Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid's Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. this show is traumatizing. but man, i loved alexis bledel's subtle acting in here.

How on earth did these religious group take over the white house?
This is set in the future. So watching it is an odd mixture of feeling like you're in the past, with shocks of the present (like speech, etc)
The film doesn't go into it much, except that it was taken slowly at first through new legislation, and then by force. (if I understand it correctly) I think it probably goes into it more in depth in the books. But more and more is revealed at the episodes continue.
FGM is quite common in other countries as well as Egypt and Europe! I'm a huge ANTI- FGM advocate (for stopping/raising awareness/education ) since I found out what it was in 2001 I've been a big advocate for spreading awareness about it and stopping/prosecution for it!!!! 💚💜
Male Genitalia Mutilation needs to stop as well!! No child, male or female, should have their genitals surgically changed for non medically necessary reasons ever! If they want their genitals changed as an adult let the person make that decision as an adult. Again, religion is the root cause of all of this. Religion is the scourge of the Earth.

But because we had switched POVs at that point to another handmaid, I felt like it was justified in that moment, especially given what had just happened to her.” Then Morano and her editor, Wendy Hallam Martin, “put in jump cuts so that I could get to the different stages of her realization,” says Morano, “like the denial, the realization, the fear, and then finally the anger and the rage.”
The cinematography and direction in this scene are brilliant. The sterile white background, with Alexis in white really makes you focus on her face and the horror as she becomes aware of what happened to her. Masterful

The hospital scene (not in the book) is horrifying enough, but the truly terrifying scene for me is the courtroom scene. Every American should be aghast at what happened, and determined not to EVER let it happen.
The courtroom scene is exactly what happens in Islamic countries under SHARIA LAW where the legal punishment for homosexuality is death.

Bucinka8 Sharia Law courts require the testimony of at least 4 men in order for a woman to be disavowed of adultry charges, which includes being a rape victim. So yes, because of that ridiculous requirement, women are essentially gagged and silenced in Sharia law courts by their male counterparts.

"A great deal of philanthropy and charity is the process of determining how much of someone else's problems may also be yours". Meaning we give, fight, and care for issues that we can effectively internalize as an issue that could effect us. I feel for women who undergo that madness. My wife and I have left our children's bodies unmodified. Given guidance and a proper upbringing they will be able to decide what needs to be pierced, cut, or removed😉.

I can see the appeal of that procedure, but what Gilead should know is that the procedure causes problems for women's ability to gestate children. So, it's not really worth the trouble.

one of my biggest nightmares o.O certain things just shouldn't become watchable...
Female genital mutilation is a very real & very common practice in ISLAM. So many things in this movie are a direct parallel to Islam and Sharia Law: female genital mutilation, prosecution & execution of homosexuals, women not allowed to work or own property and forced to be cover up in public. The original author who wrote the original book based it on the Islamic Revolution in Iran during the 70's.

If you have to consistently go out of your way to try to convince people that your religion is "the religion of peace" then more than likely the opposite is true. No other religion in the world does or makes as much worldwide trouble, problems, and havoc as Islam does. Not Christians, not Catholics, not Buddhist, not Hindus, not even the Jews. I don't see any other religion in this world performing random acts of public murder in the name of their God, only Islam.

I am telling you this story so you realize it is a kind of activity not really dependent on any particular religion or culture or era but a sick mindset that manages power the way a banker manages money. The Church's reason? The Family goes to Heaven with the man riding on his ticket - without which they are denied Heaven. If he repents he is “saved”. And that alone counts. His is their salvation. That's the Theory, anyway. And this thing goes on in the USA today.
