If you don’t mind, since you have covered the U2 in this video could you please cover the U8 soon. If not, then the other insect enemy (forgot their name) next
@@RoanokeGaming oh man I would love to see a video comparing the two, I would put money in the vertigo though, 800 elephants is a lot of weight on something.
@@RoanokeGaming you simply must I will donate 20 bucks on the first steam I see you on and yes this is attempted bribery I’m a huge fan of bug monsters so sue me
Easily my favourite monster from RE4. There's something so utterly badass about this Xenomorph-Predator looking dude just mauling you to death with it's claws, but then, as if it suddenly showed signs of sentience, waving it's finger "no" when you try to shoot it normally. It's like it has fun doing this, being an executioner. It has so much personality while having such an awesome design. I was so happy to see it get more lore and an actual origin for both of them, Pesanta and Verdugo. I loved how they connected it to the Novistadors, both being arthropod-like abominations. Loved playing against it and being terrified in the PS2, will probably love playing against it and being terrified in the Remake.
The personality and sass in Tyrant like creatures in Resident Evil is nothing new, even a Tyrant as early as Mr X enjoys playing with his targets. You have to remember, these bioweapons are living organisms with a surprisingly high amount of sentience, not just flat and cold killing machines like a terminator
The Way the Verdugo stalks and tracks you through the lab, plus the way it can literally taunt you to come and try again and again, makes it clear that the monster retains some of its human intelligence and personality across its transformation., like he's really enjoying chasing you around and having some fun before he ends things. Though I guess he enjoyed the liquid nitrogen dousing a lot less. Speaking of the liquid nitrogen I appreciate in the remake you trigger it as like a shower effect rather than just tipping over those massive canisters while Leon continues to stand RIGHT beside them. Dude would have been frozen himself in an instant. xD
@@detroitshinobi4995 I think they make more sense from a practical and safety standpoint. Like I said, in the original they appear in the fight as these huge canisters that Leon tips over, and then the valve comes off and they spin around, spraying liquid nitrogen everywhere while Leon IS STILL STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO IT. He should really be frozen like a popsicle on the spot with that kind of safety precaution. The overhead showers can still damage and freeze you if you get caught in them, but it shows that there's less risk of being frozen instantly on the spot.
Did you read the notes around the castle? The designations have changed in the remake. U-II now refers to the Novistadors, which are said to be foetuses mutated by the black liquid. U-III are the Verdugo. One of them is the Maid and Caretaker of Salazar, who volunteered herself for the experiment. The other is the guy who came up with the procedure, who then transformed himself willingly to be the perfect servant. There's also a mention of the guy's hound "Pesanta" who was allegedly chosen to be Ramon's right hand. Which is very confusing. Either there are three Verdugo, or one of these experiments went horribly wrong and we'll face the result as Ada in the DLC
U3 has been removed from the game to avoid calling it an ‘it’ which is offensive to the trans community. So they cut it out of the game to avoid having to gender it which is also offensive
Ummm... You're misunderstanding something. Pesanta IS U-III which is the maid who is also the caretaker of Salazar. The guy who came up with the whole procedure IS Verdugo! Verdugo is Uriarte aka U-I since the U designation derive from his family name.
The Verdugo is how I'd imagine a mix between Thyranids and humans in Warhammer 40k. If something like that exists outside the Genstealer cults. Great Design.
Pretty sure that's literally what Genestealers become after enough generations. The obvious problem being, this form wouldn't help them do the main thing they're supposed to do: Blend in until it's too late The problem with Genestealers in general is the fact Tyranid DNA is way too aggressive, so you end up with horrid hybrid monstrosities after very few generations, which obviously results in the Space Marines showing up and clearing them out violently
@@ericlamb4501 Stupidly enough, it was explained in the Genestealer Cults codex that the later generations are the more human ones rather than the less human ones. Somehow the first few generations are the really horrific, clearly alien ones and the later generations look essentially normal. I have no idea how that's the case logistically, but the idea is that once they get their hooks in they adapt to be better suited to their environment by becoming more and more human over time. So really the problem is when they get find out too soon, rather than them getting found out as the genes spread. As always lore in that universe is kinda all over the place and often contradictory, but that's how it's explained in what I've read.
@@ericlamb4501Nah, Genestealer cults are more insidious than that. They tend to stay off the radar for multiple generations, and the third generation are functionally indistinguishable from humans. By then they’ve fatally compromised the government and the military, and spent a century laying groundwork for an ultimate global uprising. Oh, and they have psychic mind control.
Heavy armor and active camoflage tend to be an either/or deal. You're either iron beetle levels of tanky, but as obvious as an SUV crashing through some poor sap's front door, Or you're the Octopus with only 1 HP but capable of making Batman and Houdini look like amateurs.
@@masterpiece8846 The notes on the creation of U-III are confusing, there are at least three subjects who were allegedly turned into U-III = A maid, a dog named "pesanta", and the creator Isidro Uriarte Talavera. So it's possible one of these experiments went wrong and are going to become what the OG refers to as "The U-III"
@@masterpiece8846 U-3 still. Notice how unlike the OG, we never fight the other Verdugo. It will probably mutate into the U-3 we know in the hypothetical Separate Ways campaign.
