lying Playmaker, but can also do the work of a Midfield Destroyer, and can even chip in in the final third, which gives him some Vieira-esque Box-To-Box qualities.
Hey Piotr, thanks for the vid, but maybe you could have titled it the "The Brutal Efficiency of Thomas Partey", or something like that? Just a thought...EXCELLENT analysis, as always.
A better version of Casemiro honestly.
@@jonathandittmer9496 don't know if better, surely more complete

Believe me is been like this for years,, people are just recognising him recently..
very underrated, his absence was a massive factor in Atleti exit to Juve last season imo!
Atletico were completely out of shape during this game
@@PiotrFoot great vid as always piotr ;)
Piotr Foot huh if only we were in a good shape we would have been playing ajax
@@PiotrFoot juve didn't let athletico breathe at all, lemar was the weakest one who played in place of partey.
Agreed
I hv watch it thousand times he is a great player , that's wy I love Ghanaian players with their mentality they are unique
How about Nigeria😜
Wld be unfair to judge other African clans and people like this, but I do have few Ghanian friends, and i noticed something special about them, always humble, extremely honest, and hard working. And they never cry about lack of privileges, have patience to go step by step towards success. Just look at Thomas Partey zero controversy even though he was paid so low in Madrid. Just shows how humble and full of patience these guy is. Perfect ambassador for Ghanian people.
No Partey, No Party...
No pirlo no party
no thomas, no partey**
If he were to be an European, his name will be everywhere...so so underrated
Just say it "if he was White."🤣🤣🤣
Totally agree with your comment!!! There is only one commentator on bein sport that likes his greatness!
It’s not because of that. Black players are doing bits in modern football. He’s just underrated
@@stackootb9822 dillusional
Because he’s African that’s all
He is definitely a perfect example of a box to box midfielder with the ability to defend and join the attack..👍👍
I don't see him as a box to box at all (like Matuidi or Doucouré), he's a real holding midfielder but he has only been playing in a defensive double pivot (or right back a few times)
I never showed much appreciation for his football until this video, very underrated player
This Partey guy was hands down the MoTM during the Madrid derby, he literally owns the midfield
literally?
Wow, he really improved his building from the back game
As an Arsenal fan I'm bingeing on Partey ! ❤
I was also shocked to see how much he has improved.
This boy is an elite midfielder and has been slept on. For Ghana he plays a little further forward which is credit to his attacking instincts. Look at his goal record for Ghana as midfielder it’s stupid. I wish Man Utd got him.
Man lyke Partey 🇬🇭🌟 #representingus
we, the atletico suporters, value thomas a lot, he is one of the most important parts of our team and when he doesnt play and we draw (bc we dont lose we just draw) we always say: no thomas ;no partey
Great analisis btw!!
now I understand the tagline 😂
@@hrishikeshparab1236 yes bro I was wondering about the same
@@cutecatshorts3464 yeah 😂
It's a great thing for Atlético Madrid that he's still so underrated. The review here is only on one particular game but Thomas has turned into the best field player of his club since Rodri left. He has reached an insane level since 2017-2018. If I could describe him briefly:
Strengths:
- Ability to cut counter attacks through interceptions or pressure on ball holder (therefore including vision and anticipation)
- Always trying to move the ball forward
- Great combination between technique, physical strength and team spirit
- Calm
- Availability (not as good as Rodri who was definitely the best in the whole Simeone era on this aspect but Thomas learnt to get unmarked more often to offer passing solutions to his teammates)
- Bursting upfront from midfield to score
Aspects still to improve:
- Defending around or inside his box (he doesn't make as many interceptions as Rodri or Gabi there for example and he also tends to commit dangerous fouls there)
- Long passes
- Long shots (many journalists say he's great from long range but Thomas actually struggles to keep his shots on target)
- Still tends to commit a few unnecessary fouls far from his goal or just before half-time, therefore more likely to get booked by referees.
Anyway I like to compare him with Tiago who was the most well-rounded pivot that Simeone coached at Atlético in my opinion because they both have the ability to be decisive all around the pitch. The only thing that I regret is the positioning of Thomas this season. He's taking the role that Rodri had so he can't get on the end of the plays so often to score or assist goals while it really is one of his strong suits. That's why I think that playing him as a number 8 in a 4-3-3 would allow him to show his full potential but that's not going to happen as long as Simeone is here unfortunately.
