18:57 The green names and board mean the place is accessible via a highway. Jesenice are mentioned as they are the largest city and the final destination of that highway.
If you see a place name on a sign and it's in green instead of yellow, it means where the highway will take you, usually to the biggest city/town in another region. For example, Maribor is in the northeast, Jesenice is in the northwest, Ljubljana is in the center, and so on. Basically, if you find a sign in yellow and another one in green, you're probably in between these two places (usually closer to the yellow sign). Hope that helps.
A little tip for smaller towns. A lot of smaller places have volunteer firefighting departments (our country practically runs on the volunteer firefighters when it comes to emergencies). If you see a building with a sign on it that says "PGD" this stands for "volunteer fire company". And it is followed by the place name where it is located. So you know you are in a town if you see a building that has "PGD Town name" written on it :) As for the town names. Yea its nice to see you try and pronounce it. You are doing great, but if you want some tips regarding the special characters. Č - closest pronounciation is CH in english. Think Chuck Norris Š - is pronounced as SCH like in schindler's list Ž - Is probably the most difficult as it doesnt really have an english counterpart. Closest would be the J from the french name Jean like Jean-Claude Van Damme Other than that our language is pretty much "Pronounce as it is written" and you are correnct 90% of the time. Sure there are dialects that ignore that rule, but generally you cant be wrong if you pronounce every letter in the word. Issues english speakers have is that we pronounce various letters differently. I in slovene is pronounced as the english E and so on. But still good on you for trying.
thank you for doing slovenia again. your last vid blew up for a reason. it's one of the most beautiful and best countries and we are grateful you took your time to get a 5K :)
Bro actually pronounced "Črnuče" perfectly. I wish i could hear him pronounce some of the southern or far eastern small towns. That sht is hard to pronounce even as a Slovenian.😂
13:30 I was just screaming at the screen when you were cursoring all around Stara Fužina and not seeing it lol, but that's just GeoGuessr I guess, you did great. Nice pronunciations, as well!
I live in a smaller village but you were near my city. Your pronounciations were actually pretty good here and there. Very cool. Little hint for you if you see a š you pronounce it like sh, č is ch and ž is like zh (For example azure. Practice the z pronounciation in it. Its basically identical) Hope it helps and glad you love my country!
At 12:40 you looked at the wrong sign, the upper one saying is "Triglavski narodni park" and you had it couple more cm´s above your mouse when you were looking at the map, but you found it eventualy :) Video popped up on my YT randomly and i liked it, keep going man. Btw Triglav is highest mountian in slovenia, already part of alps.
as a Slovenian i enjoy see these videos and i don't mind that you mispronaunce names atleast your trying and to be honest your pretty close with the names
Love these videos, your pronunciation is getting much better! Sadly I haven't seen my city yet, it's the Easternmost city in Slovenia (Lendava). You should definitely make another Slovenia video 😉
Pronounciations (Kinda): All c's are pronounced as the beggining of the word tsunami (ts=c) Ž's are pronounced as the end of the word Asia (/ˈeɪʒə/) Kostanjevica na Krki [Coa-stan-ye-veetsa na Krk-ee] Krško [Kr-schko] Brežice [Bre-jeai-tse] Ojstrica [Oy-stree-tsa] Ribnica [Reeb-nee-tsa] Ljubljana [Lyoo-blyah-nah] Črnuče was spot on! [Chr-nuch-e] Vodice [Voo-dee-tse] Duplica [Doo-plee-tsa] Gameljne [Ga-me-lyneh] Šk. Loka (Škofja Loka) [Sch-kof-lya Lou-ka] Honorable mention: Kajak kanu (Kayak canoe) [Kah-yack Can-ue]
Good job :3 Your vowels still sound english (I can't help you with vowels they are the one thing i am bad at), but your pronounciations are way improved, just the same c =/= k, c = ts/cee! Soooo Ribnica, is reeb nee tsa, the rib part of the name is derived from riba(fish) and -nica is a suffix(hard to explain) so Ribnica means fishing rod/fish pond. So some name meanings this time. Mesto means place/town, and Novo is new, so novo mesto is new town! (becuase the old one burned down). Stara on the other hand menas old! Breg means hill (klanec also means hill), so you can see that often as a name because we are a hilly place, so some klanec/breg places also have an aditional "pri X" pri meaning "by/next to x" with x being a bigger more recognisable place usually.
You're getting better. Here's some tips for pronouncination: -all the ''j''s sound the same as the J in the German word ''Ja'' -the ''r'' sound is sharper than in English -the ''o'' sound is like it ends in the middle of making it I hope that's not too confusing, it's hard to explain.
Wow! I can't believe you got Bohinj. That's like 20-30 minutes away from where I live. And yes it's super touristy. The whole municipality. It's all about pristine nature in this region. You just ended up in more of a back alley area unfortunately. Edit: Oh and don't worry about the pronunciation. it's very difficult for someone who is not versed in Slavic languages. You did pretty ok tho :)
As an Slovenian im really enjoing this video so thanks and im impresed that u pronounces some city names correctly like Črnuče and yeah i tried Štruklje many times!
hi i love that you made a sequel video! about the Ljubljana pronounciation you actually DO pronounce the j’s but theyre in a “y” type. Ljubljana without the j’s (Lublana) is more of a slang pronounciation
Slovenia is so small that we have signs for towns and city's that are half the country away, on the outskirts of Ljubljana. I get why you got so confused. Every Slovenian immediately recognized that you were on the outskirts of Ljubljana, under Šmarna gora, because every Slovenian has been on Šmarna gora at least once. (Šmarna gora is a small mountain/hill)
Damn man. First time You went right by my house. Now You went to Črnuče where I use to live and also checked where I went for summer vacations as a kid. Are You stalking me?
highway signs can be really useful in Slovenia but they are sometimes misleading because they show place names of the biggert places eaven if they are really far away for example you can finds signs that say Ljubljana all over the country because it just tells you that the highway goes towards Ljubljana not that you are near Ljubljana love from Slovenia (also Strunjan is a really beautiful beach, one of the nicer ones)
1:50 "Alright welcome in everyone" and there is "Dobrodošli!" on a sign which means welcome, perfect timing
You said Črnuče the right way, it really surprised me! Big props to you trying to learn our complex language.

as a slovenian i love you trying to say the names of the cities in slovene
Lublana is my favorite at the start of the video 😂
Prmejdunej, da je res tako! 😊
He honestly hit "Črnuče" priti good
FR
I would say it's pronounced lyublyana

17:10 “i have no idea how to say that…” Proceeds to pronounce it perfectly 😅
Welcome back to the show:How do they do it.
