    Fabulous work, gentlemen! What an epic project... I am really looking forward to seeing this one come together! What a treat to see how good most of the structure is on that car! Who would've suspected that storing them upside down in the bush was the best way to preserve them... Great stuff... All the best from here!

      Hello mate, we discussed doing a risky thing by removing the roof with no bracing. The car only moved about 2mm and was brought into perfect alignment with a light application of a floor jack at the front. It looks terrible but is really solid, cheers.

    This is a truly miraculous save!! When you all were cleaning out the dross I kept saying it can't be that solid down under. WOW! These kind of projects are not for the feint hearted you need a lot of experience and guts to tackle an abandoned rollover. Great job!!!

      Thanks Wesley. I wasn't concerned about the mess on the floor... for perhaps 20+ years the car was on its roof, so the underside of the floors would have been sitting in full sun... and DJ said they were okay haha

    It looks like it's past saving but listening to you and Graham listing what needs to be done and how, inspires confidence it can and will be resurrected. Some interesting and different items in the workshop thanks for sharing. Couldn't help noticing the Wolseley hub caps on your trailer!

    idk what I love most about this... an XA being restored, or the fact that so many Aussie RUclipsrs have been involved in the process so far! I know he's not Aussie, but here's hoping HubNut comes back to Australia to drive the XA once it's restored. 👍

  • @graemeburr6463

    I'm going to love watching the progress of this build. The XA is my favourite Falcon, of all time, the "revolutionary model". I can't tell you the last time I saw one on the road over here in NZ. In 1980 I bought an Aussie assembled 72 XA Falcon 500 sedan. 302C, column auto, bench, no power steer, parchment interior and vinyl roof, in copper bronze. Sold it in 1988. Wish I still had it. I turned down the opportunity in the past to buy a 250 2v Coupe also, if only we knew then what we know now.

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  2 года назад

      Don't forget that the current prices are not sustainable. Interest rates are on the rise and the first things to get ditched when money gets tight is the trusty old project car. I think these cars will all get back to realistic money... I mean $305K for a Cobra? Pfffft!

    Some people find a donor car for a floor, you’ve just done the opposite finding a roof . What a solid bottom end which is very hard to find nowadays. I took note of Graham saying vinyl floor compared to carpet causing rust , exactly what my VJ Valiant wagon has done , it’s solid in the plenum ,pillars and sills but needs foot wells replaced . I remember DJ finding this , I’d love to have his access to the bush out West . Great project Pete , high dollar car when finished , cheers

      It's all in its story... 35 years in the outback according to the Elders and it's been on it's roof for most of that and been used as target practice. So far the shell, roof and doors have been cheap. Graham has straightened the car and fitted the roof and the interior is being done by Jason Hill; both gents are master craftsmen in their fields. I will be handling all metalwork, body repairs, wiring, painting, mechanical reconditioning and assembly from this point. The car will be very reasonably priced to restore. If I was to buy a local car with a good roof, it would be significantly more rusted in its substructure and be around $10K more to buy before any work has been carried out. No disrespect taken, this thing is a total gem, cheers.

I also made it clear that there was no hurry with the guards at all, given that he has to run a business and I was tired of the car fighting me anyhow. I've spent some time with Graham and was amazed at the huge backlog of work he has, as well as some very demanding customers to boot, yet there's only one of him... It isn't unusual for him to work well into the night where he's consequently missing rest and time with his young family. Basically, it's a bit rough to say 'just get them done' my stuff can wait as long as he sees fit, cheers.

    Fixable it definitely is but it’s a bit of a stretch to say it’s a good car, completely out of reach for the average bloke in a shed, I’d much rather be replacing a floor pan and sill extension than a complete roof, it’s a bit sad that these are so thin on the ground that cars like this are seen as a viable to repair, the hours involved in rust repairs alone would be mind blowing and the chances of this car bending out of shape with only moderate power is high, full respect must go to you though for even attempting a repair on this scale

    anything can be resored ....... depends on how deep your pockets are

      True, but so far this original XA V8 has been about a third of what you would pay for a rusted out 6 cylinder car in need of complete restoration anyway. I have most parts necessary to turn this banger into a swan.