Why are you bulking up? Other Dudes: To gain way more confidence in their body and stay healthy and stuff Roanoke: Preparing for a potential T-Virus outbreak

Ever since I found your channel, I've wondered how potent chitin would be as a form of body armor. I'm pretty interested in transhumanism and alterations to the body via technology. I had no idea that Resident Evil explored these ideas in such depth. Nor that there is a bug that can withstand so much pressure! It is kinda nuts.
Well, you have to take into consideration a lot of facts. Mainly the fact that there is a constant arms race between weapons and armor, even in the world of insects, same as with us. We made armor, so we make weapons to pierce and break said armor. Better armor is made in response. So we end up making better weapons, which ultimately leads to guns. Metal armor basically becomes useless over time, and we ditch it for something that offers mobility and *MIGHT* save you from dying in a single shot. In response, training and ammo become deadlier. Now back to insects, considering they are literally born in suits of armor, you would think they're invincible right? Well, no. Insects and their parasites have evolved mouth parts like weapons _specifically_ designed to pierce other insects armor. For spiders, it's their fangs. Scorpions have claws and stingers. Ants have their mandibles. Chitin is as good an armor as a full suit of copper platemail, it's pretty much only good for keeping your insides together and offering a little resistance to small slow speed impacts, like walking against a cactus thorn or hitting a window accidentally at 1mph. Now, you could argue that's because insects are tiny, human size chitin plates would be incredibly strong right? Well yes, until someone invents something even bigger than .50 cal to fit into a handheld. No matter the armor, there is always going to be a way to break it, that's just how it works out. Also, something I want to mention: Insects that molt, or mainly crustaceans, expend a lot of energy and effort to do so. Having natural armor that grows with your body means you'll need to shed it every time you grow. This is literally what kills a lot of them, not being able to get out of their own old skin. Now imagine how much you need to eat, and the time it would take for you to have to do that every time you grow even an inch. And lastly, there's the fun part about gravity. Not just how that extra weight would be on your bones and muscles, but also how gravity minutely changes our height from morning to night, and how every night by laying down you're decompressing yourself, stretching back out to your true height.
I’m a huge fan of how Roanoke relates actual biological science into how movie and video game organisms would relate to reality. Big fan of the videos here!
To this day one of my favourite monsters from RE, it's such a cool design and the fact they still act like people in many ways (follow orders, taunt you, etc)
With your immaculate attention to detail, I hope one day that you do a video on the main man himself, Albert Wesker. It would really be interesting to see your morphological take on him. Logically the verdugo being more scary makes sense, but the regenerator still takes the cake for me, just an incredible design all round.
Dunno if it's mentioned in the game but I think that might be some kind of liquid they cooked up to make sure the Plagas doesn't end up just killing the host/ having it grow in properly
There’s the black fluid Salazar and Saddler spit and the game calls it acid, and then there’s the black liquid enemies dissolve into after death, the one they force Ashley to drink, and also the liquid in water hall. Can’t tell if it’s just the lighting but that water looks pitch black. Don’t know if it’s all the same stuff but I’m guessing some of it is Plaga formula that accelerates it’s growth and/or is a byproduct of Plaga growth
@@submerged7640 funny enough I was on this line of thinking when it comes to what the stuff actually is. A byproduct of a successful plaga implantation sounds pretty accurate. And yea that "water" was pitch black in the fountain room/hall
I *personally* don't like it all being 1 virus. i like the nightmarish thought that there are multiple types of microscopic creatures capable of monsterfying other living beings. Multiple viruses who's endpoint could be a resident evil game.
He is mistaken. The plagas was confirmed to be unrelated to the progenitor virus and same goes for the mold. They are all unrelated infections and the theory that they are all connected is based off of superficial similarities. There is no in game notes, dialogue, or lore that claims they are connected. But to be fair the next games writers could retcon anything into being canon. But I agree with you, they should remain unrelated. makes the world feel bigger and more interesting.
That was a mistake on his part. The only mention of Plagas sharing any sort of relation with the progenitor virus in the current canon is in the animated movie Resident Evil Vendetta which is pretty far in the timeline after RE6. The main villain of that one wanted to reset the world after having his life ruined so he wanted to make a virus that could both protect and easily spread using water so using his underworld connections, he found surviving samples of the T-Virus and mixed it with DNA of the original Plaga species that still existed from surviving members of Los Illuminados. This last point is kind of put into question since in the remake all of the survivors started to have violent seizures after Saddler died but they could probably retcon this to be a future Plaga species instead. Also to your last sentence, that is literally the plot of RE 6 since Neo Umbrella and The Family went “screw it” and just made a virus with traits of Tyrant, Golgotha, and Veronica all mushed together lol.
@matthewwilson2637 I thought Resident Evil 5 when Wesker created the Uroburos (if I even spelled that correctly lol) was some mish-mash of the T-virus and the Las Plagas.
