- Travel with me to Bear Canyon and Seven Falls in the Santa Catalina Mountains near Tucson, Arizona. The canyon here fills with water during the rainy seasons and becomes lush with greenery and wildlife during the monsoon months. Javelina, coyote, bobcat, mule deer, mountain lions, desert tortoise, canyon tree frogs, and a variety of lizards, snakes, and birds make their home here. Colorful wildflowers, wetland grasses, and shady trees, including cottonwood, walnut, sycamore, willow, and ash grow in a ribbon along the flowing water's banks. The sandy bottom of the canyon beneath the surface of the water is scattered with smooth gray gneiss rock. The series of seven waterfalls at the end of the 4 mile hike (8 miles roundtrip) offer a great place to relax, picnic, and cool off from the heat.
My trip to Bear Canyon and Seven Falls in the video took place in the morning of Friday, September 13, 2013.

Hiked all over this area back in the 70s & 80s I so love the mountains and desert. Body to broken to partake anymore. But I have some wonderful memories. Sleeping out alone in the desert does the body & soul wonders. Thanks for the video.oh my first time in sabino 1970 in my hippi VW bus happy days.
Born in Tucson, my family has a street named for us. My folks had a place further north east of Vail, but against the mountains. Very similar to 7 falls. I saw the peice my mom had up for sale...1.5 million? Wow! We moved further out and northeast as the crow flies.
Thanks for being respectful of our home. Good job
While I sit here looking at your video I realize that Tucson is the reason I always have to live near mountains. There were no fees when I was a kid. It never occurred to us or our parents that there were mountain lions in the canyon. We slept at Hutch's pool on a sandy area near a big sort of over hanging rock around a camp fire in the open. Never a tent! OMG! That was 50 years ago!
Years back I was camping with friends at Hutch's pool when we heard what sounded like a mountain lion roaring. We were actually excited about it because we knew that the chance of an attack on a group of people around a campfire was nil. It turned out it was another group of campers mimicking a roar to try and scare us.
Thank you - GREAT VIDEO and you are a most pleasant yet informative speaker in presenting info !!!
Excellent video! I have hiked the canyon more times than I can count and your video brought back a lot of fond memories.
Good video. Looks like a great place to paint.
Thank you great video ! Lived near sabino for 14 years - it’s tranquil and beautiful although busy these days! Best time is when there is water in the streams and new foliage 🏔
So beautiful
I live about 8 miles from Sabino Canyon and have only visited there a couple of times. Now, Feb. 2016, would be a very nice time to visit due to the unseasonably warm weather and hiking conditions. Thanks for a nicely done, informative video.....
+Scrappycat1966 Thanks for watching! Definitely a good time to go if you haven't already!
Sabino is one of my favorite places in AZ. Never been to Bear Canyon. Now I will! Thx!
I live in tucson been there several times thanks for sharing
Beautiful area.
I use to hike there all the time back in the 80's. no charge for parking back then. It is always a good idea to carry a weapon when you hike there to defend yourself from some of the wildlife. Better safe than dead
Mountain lions aren't a thing to mess with
fast wheels I’ve hiked up and past Seven Falls all the way up to Prison Camp starting in the mid 80’s and have been up there at least 200+ times....Never saw one mountain lion even at a distance. There’s really not much wildlife up there I mean you barely see birds hiking up to Seven Falls....There’s zero reason to carry a weapon up there.
Awesome.. Just did it this past Friday.
Great vid! Thanks heaps for this.
Simply beautiful! 🌵❤

ha! im austin "smith"! gonna take this as a sign, many thanks. Thought your channel name said wanderlust wis(something didnt show the rest and now it just say wanderlust but was guessing wisconsin where i am living now but def moving before next winter looks like it might be AZ!)
wow mountain lion watching you.
Nice ,thank you
It is a wonderful hike but be prepared to fjord the stream several times along the trail. That is why I wear a lighter shoe that can be removed and rinsed out with out damage. I like a shoe with stretch fabric upper and vibrant sole.
Great video very informative going next weekend 👍
+iPreferMyEyesLow Thank you! Enjoy your visit!
Mountain Lion . Ba ! Ha ! Ha ! Kitty . Kitty. If your armed . I guess.
There are also 8-14 days of Spring rains. The historic rainfall in Tucson was the week before Christmas, gentle and light, Springtime, and Monsoon. 3 times per year, not 2.
The Sonoran Desert is defined by its bimodal rain pattern. That means two rainy seasons. That was direct from Dr. James Brown in our Ecology 235 class in the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Department.
Is there water flowing now
Moveing as soon as I can sell my house I Cal
Seven falls is a pain to get to
Coues deer/Arizona white-tailed deer
I was hoping you would not use the incorrect term "Monsoon Season" since Monsoon means "Seasonal wind shift" Monsoon season is Redundant
could you swim in the water ?
+Anh Do depends on the time of the year, the water is usually pretty low if it is not winter or summer(monsoon) season, you wouldn't really want to swim in winter as it is mostly snow melt, but durring the summer there are some great pools to swim in. Just need to be careful of flash floods.
Collin Maguire thanks alot
