I will be doing Diploma in Law at Unisa this year and I'm starting to regret it. I should have applied for LLB instead but my question is , if I'm done with my diploma am I gonna do my LLB for another three years or I will only be doing just a year ?
When you start doing LLB you will be credited with 13 modules that you did in Dip in Law than you will be left with 26 modules that you will do for 5 semesters which is 2 years and a half
I have plans for an LLM and LLD respectively. My interests for LLM and LLD are Banking Law, International Law, World Trade Law, Human Rights Law, and Constitutional Law. I don't want to be an attorney forever but I want to use the postgraduate degrees for high level government positions and/or the United Nations.
Sounds great. I want to stay in practice but I still want to pursue both LLM and LLD what is your take? Are you of the view that it will not serve any purpose on practice?
@@alphinahmatsepe2333 I'm not sure if postgraduate degrees in law will not serve you well in practice. I assume that Judges have postgraduate degrees. Doing postgrad should be something of your own choice and how that choice will fit into your career aspirations. But for now, since I'm seeking articles, I would hold off on postgraduate degrees till I'm done with my articles should I find them. And since you want to stay in practice, then do the postgraduate degrees in part time mode while you keep gaining valuable experience. Best of luck ❤️‼️
I am super excited about this! I always heard that studying for a Masters as an attorney is pointless unless you want to become an academic but surely there must be some benefit either way. Thank you for this.
I got my degree from Unisa and definitely not going back to study my LLM there and probably also my LLD. I think one becomes a better candidate if you get your qualification from different institutions especially if you are from Unisa, generally every institution has it's own challenges and stigmas.
@@mamotsemahlatsi542 Atleast you got your graduation date , I am still waiting for my graduation date and they are definitely taking forever to audit marks they want to tell us few days before graduation aai, Unisa administration is honestly annoying it's such things that one will vow to not go back there really.
@25:05 , Sis Atlegang can you share how to be more concise while being detailed. I think this applies through out a legal career from our studies to work, but it's quite a challenge for a lot of us, we are either to lengthy about what we're saying or in hopes of being brief, we don't share enough vital information and somehow we are really being "taught" how to do this
Wow. The presentation is awesome, valuable, useful and encouraging. I ever thought of such. I am completing my llb and so confused where to go. Hay Mrs Govuza I love your content I want to find out is it difficult to get articles when you are 40 with good marks and a great CV compared to a young aspiring 25 year old with the same work ethic or is age not that much of a problem in law exept 65 and older?
Good question. You can definitely find a job at that age, and a good one. They do appreciate working with people with more experience so I think you will get opportunities at the right firms 🙏🏾✨
Insightful information, thank you very much. It is quite unfortunate that Unisa degree is looked down at and I think we are very wrong in that. I will substantive my argument in this way. Most people look down on kids who studied at rural schools and it is astonishing that most students who studied there flourishes in life. The ability to can be able to absorb and internalize information got nothing to do with where one studied. There are lot of people who studied in the so called best universities and they are still found wanting when compared to students who studied at Unisa. I'm not saying that Unisa is the best but all I'm asking is that, let's be objective in our critique and come up with ways yo solve the problem if there is a problem. Finally, let's also understand the reason why Unisa exists and the kind of people it accommodates, not everyone is able to can afford other prominent universities. Let's build and not destroy...
Do you think different kind of LLM's are more popular for employer, like corporate for instance or tax to really make you more attractive and can it be beneficial in terms of salary negotiations?
Hello 👋🏽 I did it by coursework. For me, that was easier. 4 modules and a dissertation. I think it matters coz by coursework, you get to learn at an advanced level on a subject area of choice, whilst also doing research on a topic you have chosen

Oh no, don’t put it like that So law school is what we all do to be admitted. So it’s part of being an attorney. I wouldn’t say it makes a difference, but it is a formal requirement
I definitely think it adds to your skill set and your attractiveness in the market. Remember everyone has an LLB. So sometimes you need something that sets you apart. Many people have LLMs, don’t get me wrong. All I’m saying is that it helps one way or another
Going down the comments and I feel worried. I'm doing my first year in LLB through UNISA. I have not seen much on RUclips about people who study through UNISA. Securing articles ? Big 5? Const court ? And general experience. Do people recommend or not. Please do a video 🙊. Also can I transfer from unisa to another institution ( in terms of credits)
Hi Zola. There are so many people doing their undergraduate degree in law straight from high school in UNISA. other have went along to open their own law firms.
@Kokiinieze.r it's horrible, the way you have to hunt for the supervisor it's pathetic, the lecturers don't rely to the queries you have, if they reply it will be too late.

Yes, corporate law or tax law is more specialised and appealing to the employer especially if the company is big on that

When applying for LLM at wits must we write a mini proposal to be considered for admission??