@@TheBlargMarg Shockingly not! It is an actually an RNA Virus variant of the Progenitor Virus. Oroborus was made by using the DNA of Jill since she had the antibodies of the T-Virus within her and Albert kept experimenting with her DNA by mixing it with the Progenitor until it straight up became a new creature with it becoming massive in comparison to its original viral size and developing organs which are the glowing weak points we shoot. This stuff is all found in notes so I don’t blame you for not knowing lol
@@TheBlargMarg your close I can't remember tbh so I had to look it up it's a mix of T virus and Projenitor doesn't say anything about Las Plagas but tbh I wouldn't be surprised because would it be just a coincidence they show up now as Type 2 Plagas spreads through Africa and just the general look of Uroburos
*Hello, Roanoke and everyone who's reading this.* Maybe you've already talked about this subject, but what is, in your opinion, the most realistic depiction of "zombies" or infected or whatever you'd wanna call them, in media? Everyone is welcome to reply and share their opinion.
Possibly a mutated for of rabies? I’d say kuru, there are also supposedly brain parasites that can affect your mind, it’s been stated that reanimation is possible; I wonder if the 2 could be connected. Those are my guesses.
Dude your videos have been captivating me for years now. Maybe it's because I'm a nerd for both video games and biology, but I can't believe there's a whole ass channel on this platform that covers both of those topics in one. You're amazing
I absolutely love the verdugo and it's design, it really looks like a big human-scorpion hybrid with it's tail and you can see how the upper leg/ thigh area has aspects of the scorpion pinchers, specifically the larger pinchers on some species like the emperor scorpion
17:49 - The second I saw Roanoke talking about this and rhetorically asked the question of how it's so tough I *KNEW* (or at least hoped) this was where it was leading.
Never thought about the internals of the Verdugo being liquidated despite the shell being so strong it was intact for most of my fights with him. I will say theres still the chance he is blown away carapace and all if you freeze him and he takes enough damage, leaving nothing but ice shavings/snow behind.
Stuff like this makes me wonder if the reason why Jake 1) survives the free fall from the plane and 2) never have a scenario in game where he can die from infection. Like, is Jake technically a BOW???? He’s got the whole Progenitor thing from Albert Wesker, and they’re both incredibly strong, tall, and resilient (even before Albert mutates)
Ha you're welcome for the idea for tbe video, totally brought these guys up on your last re4r video...nah im just goofin', im sure these dudes have been asked about by literally everyone, but i am glad you decided to cover these guys, have always been curious about them.
In your video you had mentioned that a liger is much bigger than both of their parents because of the push at the same genetic information. I was watching this video with my sister and she paused the video to ask me if you were to bring back a Neanderthal and mate it with aHomosapien, would it be a giant?
Awesome video, I love these theoretical deep-dives on the biology of creatures. Quick note I think you slipped up on: The Housekeeper/Pesanta is the Black Robe, while Uriarte/Verdugo is the Red Robe. Isidro Uriarte Talavera was Salazar's lead scientist, who was tasked with creating human-insect hybrids. These were named "Novistador" by Salazar, meaning "Unseen", due to their ability to camoflauge. Uriarte, however, gave the Novistador the code designation "U-II", or "U-2", after his own name of Uriarte. Uriarte, thus, is "U-1", although he never refers to himself as such. The next step in Uriarte's experiments was on the Housekeeper, who had been with the Salazar family before Ramon came to power. She had made a promise to Ramon's parents that she would "keep the boy from wickedness", but felt she had failed as she watched him fall under the thumb of Saddler. Uriarte took the Housekeeper, and used her, as you say, as the "platform" for his hybrid experiments. It's not clear how long she was experimented on, but Uriarte expresses his frustration in a file, as the experiments keep running into dead ends. At some point, however, he is able to perfect the process, thus transforming the Housekeeper into the Black Robe, serving as Salazar's "Left Hand". Uriarte, pleased at the results, calls the now-transformed Housekeeper "Pesanta", meaning "hound". The Housekeeper, now called "The Black Robe" or "Pesanta", does not really engage with Leon much, and instead goes after Ada throughout the events of the incident. It infects Ada with a unique form of Plaga or related bacterium of some kind, allowing it to maintain some kind of telepathic connection with Ada, causing hallucinations, nausea, and confusion. Ada, with the help of Luis, is able to manufacture a suppressant for this ailment. Ada fights the Black Robe several times, and, once she causes sufficient damage to it by dropping a metal walkway on it, witnesses the Black Robe mutating into a secondary form. This form is, quite clearly, the "U-III" or "U-3", as re-imagined for the RE4 Remake. In the original, U-3 was a distinct entity, created from chimeric experiments from various creatures, if I recall correctly. In RE4R, we see that the Black Robe and U-3 are, in fact, the same entity, with the classic U-3 morphology only becoming clear when the creature mutates. This is seen with the large, scorpion-like tail, bloated lower body, exposed cerebral cortex, and the long tongue-like appendage extending from its mouth. As the next subsequent step in Uriarte's insect-human hybrid experiments, the Black Robe was the successor to the U-2/Novistador, and, is thus, U-3. Ada is able to dispatch the U-3, around the same time when Luis is killed by Krauser. Now, going back in time a little bit, we remember Uriarte himself. After the creation of The Black Robe/Pesanta/U-3, Uriarte finally decides that, he too, wants to become one of these creatures in order to attain "enlightenment". He subjects himself to a similar procedure as that which the Housekeeper underwent, and emerges as the self-proclaimed "Verdugo", meaning "Executioner". Thus, the lineage is as follows: Isidrio Uriarte Talavera is, effectively, "U-1", based on his middle name. He becomes The Verdugo, the last in the sequence. The Novistadors are known as U-2, as they were Uriarte's "progeny" in a sense, second to himself. Then, finally, the Housekeeper is subjected to the experiments of Uriarte, becoming the Black Robe/Pesanta/U-3, as the successor to the Novistador/U-2.
