When I tell you my jaw dropped at the end. I was dang impressed. But also this signifies the moment you think it went wrong might be where it all goes right.
Josh Gad literally did have 15 years of effort. Fun fact: in the world of high school forensics (speech and debate competitions) guy's a legend. He is a former national champion. That level of youth-success with his work ethic? Great to see him find his way!
I did speech and debate on high school That shit is TOUGH and there is a LOT of talent. A lot of people in high school are just in their element for that.
Let me tell you from experience, when you get your first call back and you walk in and see the director and half a dozen producers, it's VERY nerve wracking. I don't blame him for trying to break the ice at all. First audition is usually, you, reader and camera..so when you show up again and have to do it in front a ton of ppl, it's intense.
He truly is a good person I strongly feel that just by his energy I've watched him for the past 12 years I have so much respect for his work ethic and for his success it truly is an incredible actor
In 4.5 minutes the director knew the talent already on stage. He saw so much to work with. I think the director wanted to see if Josh Gad felt lucky or actually determined to be there.
Great story and all... but does that mean they hired him after seeing only four and and half minutes of what he could do? Didn't seem like he continued the audition after he was interrupted. Standing up for his work ethic probably impressed them, but you don't hire someone based on that kind of stuff only...
Mon Mothma He also had a resume, he showed his comic chops and intensity. Barfee is both of those things in spades. When you do casting so much of it is instinct, picking up on someone’s essence. I guarantee you that director did not go around saying that to everyone who auditioned. That 4.5 minutes must have be plenty. Sometimes when we see someone audition, do an incredible job, it makes you question why they don’t get more gigs. He was answering the doubts, giving the guy a chance to show who he was. He did.
Acting sounds a lot like government contracting. I've applied for jobs that I thought they'd be begging me to take and I don't even get an interview. Meanwhile, I apply for jobs I didn't think I had a snowballs chance in hell of getting an interview for and I get the job. The world is a strange place.
Hold on, are we to understand that he hadn't yet seen the production? What we know from the clip is that he heard of the show's existence through word of mouth alone, and then, after being offered free tickets, scoffed at the idea of seeing it? He had resigned himself to his failure as an actor, announced his plans to go back to school, had congratulated another guy who was auditioning on his presumed success, and was in the midst of packing....and it was then he learned he had been successful. Yeah, I'm with the director - I too have to question his commitment.
jesus christ you interview a loooooottta white people. like seriously, even if the current vibe wasn't poppin... that's a lotta white folks. all talented folks, very interesting but damn.
"Rich people" why do I sense a certain amount of envy coming through that statement. Josh made his fame himself, people need to understand it. He's not rich 'cause he was born rich. He was a pretty normal person who happened to go great in life. Try to divide the "rich people that were born rich" from the "rich people who actually had to bust their asses to be where they are right now"...thank you.
i am as dead as the meme on my pfp But people who are born rich you can’t be mad at. They didn’t choose to be born into a wealthy family. They simply won the lottery that is life. It’s not fair and it’s not right but it’s reality.
I just think that in America we have a lot of possiblity. Mostly we don't hate Rich people. If anything we want to be Rich. The American people are glass half full people. Josh is a prime example of this. Keep fightin'!
That took balls of steel to be so blunt with the director. He was testing Josh the whole time.
Now imagine being the dude who was told he got the part only to hear that the guy that broke the news to him got it instead.
Dude probably told his gf and his family then he just looked like a liar.
I had the same thought
You just hope he is not the sort to have a hate list. Because you just got onto the top of that list.
Wonder who that was
Lmao I’m sure he could tell josh just said it cause thought he bombed not like a serious offer
When I tell you my jaw dropped at the end. I was dang impressed. But also this signifies the moment you think it went wrong might be where it all goes right.
That's a great perspective!
Loved this story. No regrets either way if you’re genuine to yourself
Josh had me hanging on his every word. Everyone has been in this type of vulnerable position.
What a wonderful mother. You are so blessed to have such a supportive mother.
This story is even crazier when you realize that show's director was the LEGENDARY James Lapine. Josh Gad has BALLS to stand up to him like that!
Mad respect for Josh after watching this. Incredibly underrated.

What did he compete in? Im guessing Improv?
@@NairAthul Original Oratory!!! An "OG" event and one of the most high profile at NFL/NSDA nationals.

Amazing story, seems like it would fit in a movie in itself.
This was fantastic. You can tell he's told the story once or twice, because that was masterful.
This reinvigorated my passion for the craft. Incredible story on perseverance and love. Thank you Sam
You ain't got the job until the show wraps and you're at the after party.
That's the damn truth.
Words to live by
A great insight into what it’s like to be an actor.
why did that last line make me cry, my heart
Have you worked out why yet Soani?
Acceptance/belonging ... Having people let you in and tell you that you belong resolves one of the deepest human fears
I saw a high school put on the play he's referring to, it's one of the most unique productions I've ever seen.
I had the absolute pleasure to be in it and it was one of the best experiences of my life
Love that the role was a career maker for 2 guys.
He truly is a good person I strongly feel that just by his energy I've watched him for the past 12 years I have so much respect for his work ethic and for his success it truly is an incredible actor
That must of been a stellar 4.5 minutes! When your Josh Gad’s director or girlfriend, that’s all you need to be satisfied!
That is one very funny dude ...
You need someone like this on any film set
In 4.5 minutes the director knew the talent already on stage. He saw so much to work with. I think the director wanted to see if Josh Gad felt lucky or actually determined to be there.
We saw Josh in this off Broadway, and we even spoke to him briefly outside during intermission! Now look at him!
That’s one of the best audition stories ever.✨
Wow. What an amazing story. Josh Gad is freakin awesome.
I like this guy; don't know why, he gives good vibes
This was an AWESOME story!!
Dang, wish I was that confident to tell that to my director
Loved this story! He's such a good storyteller, most actors are :)
omg! i almost cried at the end of this.

That is such an awesome story. That's how "Putnum" happened.
Man, dudes one of his own biggest fans but Kudos again to TOCS BW for making him look the best he ever has! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You have an awesome mom and after hearing your story it's obvious why she shamed you into persevering, she knew had the goods.

Love his story about Mum. 15 years preparing and only 3 trying...
Damn. I always used to get confused between him and Dan Fogler.
Eye Watering!

WOW. HOLY. WOW.
Is this the guy that's on BangBros?
I know most people here are probably floored by that story but I’m just so taken away by that story telling
What’s the secret to a secret link? It doesn’t work (error 404):/

Who's Nephew is this?
WHO THA F*** IS THAT GUY??
Sam Jones sounds like Sarah McLachlan in those sad dog ads when he's begging for subscribers at the end of these videos.
Jonah hill ate so this guy could eat
Like a Jew needs to audition lol

He needs to drop some weight.

It's so many people getting infected and dying, it's so nice to see and hear about stories from rich people.
... It's a celebrity interview show. Why watch it if that's not what you want to watch? Seems dumb to me.
"Rich people" why do I sense a certain amount of envy coming through that statement. Josh made his fame himself, people need to understand it. He's not rich 'cause he was born rich.
