Great advice 👍 In Africa acquiring a car is seen as a measure of success. I am a 40yr old that works frm home permanently, no social life nor children only take an uber to the mall...hv an extremely comfortable home🤭 Guess what, I still get asked when am I getting a car😏🥺 Love u and ur husband uThixo anigcine❤
I am 28, settled in my career and still going back and forth about buying a car. The hand me down from my parents is now a bit sluggish but it still works fine. Before that I was using public transport, only got the car when I had my first child. Anyway I am glad I didn't buy a car when I started off, I would have been so miserable. I think for me a good quality of life all round is very important to me, I was able to go on vacation, spoil myself and pay bills in peace which I don't think I could have been able to do if I forced myself into buying a car at the start of my career. Great video Atlegang
I wish I kept my hand me down longer. Thought it would break down but the guy I sold it too still uses it and it looks good. Take your time, you will have everything you desire, theres really no rush🙂
I'm 31... Never ever owned a car, doesn't bother me ESPECIALLY since I work permanently remote. I uber around when necessary or my partner or dad takes me around. I have 2 children and their extra mural activities (karate, music, swimming, coding) cost as much as a car and some. My priorities are just different. When I can afford it comfortably I will purchase it because life is easier, but in the meantime I'm honestly okay.
Sometimes you don’t neeed to buy a car. You just need access to a car. Whether it’s your partner’s car, your family, borrow it for a bit, you do what you need to do, and give it back with a full tank.
Nna I'm Aphi and Aphi is me. That's one of the many reasons why I sold mine because I was not travelling much on weekends and transport to work was just two trips a day. I felt liberated when I sold it in 2019 and it was the best decision ever because covid hit in 2020. I'm still looking/saving for one but I'm not in hurry as yet because I feel like I currently don't need it. My lifestyle hasn't really changed compared to when I had a car so ya. All is good!
Do I? Wish the taxi, bus and train system was more reliable because Uber is pricey. A friend of mine was lucky enough to get accommodation close to work so thats an ideal situation because she walks. Please do an updated video on your health care routine- what you eat in a day, skin care and hair care. Love your content 😎
I hope you know how much we appreciate your videos🙌 always something to think about & learn..real life challenges that we all face. I also don't need a car. I pay less than 500.00 a month to get to work and I'm sleeping on weekends 😂..buying a car would be an very dumb decision. When I go and buy groceries, I make sure I buy heavy things like milk and rice etc once - request uber to go home & that's it. If I go out with my friends I don't mind requesting via uber because its a once off and not often expense. Thank you. We need to educate ourselves. Dikoloi adi fele..we will get there when the time comes and the need arise. Thanks Atli.Stay blessed
Been confused and praying about this. I need the car and I will get the cheapest and I will be fine. I am spending so much on public transportation and there are no taxis where I live. This helped me so much
Thanks for the video. I made a decision i will only get a car when we go back to office. Right now I am saving up the instalment and petrol I was paying on my car.
A car or any liability for that matter should not be a status symbol but a need. Do not buy a car unless u need it. Do not buy anything unless u have the need and financial means to own it
Love this video... been saving but because all the jobs I get are contracts its tricky . I make sure that with each job I get I move closer to work in that way I don't spend alot of time and money traveling to work. Thank God for uber and bolt . The only reason I would think is valid enough to buy a car is that home I'd 3 hours away and I go once a month🙈😹....I'm sure by the time I get a permanent job I would have saved enough to purchase Cash
I have been working for more than 5years( I’m not a lawyer) my work place is near home, so I was using one taxi to get to work all these years . When Covid hit using taxis was not safe for me anymore, so for me Covid actually pushed me to get a car, I’m was not working from home and my work sometimes required me to stay in till late. I always knew my first car should not set me back financially so I did save for it but I can tell you my expenses have really shot up and every time an increase in fuel prices is announced my heart Sis😒
I've had my car for almost a decade now, it is doing well. Working from home and really see no need to buy a new car. Its all about motive at the end of the day. Understand your why and never buy anything out of pressure.....
Hi Atli! Such an informative video, I really enjoyed watching it and you sharing your insights! I've since left general practice now but I wanted to point out that from personal experience and what I've seen for several of my friends, firms will put clauses into contracts for you to get a car within about 3 months of you getting your articles. It's unfortunate especially because of how unpredictable being retained can be but a lot of CAs have to get cars that they can't afford in the long run. I remember doing my articles last year driving 100+kms a day for work sometimes although we had two messengers lol. I think it depends on the size of the firm as well! I just thought I'd share that aspect because yes the LPA does make it unlawful but I know that even legal recruiters have told me preference is given to those with cars or at least a license. I think it also depends on whether a firm does Mag Court work, because those typically will require CAs to essentially also be messengers of sorts.
That is soo unfortunate and in a way, discriminates against CAs without cars 😕 argh I’m sorry about this. And yes you are right, it depends on the size of the firm and the work done. I can’t even say “I hope they pay you enough” because expenses differ from person to person. Sometimes, a car is just not someone’s priority 😞
@@atleganggovuza6733 it's absolutely terrible, I'm in corporate now but I still think about how CAs have to deal with so much pressure at the beginning of their careers it's insane!
@@kaboentle5502 I don't think so, I think based off of what Atli was saying and from what I've seen from friends that isn't the case with bigger firms:)
Your such a passionate speaker 😂 honestly I’ve also beeeen postponing to buy because I live at work (hospital quarters) but also home is 5 hours away😭!! and I have intentions to study further full time , its tricky 😩
Lol that passion is sometimes interpreted as me fighting but it’s really just passion 😅 I’m chuffed someone picked this up in what I think is in a positive way 🙏🏾 Yah, it is tricky 🥴 there really isn’t a set answer
Hi new subie here. Thanks for the video. I agree neh but i think for me i dont need a car but for my sanity and safety i prefer getting a car of my own. Sometimes i leave the office late and uber drivers and the stories ive been hearing eish. I refused to purchase a car during my articles. I told myself id only get a car if i get retained. Im glad i decided to wait.
How I wish I didn’t need a car. First 2 years of working, I lived near work and could save so much. Now that I have to drive to work needed to get a car, but honestly I miss not spending money on instalments and petrol. I’m a doctor and you know how my people pre-order BMWs before they even start working, but honestly le nna I’m leadership of don’t get a car unless you need it.

Oh I love this 🙌🏽🥺 You did what was best for you 🌸 no fear, no pressure 💯
Literally same boat. This morning something else broke in the car my folks gave me and now I have to seriously consider getting a new one.

Hey Atli,
You're spot on here. 🎯🎯
Brilliant vlog! 👌
#Vlogmas #FinanceTalk
Also, for anyone who buys a car now without needing it the resale value is just going to keep going down
Appreciate the advice sis, thank you 💚
I am so excited for this video because i recently been made permanent at work and I’ve been asking myself this question.
Soo excited
Congratulations Lebo 👏👏🙌🔥👑..save save save!

It's better to share 1 car with a spouse and split the expenses.
Absolutely
Thank you sisi. You make sense.

I feel like this video speaks to me so much cause I love bikes too!😊
Other thing i feel people really need to consider is the environmental impact of having a car
.
this is a bit off topic but I just wanted to know what does one have to do to be a state prosecutor?
What if Aphi is stll paying for the Polo Vivo?
Thank you
At this point of time nothing is guaranteed. This pandemic might even go on for an two years😭