From what I've been reading on the internet, the explanation for the u-3 and Salazar's left hand not being present is because Ada confronts them during the separate ways dlc
Grass is a plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in a lawn and other places. Grass gets water from the roots in the ground. Grass is usually pigmented with the colour ‘green’. Grasses are monocotyledon, herbaceous plants. The grasses include the "grass", of the family Poaceae (also called Gramineae). Also sometimes it is used to include the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae). These three families are not closely related but belong to different clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style. The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others. Many grasses are short, but some grasses, like bamboo can grow very tall. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places, even if they are very cold or very dry. Several other plants that look similar but are not members of the grass family are also sometimes called grass; these include rushes, reeds, papyrus, and water chestnut. Grasses are an important food for many animals, like deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars, and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows. Without grass, dirt can wash away into rivers (erosion). Graminoids include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves). Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals.Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow. People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer. Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets. n English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example: "The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else." "Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something". "A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others. Grass is sometimes used as a slang term for cannabis (also called pot, weed, or marijuana) The Grass type (Japanese: くさタイプ Grass type) is one of the eighteen types. Prior to changes in Generation IV, all damaging Grass-type moves were special, but they may now also be physical depending on the attack. Grass-type Pokémon are immune to Leech Seed. Grass-type Pokémon are immune to Leech Seed Starting in Generation VI, Grass-type Pokémon are immune to powder and spore moves and Effect Spore.Grass types are tied with Rock in having the most weaknesses out of all types with five. Since Generation I, a particular asset of Grass types is being the only type that is immune to Leech Seed. As of Generation VI, Grass-type Pokémon are also immune to powder and spore moves, such as Sleep Powder and Stun Spore. Additionally, Grass Pokémon are the only ones affected by Rototiller and Flower Shield. Those moves raise both attack stats or the physical Defense stat, respectively, when used. Forest's Curse adds the Grass type to the target's types. Grass-type attacks are resisted by seven types, so they're tied with Bug as the most resisted type. Those resistant types are best covered by Rock and Ground. As of Generation VI, Dark and Ghost have neutral matchups against every type that resists Grass. When Grassy Terrain is in the effect, the power of Grass-type moves is increased by 30% (50% prior to Generation VIII) if the user is on the ground. Contest properties In contests, Grass-type moves are typically Clever moves, but can also be any of the other four contest conditions. As of Generation VIII, there are 112 Grass-type Pokémon or 12.27% of all Pokémon (counting those that are Grass-type in at least one of their forms), making it the third most common type after Normal and before Flying. A Pokémon with Protean or Libero will become a Grass-type Pokémon if it uses a Grass-type move. A Pokémon with Color Change, Imposter, Mimicry, RKS System, or Multitype will become a Grass-type Pokémon if (respectively) it is hit with a Grass-type move, is sent out against a Grass-type opponent, if the terrain is grassy, if it is holding a Grass Memory, or if it is holding a Meadow Plate or Grassium Z. Since Generation VI, Grass-type Pokémon are also immune to Effect Spore; Only Grass-type Pokémon can have these Abilities. This does not include signature Abilities.Due to the decreased amount of types in the TCG, Grass generally adopts all Bug-type Pokémon under its typing. It also adopted Poison-type Pokémon prior to the Diamond & Pearl set, after which they were moved to Psychic. Similar to the games, Grass-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Fire and resist Water. Grass-type Pokémon are strong against Fighting and Water Pokémon, whilst Metal Pokémon resisted it until the EX Power Keepers expansion set. Generation V introduced the most Grass-type Pokémon of any generation, with 21 (including Rotom's Mow form), and Generation VI introduced the fewest Grass-type Pokémon, with nine. Generation I introduced the most Grass-type moves of any generation, with 10, and Generation II introduced the fewest Grass-type moves, with three. The Grass type and/or Pokémon of the type have been referred to using the term "plant" instead on some occasions: In the English Generation I games, the Gym guide in Cerulean Gym refers to Pokémon of the Grass type as "plant Pokémon". In the English versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, he instead mentions "Grass-type Pokémon". In the Japanese versions of the Generation I games and FireRed and LeafGreen, he mentions the Grass type itself, calling it the "Plant type" (Japanese: しょくぶつタイプ). Another reference to "plant Pokémon" (Japanese: しょくぶつポケモン) is made by Professor Oak in the Japanese Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue, and international Pokémon Red and Blue, classifying Bulbasaur as such when the player is about to choose it as their starter. This is also the case in the Japanese versions of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen; in contrast, he calls it the "grass Pokémon" in the English versions. This same reference is also used in the first episode of Pokémon Origins. In multiple languages, such as French and German, the Grass type is translated as the Plant type. The Turkish dub of the anime occasionally refers to "Grass type" as "Plant type". The Grass type has the most Pokémon that evolve by Evolution stones, with a total of 11. It is also the type that can utilize the most stones, having at least one Pokémon that can evolve via the Leaf Stone, Sun Stone, Water Stone, and Shiny Stone. The Grass type is the only type to have more than one HP-draining move, having five of them. Grass-type attacks deal doubly super-effective damage to the most Pokémon of all types. Grass-type attacks are super effective against the three types that Fire types are weak to. Fire is the only type that hasn't been paired with Grass. In Tree's a Crowd, Brock states that Grass-type Pokémon resist Electric-type moves due to being able to diffuse the electricity into trees and the ground. He also explains that if Grass types are in the air, they cannot diffuse the electricity from Electric attacks, thereby dealing normally effective damage. Now that you have read this much about grass, maybe you should go and touch some...
