Kenny was such a badass when he was young. Total punk with a chip on his shoulder. The kid was just tough. I remember when I first saw him in 2000 I was blown away and my ears rang for 3 days it was so fucking loud. He's since settled into family life and has an air of maturity about him now. Still great but this was his heyday. I met his original singer Corey Sterling many years ago and I asked him about Kenny. He said "he likes to drive around in his Chevy Blazer, smoking pot and listening to rap music". I thought that was perfect. I also met Kenny years later and smoked a cigarette with him talked about music and bikes. Cool dude, likes cars, Harley's and guitars. Can't hate on that.
Kenny Wayne Shepherd: If it wasn't for him, I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing today. He played the guitar the way that I thought it should be played. I never heard anybody play it like that before him, and I've never heard anybody play it like that since. He's just very much responsible for bringing the blues to where it is today, and for inspiring so many other musicians to grab a guitar and start playing. I'm still trying to do stuff that was just floating out of him. I still listen to his records and I've heard the songs a million times, but every time I listen I'm still blown away. He was playing this outdoor amphitheater in Shreveport, Louisiana in '83 or '84 and my father was the promoter of the show. Before Stevie went onstage, my dad took me back and introduced me to him. He was such a compassionate person; a very sweet guy. Stevie picked me up and sat me down to the side of the stage on an amp case, and I just sat there and watched this whole show, if you can imagine a seven year-old sitting still for that long. From that day forward, I walked away begging for a guitar, and six months later I started playing. He was my idol, he taught me how to play and he didn't even know that he taught me.
Except you totally made this bs story up. 😅😂😅 People comment stuff like this on videos all of the time. Corey Sterling and Kenny Wayne Cleary had a falling out and aren't on good terms.
If there is anyone who can fulfill the late great SRV shoes , it must be Kenny Wayne , he's got that touch and feeling the way he play, and that free spirit just like Stevie Ray did ,that's a huge separation between a great guitar player and a great guitar player wannabe , just keep growing and keep stretching , l'm so sure Kenny is going to be a guitar giant as we know it !
funny comments, huge SRV fan and I gotta tell ya i enjoy the so-called "copycat" or "clone" guitar players. They are not here to replace him, only tribute and cement him as the original melder of all guitar greats that preceded him. As Stevie himself once said there is room for everybody. Thank goodness these guys exist. I appreciate some SRV licks in modern songs. Check out Tommy Katona for a true SVR tribute. You won't be disapointed.
@6gentex actually you do hear people saying stevie is a jimi clone.. those people are called jealous... and they're in the same group as JM and KWS haters
Ummmmmmm no, SRV didn't copy Hendrix. Maybe he played Voodoo Child occasionally, but that doesn't mean he copied him. Now check out Albert King and Howlin' Wolf and you'll see more SRV in them..
@@nsc217 I doubt KWS can play anything outside of blue scale and pentatonic. JM is playing with D&C and he can adapt to several style and adds alot of colors in his improv.
@@nsc217 wooooah... mayer is definitely one of the best. Clapton himself says he's a master guitarist and that mayer has no idea how good he is. He's played with the likes of bb king and has written songs that will last ages. If you don't believe me check our where the light is.
I used to hate KWS back in the 90's, I thought I was only 18 year old kid playing Stevie ray Vaughan songs at a time when there was a feeling a great loss in the blues world and I used to day dream filling that void and he comes out of nowhere. I guess it's not that hard to achieve that level of success as a 18 year old when your dad is a high ranking music executive and puts the world in your hands.
@67goldtops Dude, be grateful that there are still developing new great blues guitarists. Guys like KWS and Joe Bonamassa make sure blues won't be forgotten
I'm sorry, but a lot of us like it. I like his sound and approach because I love SRV. But he's not SRV. He's doing his own music, which is not easy. When I listen to SRV I also listen to Hendrix & Albert King.
Well, I suppose those who missed the opportunity to see SRV really dig this performance. However, it just leaves me asking the question, what does KWS do that hasn't already been done better?
People amaze me, when slamming current musicians by comparing them to previous ones. Kenny Wayne is talented, and he slowly developed his style. John Mayer - talented. Derek Trucks - talented. There's nothing wrong with being influenced by a previous artist. You don't hear people saying Stevie was just a Jimi clone. I forgot Popa Chubby - talented. Enjoy the music, because afterall, it just is what it is. It's not a battle of the bands highschool pissing contest.
@guitarthroat lol. John Mayer is a "clone cashing in on Stevie's stuff"? Name me one SRV song that Mayer ever put on a CD except "Lenny" that was a bonus on "Room for Squares". And on your quote...If you have an idea that a million people will buy, you'll make a million dollar on that. So...if following your logic it would make an idea good. There, common sense, feel free to use it.
@puffinonindo It's really a shame for them. They spend so much wasted time and energy on negativity when they could be enjoying the music. Oh well, better them than us!
See I don't understand everyone saying he coping SRV and it funny SRV copy hendrix theirs ashamed of he is the closes you will ever to hear SRV live so thank him not hate him.
@drumdude199 LOL. First of all, the Blues is in fine shape without KWS and Joe. Secondly, they're not that new. Thirdly, there's plenty of young blues-based players who are far more original on the instrument than KWS could even hope to be. Give Eric Gales, Luther Dickinson, or Mato Nanji a listen. Let alone Derek Trucks as THE current blues player.
Not even close to stevie!!!! He doesnt play it like Stevie in the beginning either. And theres just no dAMN EMOTION. wHAT A MOCKERY!!!!! sTEVIE POURED HIS EMOTION INTO HIS GUITAR!!!
Yeah, man. KWS can do SRV songs very well but he is not a "replacement," of course. Indeed, there is no such thing. On the other hand, we can continue nowadays to appreciate SRV songs played by guys like KWS, who can definitely make the "house rocking"!

