@@boxandtravelexactly. Given it’s at least ten years old seemingly unchanged it’s well and truly due for an update. At least a factory fitted Anderson plug, I know they say fitting one won’t void your warranty but not everyone wants to be rewiring a new appliance.
Really enjoyed the video, Fantastic unbiased review, with the information to form a view on the quality of the units. Look forward to more videos to come! Code word: Travel Oven.
It’s a shame , if car is running you get good results as voltage is high but once your running just off battery it’s not the best for any travel oven. If I’m cooking I do it while traveling ,pies, donuts, roasts etc
every Auzzie loves the Travel Buddy, but glosses over the elephant in the room that they have to spend extra money and 'time' modifying it to make it as good as cheaper off the shelf Chinese units. Just because its Australian does not make it better especially when the internals and materials are comparable by origin
Travel Buddy is still the best. I’ve had mine now for over 3yrs now, & have the Kaon trays, plus the insulated door. The best feature is the run switch as I will cook a roast, & it takes about 5hrs. I did put an extra inline switch as I did leave the oven on for 3 days in which I killed my battery.
We run 2 Travel Buddies, one in the 4x4 and one in the Coaster and I have switched the catch over on one but not the other. I did have some trouble with the door opening but it wasn't as you might expect, the one in the 4x4 doing it. It was the one in the Coaster on ordinary bitumen roads. Possibly due to the fact that the one in the Coaster is mounted sideways and the one in the 4x4 is mounted with the door facing the rear. There must be quite different forces at play to cause that difference with the doors. We also replaced both electrical plugs to Andersons as the ones that come with the TB MELT! They are useless crap and the company should get rid of the ciggy lighter style. To cook properly with the engine off you need a step up voltage converter and this makes a huge difference. We have found that the Travel Buddy doesn't quite get to 200 degrees, about 192 is the best we have managed in testing. When it comes to which travel oven to buy people need to think about more than just the cost. Yes it is better for our economy to buy Aussie made but there are other forces at play too. China is becoming more and more aggressive on the world stage and when you buy products made in China you are helping them to fund their military and their obvious expansionist agenda. China IS NOT our friend and where possible we should be looking for products made in Australia or places other than China is at all possible. Yes I know this is quite a political view but helping China by purchasing so much from them will probably come back to haunt us in the long term. Your choice of where the products you buy comes from can make a big difference to how the future may turn out.
Hi and thanks for watching and yeah i did not want to get political hence why i just pointed it out it was made OS. Yep the plugs are not that good but i must say i still have the ciggy plug on the TB but i really should get around to changing it. Thanks for telling me about the door ad mine has not popped open yet but time will tell. Happy travels

A well-balanced review in saying that it's a long Jevity I've had my travel buddy for eight years now never give me any trouble so it should be interesting to see how these copycat ovens go in long Jevity thanks for the video 😀
Nice review mate. Only new to your channel. I prefer to styling of the travel buddy over the kings oven. I feel that glass door as appealing as it may appear adds zero value as just like a home oven you tend to open it and have a closer inspection of what you are cooking. Each to their own but travel buddy for the win Code word : Travel oven
Quite a few people on the forums do use them and claim to get some great results. I have built a remote for my oven so i can maximize the pre heat when driving. Have you got a TB?
HI and thanks for watching , we would love to do one if you can organize the unit to be shipped to us we will happily do one and then maybe another giveaway ;)
There are quite a few now but i do like the smaller ones like the original travel buddy as it pulls like 6A max so you can just plug it in and off you go. For the bigger ones i would say Aussie made is a great thing but going beyond that, anything with the "run on" feature would be a start but i cant really recommend anything as i have not personally gone through them all... i know TB have a great warranty but there are brands like 'kick ass, tent world just launched one, road chef a well have 2 but i would also consider if your on a tight budget the sub 100 ones from automega and jaycar might be worth looking at as well.
Kings oven element died after 7 months but they replaced with new oven .It would not seem too difficult to replace the element but would like to find a video on how to do this .

i bought a Kings adventure travel oven to use with a 12 v battery box , then got a small travel buddy . takes less than an hour to heat food in foil containers at work .
On August 2022, I bought one KINGS 12v Adventure Oven to use for 4 weeks. It was not working no heat up. September 2022, Replaced new one under warranty. I am glad it was used until November 2022 faulty again. Grrrr... ruined my lunchtime in the caravan holiday; now I emailed the 4WD Supacentre team a slow answer. I still wait for a full refund. I have had one KICKASS Travel Oven for 18 months with no problem.
Ah man sorry to hear you are having no luck with a warranty claim- my belief is no matter how good a product is its only as good as the manufactures warranty process.... Has it been sorted yet? can you help out @4wdsupacentreAu ??
Hey mate, yeah it can sometimes but returns to normal once cooled on both ovens.. i actually don't know of any ovens that don't warp/move with the addition of heat. Have you got an oven ? if so which one?
@@boxandtravel Thanks for confirming the behaviour of the oven(s). I ended up buying a brand called "On The Road". My only gripe with these ovens is that the deep dish tray is not like a regular home oven, where it pulls out so far and then stops. I pulled out a hot tray from the oven and everything fell to the ground because it wasn't supported. Haha! Lesson learnt!
You say kings is $50 cheaper than travel buddy but you did not add the expense of door upgrade should do comparison with standard unit as results would be different
Hi Gary as mentioned in the video we did the tests with insulated door both on and removed and found the insulated door makes little to no difference in performance , others have done the comparison with it on and off and have had the same result
Stay away from the cheaper copies, travel buddy and road chef are the only two you should be looking at and both perform about the same, I had one the same as the kick ass and it was terrible the bottom deformed upwards when heating up and would nearly touch the bottom tray burning what ever was on that tray, the tray itself fell apart first trip, the vent holes were at the side of the door which didn't allow the steam to escape so high moisture foods like chips didn't crisp up as well. I returned it and bought a travel buddy and never looked back. Also look at using a 9v - 13.8v voltage regulator that will give you constant 14v for faster heat up and cook times whether traveling or stopped.