4:59 Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that's spot on, it's dropped in a few games that basically everything does come from the same virus, it is just altered in every game by Umbrella trying to find that one ultimate strain to achieve whatever goal the main villain of said game wants to achieve. Hell in RE 8 Village they wrap the franchise completely on itself. So whether it be a turbo infectious zombie type virus that wasn't synthesized properly to ancient parasites that could carry the virus to mold infused with said virus, the Progenitor vVirus is in all of it. Now what would be cool is finding out that the Progenitor Virus is actually part of what created the possibility of life to begin with back when everything was just bacteria and viruses, and why it can basically infect everything. Odds are it won't be in a RE game, but could you imagine?
The second Verdugo became U-3. You can find the note telling you this in the Throne Room, you have to go back there before going to the Clock Tower to find it.
Same age. Been watching for years. Very enjoyable content. I love the movie summaries. Combine that with the science portion, and I basically get everything I want out of most of the movies. You typically let us know if we should still watch the movie, and I'll say you have good taste. Thanks man.
It’s always fun to see someone else deal with math. If you really want to see sparks fly just put a mathematician and a physicist in the same room and ask them about infinity, it’s amazing
I don’t know much about biology, but I have some formal education on physics, ballistics and the effects and applications of weapons and armor. If the armor of that thing was in fact chitin, it would have to be much much thicker to withstand an RPG (like measured in feet) or even a intermediate center fired rifle round. Whatever armor that thing has, it isn’t chitin. It would be some crazy wonder material of fantastic lightness and probably impossible density that would revolutionize material science more than biological science. Chitin has fixed mechanical properties inferior to steel, which RPGs are especially made to defeat. The only way for chitin to “scale up” is by increasing thickness to unusable bulk and weight or become something other than chitin because it’s a solid and solids can’t really be compressed. The square-cube law is pretty strict.
Roanoke what's good homie!!! Your my ace !! Love your content and narration always brother, so proud of you and so happy you have grown both channels to such heights! Your the MJ of this genre of content without a doubt !!
When i dont play RE4 for a long time i always dread fighting Verdugo, even tho i know its a fairly enjoyable fights. Its mainly the thought of going up against a tall, strong, and FAST opponent just frightens my lizard brain. Like to have a chance against such a monster you'll need the type of brutal and extensive training of like what leon went thur.
You should put the audio for this channel online as a podcast as well!! I understand that some videos heavily depend on a visual representation, but a lot of your content would make great podcast material 👌
Fun fact, Pulgarcito is the spanish name for the story of Tom Thumb. That said, Verdugo looks more lizardlike to me when its moving. i only saw the insect resemblance when you showed the still model. Also your math is the reason why "kill it with fire" is my motto when dealing with anything larger than a human in these games. I recently played the RE2 and 3 remakes, my very first time with the franchise. I tried Revelations 2, RE0 and RE1 but the controls were incredibly awkward with the camera angle for 0 and 1 and i got softlocked in Revelations 2. It was as though they were trying to brute force a 3D game into a top down one. The concept worked a little better in RE0 with the train but that mansion, man i got turned around enough I lost my patience and quit after only a couple of zombies because I got a headache trying to keep my path straight when the camera angle just kept changing. I've also been watching the RE4 remake streams by Oxhorn and the voice of Leon himself, Nick Apostilides. And its given me a pretty fascinating insight into the lore involving the RE universe. I know a lot of people go "oh shini its a videogame its meant to be a fantasy" or hate on art imitating life. But at its core Resident Evil is a story of the pitfalls of greed and pride, and in many cases white european greed and pride inflicting the sins of the father on sons and daughters who have to go shoot zombies to save the world because of how many sins were visited on them. In the case of RE4 and 8 you could argue that there's a theme of the old powers of europe being corrupting toxic douchebags who took what they wanted at the expense of the poorer people around them, and the theme of those powers still being present in the background waiting for their chance to revive the glory days. And if you start looking at the CGI movies, you can see this theme being taken even further but instead focused on the greed of American imperialism. So I've kind of got this headcanon that there was an ancient outbreak of the progenitor in Africa that nearly destroyed the human race forcing us to leave Africa and selecting for resistance to progenitor family viruses. But as humans multiplied and diversified those genes became spread out and diluted while the creatures mutated by the progenitor and the stairway of the sun flower stayed isolated in certain pockets of africa until around the age of sail when people started moving around more wildly. The indiginous cultures that lived in and around these pockets would have developed their own myths, legends and lifestyles involving preventing