An Amazing guitar player his only 20 years old in this video I mean wow !! Respect KWS
What a great feeling and energy!! Harmony is on top. Blues music when it´s really good! /Thanks for the video!

I'd have to disagree. He's a great player, but he has no soul. And you can't teach that.
I saw him play the other night in NYC @ City Winery. He keeps getting better evry time i see him. His band is really great. Love the new record also.

Amazing! Great cover. I’m sure SRV is proud.
Thank God for Kenny Wayne. He fills an absolutely huge void.
@6gentex actually you do hear people saying stevie is a jimi clone.. those people are called jealous... and they're in the same group as JM and KWS haters
Thank God for Kenny Wayne , a guitar legend in the making !
Ummmmmmm no, SRV didn't copy Hendrix. Maybe he played Voodoo Child occasionally, but that doesn't mean he copied him. Now check out Albert King and Howlin' Wolf and you'll see more SRV in them..
Oh my god, KWS and John Mayer are extremely similar in style. Obviously both inspired by SRV but damn they play the same exact licks.
don't forget tone! that's also almost the same. Love them both.
Kenny’s a million times better than JM... JM can’t play like this
@@nsc217 I doubt KWS can play anything outside of blue scale and pentatonic.
JM is playing with D&C and he can adapt to several style and adds alot of colors in his improv.
They are the next Hendrix and SRV in this generation.
@@nsc217 wooooah... mayer is definitely one of the best. Clapton himself says he's a master guitarist and that mayer has no idea how good he is. He's played with the likes of bb king and has written songs that will last ages. If you don't believe me check our where the light is.
That was EXCELLENT; good job KW!
This is called 'To The Bone' not 'So Excited' It's a KWS instrumental. It sounds like So Excited because it incorporates every SRV lick in the song.
dillyo40 The Intro is exactly the same as SRV recorded version of So Excited. If Kenny says this is his song then wow

Yeah, that Tommy, he's the closest sounding guitarist to SRV. He's awesome.
Mato nanji has a lot of SRV influence.
all day, every day. no one compares.
@67goldtops Dude, be grateful that there are still developing new great blues guitarists. Guys like KWS and Joe Bonamassa make sure blues won't be forgotten

no one in the world can touch Kenny Wayne Shepherd.
jim Mr. Mayer?
Um yah SRV can
I'm gonna try
SRV is the best KWS is second. Is very good the way he can play like stevie
Christopher Sato actually john mayer sounds much better than kenny
@greasegat why would it be that much easier? your either good or you arent. dont be bitter, enjoy the greatest blues guitarist alive WIth us.

he´s VERY good... BUT, he doesn´t make me cry or shed a tear like stevey did... SRV had SO much soul and feeling... But Kenny is great all right.
I'm surprised him and Mayer or Sayce haven't crossed paths over the years being they're all the same age grinding on the same music..
Justin Anderson right?
Love DBL
@poocrumble You're completely right! Thank you so much!
If you guys like SRV it's funny I've found the best SRV styled guitarists I've found are Philip Sayce an Kenny
James Court Yeah Phillip is the best I’ve heard at that
heee is amazing player
@guitarthroat So, how's your musical career going? Where can we catch you on tour?
yeah buddy. Stevie would be proud.
Woah! that is actually quite amazing.. not that far away from SRV
He spent a couple years learning slightly from SRV and watching him
Play, Kenny’s dad was good friends with Stevie
Some Serious Jammin'!!
@guitarthroat So, how's your musical career going?
Does anyone know if he has pedals on here? Tube screamer? Or is this just overdriven amp (trying to get this tone from my fractal)
there's a little bit of 'empty arms' in there around the 4 minute mark ;D
great !!!!
Stevie, is that you?
@guitarthroat lol. John Mayer is a "clone cashing in on Stevie's stuff"? Name me one SRV song that Mayer ever put on a CD except "Lenny" that was a bonus on "Room for Squares". High ranking music executive? I think he was just a manager.
@drumdude199

Mayer is not in the same league... he´s not even close...
I’d say he’s above but ok
@MadddSkillzzz said forresr gump.

Stevie reincarnated?
is guat zum auschaun ober kiss san besser mit 100.000 years
Please Mayer & Wayne: Walk, don´t run!
Nice try KWS....... I miss you SRV...
And thinking, that every good performing guitar player just wants to be SRV is even funny... in a way. Like "Forrest Gump". Funny, but still very sad.
*yawn* Sounds familiar, doesn't it Henry Garza? Proof there will never be a shortage of SRV clones for a looooong while.
Not even close to stevie!!!! He doesnt play it like Stevie in the beginning either. And theres just no dAMN EMOTION. wHAT A MOCKERY!!!!! sTEVIE POURED HIS EMOTION INTO HIS GUITAR!!!
