I remember watching Thunderbirds with my dad and brother during the re-runs in the late 90s and early 00s. I still love it to this day and I thank the Andersons for their creativity and Dad for introducing me to the show.
Grew up with the 90’s re-runs and I have never looked back, it’s been both a part of mine and my brother’s childhood and I thank Gerry, Sylvia, Jamie Anderson and the rest of their extended crew for all the fond memories and excitement!
Early 2000s rerun viewer here. I remember my dad sitting us down to watch City of Fire and being mesmerised by the explosions, the thunderbirds and the music, it was so different to anything else I’d ever seen and loved it immediately! We taped as many episodes as we could to vhs and would rewatch them over and over - getting the tracy island play set for christmas was the best day ever!!!
Was born in 1956 so when this new TV series came along it was really my dream TV show. Stingray and Fireball XL5 were also in this decade - great shows for kids and young adults (my Dad loved it).
Thunderbirds are go. The Late Jerry Anderson and his wife and all who was on board and with the Great music by Barry Gray all were geniuses in there own right putting together something that has lasted all of these years when we were still little kids. Both Adults and children could enjoy.
One of the absolute jewels of this little boy's youth (I'm 64 years "young", oh-ho). Even in those days, Lady Penelope made me weak at the knees. But didn't I hear something now about interest from Japan? And even today, the 'Thunderbirds' theme makes a damn fine ringtone for your phone. Yes, Milady...
Way ahead of its time. I remember a scene where someone in a dangerous situation was talking about Brains to someone else and said *"....look at that poor guy talking to his watch..."* There you have it, Brains invented the GSM watch. 😁
Saw them in the 70s, after Lew Grade worked out a syndication arrangement alongside the original Muppet Show. I was slightly creeped-out by the marionettes, but blown away by the details in every shot. The team that made Thunderbirds was astounding in their work. Thanks for the video, it was informative.
I would liked to see a scene shot from the behind the scene of Thunderbird 3 because I'm always curious to know how they manage to pull it up from under neath the round house at it's huge size while getting ready to launch.
Team America F yeah should be watched by everyone is over the age of 15 the age of the dvd says if you like Thunderbird TV or movies your sure to love it