infection with these diseases and other organisms, which were then corrupted by European colonizers who wanted to enslave and control these peoples and turn them to good old fashioned monotheistic christendom. This eroded the protections put in place to contain these contagions further. There is a real life example of this happening with a real life disease and of white europeans fucking it all up; the Bantu. I am super oversimplifying this example but here goes. These were a loosely affiliated group of tribes with a lifestyle adapted primarily to avoid infection with Malaria. They agreed to keep the rivers and watersources in their area a neutral ground through which they could take their cattle and fish for food and draw water, and then at the end of the day they'd move away from the water to avoid the mosquitoes. The belgians moved in and settled the way europeans do, near the water. They began being absolutely shrecked by the waterborn tropical diseases they had no defense against, which made them too weak and tired to do any farming, building or industry and killed them off in droves. So the Belgians began kidnapping and enslaving the Bantu, who they saw as being untouched by these diseases to work for them instead of moving their chosen farmsteads. Instead of trying to adapt their way of life, they were so convinced they were superior even as they were laid low, that they repeatedly brought the Bantu into contact with malaria until suddenly it mutated to bypass their natural defenses, leaving the Bantu just as vulnerable to infection. Thanks to that, people in Africa now die in droves to Malaria regardless of skincolor, the only means to survival really being how much green they can make and how much protection they can afford. And because sickness means you stay home from work and make no money, but have to spend money on medical care, you end up stuck in the same economic station you've been in all your lives and your country doesn't advance. I believe this and the old biopriparat program, as well as other cold war and colonial era influences, are the principle inspirations for the more modern Resident Evil games and CGI movies. In the case of Resident Evil 4, I believe decaying power and royal pride are more of a motivating factor for Salazar joining the Illuminados, as he clearly has plenty of money and riches. You have different perspectives on this pride and the damage it does in the different bosses you encounter throughout the games on your way to completely humiliate Osmond Saddler in that at every turn you see people robbed of their power and individuality by the parasite. And pride is a dominating theme. In Mendez' case he went from a kind and caring chief and priest to blindly extolling the virtues of his Lord and brutally forcing his will on others to either bring them under Saddler's control or force them back into line, see the incident with Leon being infected with the plaga and Luis being tied up with him for examples. In Salazar's case, his ego and sense of self were incredibly fragile. His torturing small animals and being cruel to the castle staff are signs of feeling powerless, and I wouldn't be surprised if he *aherm please don't kill me youtube gods* violated some of the female servants. This is why he never directly addresses Ashley, instead demanding Leon hand her over as though she were a piece of property he was stealing rather than a living person. Ashley's personality in the remake has been changed to make her much more charming and less like a bratty child, meaning Salazar is far more likely to see her as threatening or judgemental. In the case of Krauser, he was betrayed by his country and so he betrayed them in turn by kidnapping Ashley in hopes that she might infect her father with the Plaga parasite. But I need to see Krauser's story in more detail. I have a prediction about the gist of operation Javier being about America's brutal exploitation of south america and undermining of its countries' national sovreignty (see real life event Operation Condor for examples). Anyway homies, thank you for coming to my ted talk, I'm just gonna go over here to Fallout 76 and hide out while I blast scorched, go broke trying to farm scorched beast stew, and make out with Sophia Deguerre. So any hate comments you leave will likely never reach my ears, or at least not do so for a very long time.

I haven’t played RE4 remake though i watched a friend of mine play it on his PS5 via screenshare. He always killed the shark fish thing then had to get off cause he was tired. So I didn’t even know this thing exists and honestly? I like it. This video was great and got a couple laughs out of me
So I´m wondering how this thing is breathing: if it uses the same way an insect breathes that the chitin wouldn´t be strong enough to protect it do to it´s massive size and the amount of movement it does which would mean it would need a lot of oxygen and if it´s breathing with lungs like a human then the Chitin armor would be a big problem since we also breath with our skin so it would need a more efficent way to transport the oxygen around it´s body
I remember 31. It was thirteen years, two back surgeries, two carpel tunnel reductions, bi-lateral hernia repair(after working with it for four months as a machinist and pushing my intestines back into my abdomen multiple times over each twelve hour shift until it almost got strangulated and the safety guy made me take time off.) And one complete acl tear. Five miniscule tears and one ruptured mcl. All in my right knee. All of that except the hernia was from being a commercial fisherman for twenty years. The hernia was after I went to college and got my "safe and dependable" machining job. Old age is not for the weak.