I've been watching every Atlético's games for many years now (even friendlies) and Thomas is my favourite player at the moment ;)
You're right. I'm an Atleti fan since year's. Thomas partey has some really good qualities. He was actually a no:8 CM. That's why he lack's some major qualities of a DM . He played as a CM till last season along side Rodri in the double pivot. That mean's Rodri had the duty of the DM, and thomas was allowed to push high and join the attack while Rodri prevented the back line. But after Rodri left Thomas was given permanent job as a defensive midfielder. A sudden and consistent switch in his position would be a bit difficult for him. That's why he's not that consistent in enough interceptions or tackles. Saul has often told Simeone about the lack of gabi in the midfield. He was purely pointing out some lack of defensive qualities in thoams like when compared to that of Rodri and Gabi. But he's improving a lot. And also fit's correctly as a DM. He had also made some exceptional tackles this season, like the one against Ronaldo during 2nd leg of champions league group stage. At present he plays alongside Saul in the pivot. Saul is playing in the pivot since Rodri left for ensuring more defensive cover to the back line. But Unlike Rodri who sit's deep infront of the back line Thomas often pushes high and joins the attack aeven though he's playing the role of a defensive midfielder, and when he pushes high from his line Saul will drop temporarily to provide the defensive cover. And after thomas drops back again he will occupy himself beyond Thomas. Both switches the position while palying. Whereas in last year Rodri always stayed deep and thomas was given full freedom to push high. If Thomas become's apure defensive midfielder the Simeone might let Saul paly a bit more higher like Koke play's and shift Koke back to the pivot.
@@aldrinbenny5412 Yep that's pretty much it. I'm just hoping that Atléti will extend his contract and raise that 50M€ buyout clause on Thomas because I heard him during an interview with a journalist from Ghana a few months ago and he said that the Premier League was tempting him. He even considered a move a few years back when Simeone was only using him as a backup option from the bench or as right back. He felt he might have to move on to improve faster. It also sounded like the Premier League was his favourite league so he could give it a try sooner or later.
@@aldrinbenny5412 hes the best midfield player you had
How would you assess him after lockdown?
@@kennedyborquaye8252 he's the best CDM with offensive quality at Atletico. Saul and Koke is the best CMs at Atleti. And Rodri was the best traditional CDM at Atleti.
Love to see him in our midfield. Such a great presence there, he's great at transitions.
Partey is who Fred thinks he is
swear
I wish United would buy him, but then again that's United.
Fred has a poor first touch and poor pass accuracy but is a good marker. He needs to work on the first two attributes.
Stop bashing Fred. He's had a great season. You could say that for Ndombele
Hahahha thank you brother
Im buzzing now that hes an Arsenaal Player. he will Improve our midfield 10 folds
i love players that can perform well in multiple positions. And cdm-rb is the one variety i like most. They are mostly underrated tho.
Of course Philip Lahm is the leading example of that and i see a bright future for Partey.
He is not only cam and rb. I remember in one of Atlético match, he was used as cf and he scored. He is cdm, cm, rb, cf. he is very versatile like alaba.
He is so UNDERRATED
This great player reminds me with Fernando Redondo 🇦🇷 What an artist midfielder ⭐️
His direct passing is unreal.
Even though thomas partey is a classical and clinical DM and sometimes a CM too, he has never been that popular like kante or other classical DMs. Thomas partey is somewhat similar to kante and for me he's enough good for kante, but still he's not popular only because during the past two season's atletico had never gaven him enough opportunities or appearances to prove himself, that's why he's still valued at 50€(million) despite of his quality performance. HE has been with simeone's squad since 2015 he was not used by Simeone that much, because they had Gabi as the all time DM. And when his reign ended with a europa league title at the end of 2017/18 campaign, there came Rodri from Villareal back to his childhood club. He became the perfect replacement for Gabi. Then on he reigned at the DM position althrough the 2018/19 campaign. That means, once agian he lost the opportunity under simeone to prove himself. But surprisingly rodri left to Manchester city. At last only in the 2019/20 campaign he got his opportunity, and he utilised it well. Now he's one of the key players under simeone's Atletico Madrid. Within next one season he can reach at least a 90€(million) market value.
Well, good player is quite an understatement.. this guy is worldclass!
Like Rodri never left. Great replacment Llorente will come good too.
He is much better than Rodri.

Hey Piotr, i was thinking that you should make an analysis of River Plate, from Argentina, i think it's beautiful the way they play(at least in comparison with their rivals here in Sudamerica), plus Gallardo has managed to do something quite impressive, being capable of maintaining the club on top of the continent with a lot of different players that come and go, well after all this i think it deserves an analysis, but anyway thanks for doing this top-notch quality content, Saludos desde Argentina
