The veteran actor, Karl Malden is guest on 'The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder' during this 1998 interview. Also include is the opening and closing of Snyder's 7-29-98 show.
Karl Malden (1912 - 2009) was an American actor. He was primarily a character actor, who according to Robert Berkvist, "for more than 60 years brought an intelligent intensity and a homespun authenticity to roles in theater, film, and television", especially in such classic films as A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) - for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor - On the Waterfront (1954), Pollyanna (1960), and One-Eyed Jacks (1961). Malden also played in high-profile Hollywood films such as Baby Doll (1956), The Hanging Tree (1959), How the West Was Won (1962), Gypsy (1962), and Patton (1970). From 1972 to 1977, he portrayed Lt. Mike Stone in the primetime television crime drama The Streets of San Francisco. He was later the spokesman for American Express. Film and culture critic Charles Champlin described Malden as "an Everyman, but one whose range moved easily up and down the levels of society and the IQ scale, from heroes to heavies and ordinary, decent guys just trying to get along", and at the time of his death, Malden was described as "one of the great character actors of his time" who created a number of "powerhouse performances on screen". Malden was also President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from 1989 to 1992
Tom Snyder (1936-2007) was an American television personality, news anchor, and radio personality best known for his late night talk shows Tomorrow, on the NBC television network in the 1970s and 1980s, and The Late Late Show, on the CBS Television Network in the 1990s. 'Tom Snyder was a pioneering figure in broadcast journalism who brought a no non-sense attitude to broadcast television news. Loved by millions, respected by peers, and resisted by the executives for speaking his mind.'

If I could bring two people back from the dead just to hear their feedback concerning the cancel/political culture of today it would be TS and George Carlin. Mr. Malden was a supreme lead actor with supporting actors face. Born just a bit too early to get those roles in the late '60s and 1970s. Great actor/ goodperson.

My Fathers 3 brothers all worked in the steel mills in Pittsburgh. It takes a tough man to work in the mills.
I watched Mr. Malden work in Streets and he was a really nice man.
And I watched the steel worker show he did that didn't make it.

My cousins lived in Elwood City, Pa. and they said the tube steel mills ran the town and they worked 24/7 and shook the town when they rolled off the form. I agree and I always enjoyed Karl in every acting job he ever did. He was a genuine guy and though he could play tough, he had a kind heart.

“Confusion in Herzegovina “ that’s one way of putting Genocide and Ethnic cleansing in the former Yugoslavia. In Patton Jarl raised his voice only once to Patton “ I didn’t pick you Ike( Eisenhower) picked you”. After acting with Marlon Brando in two films “A Streetcar Named Desire” and On the Waterfront. Karl worked with Brando again in a Western called “One Eyed Jacks which Brando also directed around 1960-61??

A very versatile actor that could play the white hat or villain with equal skill. He really maximized what he had in terms of skills. To see him in some movies turn heal is a shock because he played the straight man so often.