When I was a young lad and fought the Verdugo for the first time, scared the hell out of me! I defined got "got" a lot in this fight, which may have caused me to acquire an infinite RPG launcher and commence holy retribution upon this Predator-face looking SOB...not saying it was healthy, but damn was it cathartic! Cheap ass tail stabs from the ceiling with weird hit boxes! LOL
Go through this process while still be aware of what happening must be extremely painful. The fact that your spine is extended and then curved into a scorpion tail, must be excruciating. And then again is there any part of yourself left before this happens or during the process?
I would say it's form reminds me of the Xenomorph. But it's much closer to "The Fly II Hybrid form" Which was a Amazing look. All in all my Favorite B.O.W. from the RE Series. I remember the first time i fought him. I didn't kill him, i survived him, By Time dodges and Flame Grenades , til the Elevator got down and i got the hell out of there. Such a great fight.
Verdugo's design in the Remake is heavily influenced by roach-like appearance, similar to Reapers roaches from RE5, while in original RE4 it had more Xenomorph-inspired design.

Thanks I am happy to hear
Trust me you’ll love fighting this guy, such an adrenaline rush on higher difficulties
@@theshermantanker7043even the terminators have sass, i.e. Arnold in the first terminator at the gun store, even if it is a bit more monotone
Not only that but it straight up taunts you, moving its hand as in “come here and fight me”.
at 8 ft tall, Verdugo truly is in the wrong line of work
The Way the Verdugo stalks and tracks you through the lab, plus the way it can literally taunt you to come and try again and again, makes it clear that the monster retains some of its human intelligence and personality across its transformation., like he's really enjoying chasing you around and having some fun before he ends things. Though I guess he enjoyed the liquid nitrogen dousing a lot less.
Speaking of the liquid nitrogen I appreciate in the remake you trigger it as like a shower effect rather than just tipping over those massive canisters while Leon continues to stand RIGHT beside them. Dude would have been frozen himself in an instant. xD
Nothing quite like a cold burn thats for sure!
So the liquid nitrogen hanging above is better??
@@detroitshinobi4995 I think they make more sense from a practical and safety standpoint. Like I said, in the original they appear in the fight as these huge canisters that Leon tips over, and then the valve comes off and they spin around, spraying liquid nitrogen everywhere while Leon IS STILL STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO IT. He should really be frozen like a popsicle on the spot with that kind of safety precaution. The overhead showers can still damage and freeze you if you get caught in them, but it shows that there's less risk of being frozen instantly on the spot.
That point blank rocket shot was absolutely nefarious
;)
twas. I actually jumped. Noise cancelling head phones ftw
The maid's name is Pesanta
U3 has been removed from the game to avoid calling it an ‘it’ which is offensive to the trans community.
So they cut it out of the game to avoid having to gender it which is also offensive
Ummm... You're misunderstanding something. Pesanta IS U-III which is the maid who is also the caretaker of Salazar. The guy who came up with the whole procedure IS Verdugo! Verdugo is Uriarte aka U-I since the U designation derive from his family name.

Purge?! Burn!? *happy salamander noises*
Pretty sure that's literally what Genestealers become after enough generations. The obvious problem being, this form wouldn't help them do the main thing they're supposed to do: Blend in until it's too late
The problem with Genestealers in general is the fact Tyranid DNA is way too aggressive, so you end up with horrid hybrid monstrosities after very few generations, which obviously results in the Space Marines showing up and clearing them out violently
Xenomorph
@@ericlamb4501Nah, Genestealer cults are more insidious than that. They tend to stay off the radar for multiple generations, and the third generation are functionally indistinguishable from humans. By then they’ve fatally compromised the government and the military, and spent a century laying groundwork for an ultimate global uprising. Oh, and they have psychic mind control.
Now that Separate Ways is out, are you going to cover the other Verdugo? I believe it's different enough to deserve its own video.
Imagine if verdugo could regenerate and camouflage it would be even more scary.
Heavy armor and active camoflage tend to be an either/or deal. You're either iron beetle levels of tanky, but as obvious as an SUV crashing through some poor sap's front door, Or you're the Octopus with only 1 HP but capable of making Batman and Houdini look like amateurs.
U-II are Novistadores.
U-III are the Verdugos, in Remake Lore.
So what will the U-3 in the original be? U-4?
@@masterpiece8846 The notes on the creation of U-III are confusing, there are at least three subjects who were allegedly turned into U-III = A maid, a dog named "pesanta", and the creator Isidro Uriarte Talavera. The verdugos are definitely one of my favorite monsters in Resident Evil. It’s very xenomorphy.
Not just how that extra weight would be on your bones and muscles, but also how gravity minutely changes our height from morning to night, and how every night by laying down you're decompressing yourself, stretching back out to your true height.

oil! don't let the USA know!
@@submerged7640 its mentioned that it drives uninfected people mad and it was used to create the novis

Wtf was that math segment, that was great lol.
I guess if you're 80 years old you might as well become a Verdugo
Id be down haha
Let that sink in...
Christ on a bike, that's alot of grass...
Nah, I'm legit allergic to grass
@@BlackAnvil Cows will be happy.
If we never get to see the classic RE4 U3 in the Remake, it would be nice to make a video about the classic U3.
