Yes, this is very much sung in Korean, it is a very patriotic Korean song, this is why Sohyang is wearing a hanbok, traditional Korean clothes. It is based on a 600 year old folk song which was about two lovers. The song is about the longing for the North and South to be one. That if the island of Dakdo sings Arirang while floating in the East Sea the hope is the boats from the North and South will gather there and be unified in heart. The songwriter’s parents had to leave two sons and a daughter in North Korea during the war. His father’s dying wish to him was “when Korea reunites, go find your older brothers and sister and tell them that their parents did not abandoned them”. Where everyone in the audience sings along is where Sohyang brought in the original Arirang lyrics and melody. It's very emotional when the audience start singing together.

Yes, the violinist (I do not know the name of) is an accomplished and well known musician from South Korea. So Hyang can sing anything. Her cover of "I Have Nothing' (her in a blue dress at the DMC Festical) is legendary. She has some of the best live performances I have ever heard. "Misty' from the Begin Again Concerts is awesome, and 'Lean On Me' with Michael Bolton in the audience led him to ask her to do concerts with him through Asia. Briefly, she was married to her present day Husband when both were 20 ! It was discovered very quickly after her marriage that she had Uterine Cancer! She had surgery in short order,and during surgery the doctor discovered she had Cancer on both sides not just one as tests had indicated! Her husband and his parents were asked what to do! Immediately they said save her and remove both sides, so it was done! She would be unable to bear children But her Father-in-Law , said if they want children adopt! To add to her health problem later she was found to have Hepatitis! This two things weakened her immune system and in period of about 3 1/2 years ( 2014 to 2018) she contracted Pneumonia 8 times! She was on the verge of retiring from singing! She went to see a sister(-in-law) in New York( she was playing guitar in Joe Jonas’s band! They Both went to Boston for a couple days. While there she saw a Big Banner, with a President Roosevelt quote’,” We Have Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself”. She thought on it and decide to go home and Do her Best to Carry On! ( she then Entered ,” King Of Masked Singer, Competition! Which she won six consecutive times, setting a new record for ,wins by a Female Artist! Sohyang is classified as a full lyric soprano. It is worth Googling that to get more info about her range. She can cover everything from a D3 to an Eb7, an incredible four octaves and a semi-tone! She never sings anything in the 7th octave, however. The astounding thing is how loudly she can sing in the 5th and 6th octaves. Even just hearing her on your PC hooked up to your stereo she can startle you with the incredible emotion and amplitude of her voice. She can pull her chest voice--not her head voice--well into the 5th octave! I don't know of any other woman who can sing like Sohyang. She says sometimes when she sings in the 6th octave that the sound reverberates so strongly in her head that it actually hurts. People who have been at one of her concerts say it is impossible to convey the emotion and resonance of her voice. People are regularly moved to tears by her singing. And all of this from a tiny woman who is only 5 feet 4 inches, and 100 pounds! Many, many people are now concluding that Sohyang is the finest female singer on the planet. And she refuses to sign any contracts with the BIG music corporations, having turned down Sony Music US (the 2nd largest music corporation in the world!) in October 2020. She believes it would ruin her spiritually and she much prefers to maintain her relationship with God to becoming ultra rich and ultra famous. We are all ultra nuts about her! 😉👌💘😎😂🎸
