Thank you Steve Kuna for writing the Bill ensuring Hawaii’s schools must teach Hawaiian Language, and for helping to get the bill passed, along with many others to help native Hawaiians.❤
Mahalo! I'm learning Hawaiian at home and this is so helpful, both for understanding more the Hawaiian language, culture and history and practice my listening skills. Love the channel! Hugs from Brazil.
Mahalo nui loa for the making of this wonderful program. It really is a boost for all those who are struggling worlwide so that their native languages do not be a dead jewel but rather a living treasure.

“Standard Hawaiian” but I agree, I feel the Niihau dialect should be taught opposed to standard Hawaiian. imo it probably either near exact or is in fact the original way Old Hawaiian was spoken….even my Tutu would say modern Hawaiian is NOT how her parents/grandparents used to speak, our Ohana descends from Waipi’o on the Big Island.
For some reason, "K" & "T" were merged, so many particles & words that started with "T" are now "K", while "R" was changed to "L", which doesn't even exist in most Polynesian langauges (e.g. Tohorā>Koholā, thus turning a cognate with Samoan & most other Polynesian dialects into a totally different word). Really sad, "standard Hawaiian" is made up by missionaries & was never a real language.
@@bustavonnutz exactly. Look at old maps of Hawaii you can see the original spellings of the villages. Kalihi was, Karihi, and Honolulu was, Honoruru, kanaka need to go back to the original pronunciations.
The US state status of Hawaii is a legal fiction in the US congress. Hawaii is a sovereign constitutional regency and part of the British Commonwealth. It is under hostile occupation by the United States and has been in a state of War for 127 years as declared by President Grover Cleveland. Negotiations are in progress to administer Hawaiian law in the occupied nation as prescribed by international law and to quit the propaganda that Hawai'i is a part of the United States.

@@isaiah_hi93 No wonder, my mother could not make sense of it, when she tried to go back and relearn her native tongue.
Good to know, mahalo.