I was under the assumption that the castle aide was experimented on to give birth to the U-3.
Ngl, looks like my old math teacher.
The U in U-2 and what not stands for "Ultimate". Its stated in U-8s entry
Lol roanoke reminding me everytime that we're getting old and we gon die 😂😂😂🥲 1:36
Its alright bro, Many have come before and many will come after, but enjoy the time you have!
@@RoanokeGaming nahh it's ok I'm still in my 20th 😈
Reminds me a lot of how the Chimeras from RE1 Remake were made. The verdugos are pretty much a super upgraded version of the Chimera B.O.W.
The second Verdugo became U-3. You can find the note telling you this in the Throne Room, you have to go back there before going to the Clock Tower to find it.
I won’t lie Roanoke. You’re the reason I like The most Chad branch of science
He's a sexy piece of beef.
Same age. Been watching for years. Very enjoyable content. I love the movie summaries. Combine that with the science portion, and I basically get everything I want out of most of the movies. You typically let us know if we should still watch the movie, and I'll say you have good taste. Thanks man.
Uriarte (OOR-ree-Ahr-teh) is his surname. Talavera is his second surnane. Luis Serra Navarro would simply be "Luis Serra" in the US.
I believe U-1 is the Novistadors, as U-2 is the Verdugo.
I can’t remember where but I’m really certain I read a note on it in the game somewhere
Roanoke what's good homie!!! Your my ace !! Love your content and narration always brother, so proud of you and so happy you have grown both channels to such heights! Your the MJ of this genre of content without a doubt !!
Yessss finally. This boss scarred me for life as a child.
I would LOVE a deep dive into the progenitor virus by you! 😮
You should put the audio for this channel online as a podcast as well!!
I understand that some videos heavily depend on a visual representation, but a lot of your content would make great podcast material 👌
I wonder how it would actually do, Might be able to do something with that in the future!
@@RoanokeGaming id definitely be a listener! I love what you're doing with Real Horror as well, I listen every week
Any chance of a video on the Quarians from Mass Effect? (Attempt 13)
Bump.
Lol that fear of turning 31 was absolutely my mood back on the 5th too xD
Deep in the 30s now
3:10 I don't remember where, but I read/heard that the U-_ is supposed to indicate how many (types of) creatures were combined to result in said creature instead of it indicating the order they were made in
I love how he can tank an RPG and only get staggered, but a roundhouse kick from Leon sends him on its ass.
Leon can punch him hard enough to daze him too
How sick would a Free-For All be with a Tyrant, a Nemesis, a Verdugo, Albert Wesker, and Krauser?
I love how the Verdugo is like the only boss that can survive more than 1 RPG shots(Discounting phase bosses like Krauser or Saddler)
10:33 Fun fact as a Ginger, I get the best of both worlds.
I have a surprisingly large amount of neanderthal DNA, yet that didn't stop me from growing to be rather tall. This resulted in me going through multiple events that should have shattered my bones, and yet nothing happened.
Get rekt Umpa Loompas
I haven’t played RE4 remake though i watched a friend of mine play it on his PS5 via screenshare. He always killed the shark fish thing then had to get off cause he was tired. So I didn’t even know this thing exists and honestly? I like it. This video was great and got a couple laughs out of me
I believe that the Ada Wong story will feature the second U2, because it wasn’t by Saddler’s side like in the of, so it may feature the U3 as well
So I´m wondering how this thing is breathing: if it uses the same way an insect breathes that the chitin wouldn´t be strong enough to protect it do to it´s massive size and the amount of movement it does which would mean it would need a lot of oxygen
and if it´s breathing with lungs like a human then the Chitin armor would be a big problem since we also breath with our skin so it would need a more efficent way to transport the oxygen around it´s body
Maybe the Verdugo evolved many spiracles to compensate for the human lungs.
My brother in Christ what are you doing to your meatsuit? Taking the "why would I want to leave behind a pretty corpse?" quite literally eh?
That’s what Roanoke looks like? I always imagined either full biology science gear or office attire. My dude looks like he would be down for some mudding and a crawfish boil anytime.
Will you ever make a video about The Strain?
Need to watch it but I am considering it!
the researches name is pronounced something like ee-see-droh oo (as in google without the g)-ree-ahr-teh tah-lah-veh-rah
LOL
The fact that I learn more from these videos than I do in school is concerning and impressive.
20:24 - CAVITATION FTW, BABY!
Verdugo reminds me of the dude in the Guyver movie who didn't finish his Zoanoid incubation & died halfway turning into a roach-like Zoanoid
Definitely one of my favorites breakdown videos. Keep up the great work Roanoke
Thanks brother!
Gonna need a higher force multiplier.
The most terrifying thing to encounter in vr espacially when i had no ammo
Damn roanoke is built
I played this game back in the day. I have zero memory of this enemy. I must have blocked it out.
*THE BEST ENEMY.*
Just leaving a comment for my love of the ever evolving “A: 2: D:” joke in so many of Roanoke’s videos
Verdugo's design in the Remake is heavily influenced by roach-like appearance, similar to Reapers roaches from RE5, while in original RE4 it had more Xenomorph-inspired design.
