    Apologies for the occasional pixelation. As with all my videos, this was filmed with an iPhone 7. A lot of my earlier videos had this issue. I'm happy to say, my videos no longer have this - although still filmed on an iPhone! :)

      Welcome new subscriber! It's quite an old video that one (in RUclips terms!) but I'm pleased you could forgive the picture-freeze and dodgy camera work. I'm still waiting for mine to spike this season - the hot weather this year has set them back a bit and caused some black spotting on the leaves. 😫

      Thanks very much! Yeah the scent is something I wasn't expecting. Everyone raves about Sharry Baby but my Twinkle Cinnamon was way more powerful - filled the greenhouse! I've recently mounted it so fingers crossed it thrives on the mount too.

    Twinkles are very prone to leaf spotting and dark patches especially on older leaves, I wonder if that's not what your darker spots are there rather than burning? Similar leaf spotting to the sharry baby- it's been researched in the sharry baby and positively correlated to higher temps, higher temps- more brown leaf spotting. Since the sharry baby and twinkles share the sotoanum as a parent I'm suspecting it comes from that, but my sotoanum itself never gets them 🤔🤷‍♀️ Great video and beautiful twinkles 😊🌸

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 года назад

      Thanks Annabel - my Sharry Baby tends to get black leaf tips which I've cut away - only for them to return, but curiously only during the growing season which would lead me to think it was heat/sun. I have somewhat limited experience with both plants, though! The blooms and fragrance are so good I can put up with it, and to be honest there are only a very few spots on the Twinkle. In the midst of summer its practically impossible for me to keep the greenhouse below 30° without reducing light too much or installing an air conditioner, so I guess I'm stuck with spots. Thanks for the insight, I really appreciate it.🤔👏

      I own a twinkle in white/yellow and since moving it has been slowly getting more spots. It is in my living room, semi shaded spot. I hope it gets better in Spring :(

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 года назад

      ATonk sounds like it could be the higher temperatures associated with a living room as the cause of the increased spotting.

    I, too, have a rather disappointing sharry baby. She is a monster in size, so she takes up a lot of space and offers little fragrance. She does shine, however, when it comes to flower display. I’ll keep trying for a cinnamon twinkle. So far I’ve struck out in finding one. Thank you for your interesting video.

    Can you tell what's the most fragrant little flower oncidium varieties?

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 года назад

      I can't unfortunately, Lily, as I only have the one twinkle. My Cinnamon Twinkle is hugely fragrant to me, but anything to do with scent tends to be a very personal thing anyway to be honest. Everyone told me the Sharry Baby would fill the greenhouse with scent - it didn't, at least, not to my nose it didn't.

      Thanks Steven. I ordered it from my phone, off the Ebay app, and had no idea it would be from Thailand until the delivery date of about 6 weeks came through. So no, I did nothing regarding importing papers or certificates etc. I must confess, I haven't looked into the legalities of this - I assumed (probably wrongly) that was Ebay's problem, but I wouldn't order from abroad again anyway - just too risky.

    Very interesting about fertilizer. My husband keeps telling me that fertilizer is the enemy and to be very careful how much and how often I feed my orchids. I argue that youtubers advise regular feeding and strong fertilizer. He maintains i could easily kill them over feeding ... Shall i tell him he was right 🤔

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 года назад

      Haha! I can't even remember what I said - I think I've made about a 100 videos since that one! I know what you mean about many RUclipsrs focusing on fertiliser - but nearly everything I've researched into fertilising orchids - from reputable 'commercial' growers, the American Orchid Society, various universities and so on, and I still come back to the same story that they're not heavy feeders and it's easier to over-feed than to under-feed. Personally, I use 'Rain Mix' and flush regularly. Every so often I might chuck in a bit of calcium or magnesium, but I only do that just in case I'm wrong and the other RUclipsrs are right! It's called 'hedging your bets'! 😂 I don't obsess over it though, and would rather skip the feed altogether if I don't have time. The orchids don't seem to mind so far. I did quite a long discussion about feeding when I first started YouTubing - go to this link: ruclips.net/video/LcjVnbjHEhE/видео.html It'll take you straight to the part of the video that talks about the 'top 7' things a very accomplished orchid grower says you should focus on. Watch to around 36:00. The video isn't great visually (I was new to this!) but the discussion still pretty much summarises my thoughts on feeding. Good luck!

    I have just taken a delivery of Twinkle Pink, looks like it has not got long left on the flowering. What should I do when it has dropped the flowers? Thanks

    • @Grow_Up_Man55
      @Grow_Up_Man55  4 года назад +1

      Hi Jeff. Cut the spike off once the blooms have dropped. If the plant hasn't outgrown the pot, and the media is still viable (i.e. it hasn't broken down) then there is no need to do anything with it regarding re-potting. If you need to however, then use a mixture of bark and sphagnum (the actual proportions will differ depending on your environment) or you could mount it (I mounted mine). But wait until the new growth is beginning to develop on the latest pseudobulb to bloom before you do it. Hope that helps. :)

      Thanks - it's an old video! I don't know the exact parentage other than Oncidium cheirophorum (seed parent) x Oncidium sotoanum (pollen parent). What proportions though is anyone's guess, and of course it might be a twinkle crossed with something else - sorry I can't help any further with that.
