    Lovely BBQ but get a cover for bottom gas fitting to stop salt spray going onto fitting and you have the best BBQ ever,

    You're in America, Mate. That is called a grill. Bar-B-Que is the process of low heat for a long period using hardwood and to add a kiss of smoke to whatever you're cooking.

      Hey DWB,
      Thanks for watching and the comment. We even struggle at the supermarkets when looking for something to put the groceries in and when we ask we are told they don’t have any “trolleys”.... A grill to us is when you cook something with an element over the top, bonnet/ hood, boot/ trunk - we are getting bilingual gradually!!!!! The good ones are thongs (sandals), woody, Randy and more. All good fun... I had to learn Australian when I moved there too...

    Ouch! The cost of installing sattlelite connectivity is more much more than I would have expected. One thing I will say is that SpaceX have launched their Starlink service -- works in the same way, but is currently suitable for rural homes -- it offers 100X the speed at 100X less than current marine solutions. I should imagine it would be the defacto service for sailors once they launch a boat/van version.
    Very informative video nevetheless! Can't wait to see the next one.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  3 года назад

      Thanks for bringing that up. I have signed up for SPaceX updates but until they produce a satellite that has wider coverage we will be stuck with the high cost ones and then maybe the competition will reduce the other's fees! It would be good to have more affordable satellite connectivity as we really only use it when we need to and the unlimited channel is good for weather and emails every day.... Live in hope for the Space X promise of cheaper services!
      Thanks for the feedback and for watching.

    Hi, guys. it would be a good idea to have a half litre spray bottle on hand into which you mix in some detergent into clean water so that you can spray the fittings after you turn on the gas/LPG supply to make sure that you don't have any bubbles in evidence, which would indicate that the fitting(s) are NOT sealed properly. I couldn't determine in the video how well that you wound on the gas fitters plumbing tape to the threads on the various fittings nor how much tension you applied to the fitting. 'Hand tight' would not necessarily produce an efficient seal. If the safety cut-off device kicks in this will help you locate the unsealed fitting.

    • @barefootdoctorssailing8567
      @barefootdoctorssailing8567  3 года назад

      Yes thanks Gypsy Jack, I am always concerned about the risk of gas leaks so have always tightened the fittings with spanners and use the tape generously to the full depth of the thread. I have used a spray bottle in the past, just did not have one available (empty).
      So thanks for the great advice for all of us and thanks for watching!

      Thanks for watching Joe. We are really happy with the Leopard this season aNd are waiting on a proper spinnaker that will help us sail well in light winds. The sound that has not worked well is when we have used the iPhone and the sound pickup is poor. We are trying to get better sound so will helpfully improve the quality going forwards.

    Ouch that is a lot of money wasted though to be fair there was no way at that point that StarLink was going to take off the way it has. Pun not intended now the existing systems are not suitable for mobile use however StarLink move fast and have applied for licenses for RV aircraft and Maritime use. The equipment they use is quiet different in the base stations and not compatible with your $30,000 system exactly what the mobile version will be we will have to see but the existing systems use electronic steering to lock onto a satellite unlike yours which is a 3 axis physical system. Their satellites are in lower orbit and since their has to be you and a Base station in its footprint the coverage might not be so good mid pacific. However they are testing Laser links on Satellites now so if there is no base station it passes it on to another satellite.
    On the flipside and good news for you is that what you have got is the only alternative at the moment. SpaceX act fast and they have already trialled it for the USAF so considerably development will go into the mobile system. It will no doubt be considerably cheaper and the monthly data costs will as well. Of course no one has any idea when they will hit the market but they act fast and I would not be surprised if you can buy one this time next year. The other advantages you will find is that it will be both more reliable as less moving parts and require less power to run for more or less the same reasons.

      Dear Glen,
      Thanks for the detailed update on Starlink - great info and we wait in anticipation...
      Yes we knew the risk of obsalescence for our dome when starlink is functional but we really needed to have connectivity for these next 12 months due to business needs. If Starlink works and saves us $1000 per month we will sacrifice the asset value. Sad but with no options now, we took the plunge with the gratitude that we could afford it!
