I scored 10 one GALLON jugs of the liquid hand sanitizer. It burns almost or as good as denatured alcohol. I passed on several 5 gallon buckets. Large corporation had been providing it to first responders but the market became saturated and they were giving it away to get it out of storage.
one ounce of hand sanitizer with two pinches of cheap table salt mix and then run thru a coffee filter works well as a fuel gives you about 10 minutes of burn time.
SOOT alert. They all will burn, but check the alcohol percentages. Higher % is cleaner, lower is lots of soot and black smoke. Just sayin'. I stick with Heet or 91% rubbing alcohol (Walmart). This would be my last option. The gel is excellent at firing up pellets, but again, higher %.
Will have to try one day. The different hand sanitizers have different amounts of alcohol percentages in them. I would think there would be a change in how long it would take to boil something with each.
Other piece of knowledge by carrying a piece of plastic with you on your trips out in the wild. What I'm saying is that, with the climate troubles, if you lite a piece of plastic as plastic burns in any weather and can save your life even if you are wet through clothing. And lite a fire using a bottle of water by letting the sun rays to magnify it's light spot on to dry tinder or on any dry grass or just get a striker kit in this video by oldredcoonhound or carry a magnifying glass. Rain storms, gales, heavy snowfall or just keep wild animals away. The first day of the spring or a few days in autumn or a summer break at the beach or at the cabin. Love mum

I was wondering about this fuel stuff. I can pick half bottles for 10 pence or in US it's 15 cents and the size you have there it's 50 pence or in US 70 cents a bottle and the bigger size of a pint 20 fl oz would be £1 pounds sterling now or even lower or $1:25c for 20 fl oz. You could say free extra fuel for it's price and it is between 70% to 90% proof and lifeboy products are 61% in Britain.

my bad a 1/4 teaspoon of salt instead of two pinches
Great idea for cheap clean fuel, thanks!
BTW, you are the only one who pronounces trangia correctly ~ its a hard "g", not soft...
Does the salt make a big enough difference?
@@jjjones9932 thanks, didn't know that.
It is actually a Trangia knock off.... it has the flame adjuster cap lying in the background.

Thanks for the info. I'll definitely keep that in mind!
Tran jee ah.
With the emphasis on TRAN jee AH
I didn't see it bloom nor did you say what residue was left in it after it burned.
Use liquid sanitizer instead of gel, then it will bloom also. The gel is not safe to burn as you do not know what gases it outputs.
that's a pretty blue flame you got there
What about sooting?
Blue flame = less soot. Yellow flame = more soot.
what a clever hack! How much gel would it take to boil a small camping kettle and how long does that stuff burn?

YOU Bet ,a good use for that crap
what percentage are you working with?
I believe it was around 72%

I would always use outdoors or in well ventilated areas
doesn't the perfume smell of the hand sanitizer go into the food?
Not perfume scented. Food would be cooked in cup or container
Just wear a has mat suit and your kind will be just fine. Or just stay home in your safe space
What about diesel?
The general advice is to avoid using petroleum products in an alcohol stove. The fuel doesn't behave the same way and can be dangerous.
@@annej5699 my guess it won't even work. Diesel or petroleum stoves are using a wick for a reason.