if you were reviewing Thunderbirds but had to use only a single word, what would it be? i have been thinking about this for a while and the one word i keep coming back to is "Charming". but i guess that can be used for all of Gerry Anderson's puppet based shows.
Shame this franchise didn't make it to US TV back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. We would've loved it. And throw in a Gold Key or even DC comic series and some toys (especially with those gizmos and vehicles), it would've been right up there with Superfriends and maybe even He-Man. But, at least it lead to us having Space 1999.
In fact it was exportedcand shown in the US. In fact most people had no idea it was British. The show was made very much with the US market in mind - hence being made in colour and with American accents.
You forgot to mention the six(6) one(1) Troy Ounce Silver coins minted by the British Royal Mint for the 50th Anniversary. These coins have almost doubled in their value since their minting.
My understanding is that after NEW Capt. Scarlet ended, Gerry Anderson was trying to get a CGI version of Thunderbirds going. I heard he did try to get the rights back but died before getting a series done. However, this lead to the creation of the excellent CGI Thunderbirds Are Go series. Is this true? If so, will you cover the series in any way? I would love for you to do a comparison video on how different the two series are (and NOT because one deals with puppets and the other is CGI either).
According to Jamie Anderson, none of the ideas that his father came up with for the Thunderbirds reboot ended up in Thunderbirds are Go. All we know for certain about Gerry Anderson's vision for the Thunderbirds reboot was that he was going to gender-swap two of the Tracy brothers.
@@epsilonalphaargo1948 And to add even more details to this story, in the 2000'sm we has the Thunderbirds Movie and another attempt to reboot the series in Thunderbirds:IR by 2005.
Soooo disappointed with the live action film. Great cast, and I have always enjoyed Jonathan Frakes' work as a director, both on TV (mainly Trek related, no surprise) and on the big screen. JF wasn't familiar with Thunderbirds and tried to stay faithful, especially with the onscreen hardware, but the decision to de-age Alan and make him the centre of the movie was bizarre (why is it always about Alan? Poor John never got a look in again). Blowing up Thunderbird 5 (or the monstrosity they called T5) was like blowing up the Enterprise. And NO WAY would Jeff have committed all his adult sons, the entire IR team in effect, to a single dangerous location. Nor would he have gone with them. Penelope and Parker were the best things about the film. Ben Kingsley would have been good as the Hood, if restricted to the "canon" version, not some Matrix/ Crouching Tiger/ Black Widow hybrid. Just my thoughts. I was 9 or 10 when Thunderbirds was first broadcast. It gave me chills. I hadn't seen anything so impressive and memorable since the very first episode of Doctor Who. The theme still gives me goosebumps just thinking of it
I do love the Thunderbirds Series from the 60s and I also like the first Thunderbirds movie but not too sure about the second movie because there not much rescuing except for the International Rescue team and what's worst during the film scene Alan said to Captain Foster that Marriages are out of the Question which mean that Alan and Tintin will never be married someday💖💍. I mean come on this so unfair on Alan and Tintin because they deserved each other and so do Scot, John, Virgil, Gordon, Brian and Lady Penelope too when they meet someone and fall in love too. Beside the legacy of International Rescue must continue on to the next generation like the Power Rangers for example even though that's slightly different.
Oh God... I just had a terrifying thought. I hope that those modern day billionaires with the space fixation don't watch "Thunderbirds are Go" and see the Zero-X. They're going to want to build one. Well, couldn't be as ugly as their current vehicles though!
I grew up with this show. I came across The Shadows through this show. The Americans should have taken this show on. The live action movie was awful. It could have been great.
*As a first year Generation X'er born in May 1963.* (Mother first year baby boomer generation born WW2, while Barack Obama last of boomer kids) These are some of the things that made our generation what it is...Doctor Who, Star Trek, Thunderbirds, Speed Racer, Space 1999, GI Joe (Back then they said. _A doll for boys, really?_) Block city/Legos, Wacky pack stickers, Arcade game fad, CB radio, Cell phone, Atari 2600 (Sears Telegames first year) The Apple II, Commodore Pet, Matel Football. E-mail, VCR cassette, 1st Color blind friends Gen, Dial up/Broadband World Wide Web 24hr streaming live radio... What else can u add???
The live action film could have been SO much better than it eventually was. It was very apparent that Frakes didn't understand the source material well enough. Silly things crept into it like fake puppet hands with strings in CGI or silly sound effects during fight sequence...I think RR were right not to associate their brand with this film, but I like what they did with the CGI Thunderbirds FAB1 as although it looks like a RR the Grille actually has the IR logo stamped on it yet still looks very much in the spirit of RR. The film was very child friendly plus the inclusion of Fermat (Brains' son) and the fact Allan was much younger than he should have been just so they could work the story around him when it should have been more ensemble. I actually cringed when in the opening moments the narrator said that this fantastical rescue group went by the name of their rescue vehicles the Thunderbirds, almost shouting in the cinema at the screen '..No!, They're called International Rescue'.
Then you cringed in vain, because right before that line, the narrator clearly states, "In a secret island in the South Pacific, the courageous Tracy family runs an organization called INTERNATIONAL RESCUE," then adds that "they go by the name they gave their incredible machines: the Thunderbirds," "they" referring to the pilots. In other words, the movie did what you asked for, yet you ignored it just to make a complaint. This is blatant scene manipulation. Even if the pilots never referred to themselves as the Thunderbirds in the original series, this is just the movie harmlessly taking liberties with the source material and possibly finding a way to drop the title, leading into the title sequence. No need to be a purist about it.
I was born in 1965. So the THUNDERBIRDS are mine ! Ha ha Well, they are as old as me. I love them all to bits! ❤👍 Favourite line? BRAINS: "I don't think they're going to make it ..." M 🦘🏏😎

Both of you guys rock.
I really enjoyed all the productions of Jerry Anderson and his tremendous team of artist and writers. Fantastic memories
Its Jerry with a G not J .
Saw as a child and still just as exciting today as they were then
Remember when this hit American tv in 65 this show taught honor and integrity and morals to us along with beautiful effects and music.
incredible to see the series of how it evolved from his series to his movies that were wonderful and a masterpiece
Not that one scored by Busted though
...with actual no offence to Busted.
If we know that his live action movie was not good, it was very bad, it had bad reviews and poor collection
That was the definition of epic and the music is just memorable.
Grew up watching reruns of this show! Loved it!
Thunderbird was brilliant great animation and model’s it was great in the 60s had it on every week
Fascinating!
I loved this as a kid in kindergarden! Blessings to the creators! 😇🙏❤️🎵
I LOVE this series!!!
A fantastic and ingenious production for the 20th first century….
An hour long kids show back in the 60’s was ground-breaking on it’s own.

Thunderbird 2 was always my favourite machine
Interesting to note that UK households were watching this in black and white until at least ‘67. We didn’t get a colour TV until ‘69 :(
Excellent
I got to see a LIFESIZE FAB1 in Orlando. Really cool experience, although I seemed to be the only one who knew what it was 😄
