I recalls it opens at 6:30 am. I would have it around 7 plus when uncle is at his peak. As uncle is elderly. It’s hard for him to maintain the standard come lunch time. 11 am is pretty late.
I have to point out that the moisture is mainly from the addition of cockles. From what i learnt, hawkers use the liquid that is used to soak cockles to add moisture into the kway during frying. The addition of cockles ill inevitably add more of those liquids trapped between the cockles when he was scooping them up
I have been there at 645am before. No queue, top wok hei. Only customers were taxi uncles at that time.
yeah that's a great technique, better than adding plain water. I suspect however, that he'll be able to dry out the noodles if the wok wasn't that crowded or if he could afford more time. coming early really is the secret sauce.
Yes I never bother to queue for this because totally not worth the waiting - I'm not surprised at the 2-noodle rating. HOWEVER, I went during Covid (2021?) Saturday morning when there were very few people, man it was one of the best plates of CKT I've ever had in my life! So yeah, don't go when it's crowded loh.
Outrum need to come at 8am to eat, is their normal quality
Hi brother, I have been eating Outram Park Char Kway Teow here for more then 50years and am convinced it's the best in Singapore.. I think you should not have asked for the extra egg....as for me I love the chilli so always ask for extra chilli and extra cockles..just FYI.also tried the other stalls you reviewed and found them to be only average...just my opinion .enjoy your reviews ..cheers
Hoping you will review guan kee at Ghim Moh. And do give Outram Park CKT another chance by coming at 9am - just gonna do the ckt breakfast taste test 😂
Outram Park CKT is the original recipe, that uncle is doing this for ove 40 years, yes 40 years. I patronised him since his Outram Park days. He will prepare the lard keropok early at 6am. I used to eat this with lup chong. He is the best. Those days it only cost $2.50 a plate. hahaha
11 am is too late. the quality is (in my experience) significantly better before 9 am or even 8 am as the shifu can take his time to fry each plate / batch.
100% agree. Coming before 9am really makes the diff in quality & time saved😂
Agree as well
Alderic u made me happy :)) I noe this store for not less than 20yrs at least, nv eaten once due to the crazy queue.. curious and remorse.. 2 plates from u, okay lah suah 😂
Do you know if the regular one is vegetarian? Egg is okay for me
Outram park ckt is very good when you are eating it. It’s moist but not oily. It is delicious and has the option to add eggs. However, what puts me off is its after taste when I burp 1-2 hrs after eating it, perhaps due to indigestion from the pork lard.
Have dropped by Hong Lim many times over the years, the queues have always been a regular occurrence each time I remember. Have only managed to eat there only once or twice myself, I prefer Penang style CKT so theirs was not for me. My limit for waiting for food is pretty much 30 odd minutes so I've never thought to try them again. Good on them for being able to continue holding that much business though!
oK BUT THIS REVIEW IS MAKING ME HUNGRY
Wah Alderic, i thought monday today sia hahaha
must eat at 6-7am, that's the best timing for this CKT.
Pls review 伦记 at Chinatown complex, green zone #02-74
They are good, still the best. It depends on when u place your order. When the crowd is long, quality dropped, dont expect Wok Hei. The good news is the son cook much better but he is slower n the q will be bad
Thanks for this review, hopefully more people see this and shorten the queue. 🤣
michelin star is the death of quality
The wetness came from the addition of extra cockles and extra egg.
Agree with rating , overcrowding of wok is like the root of all evil
I will only get the $4.5 or $5.5 portion. No added eggs or cockles. It will make the ckt wetter which I do not prefer.
i waiting for carrot cake series
Came here on a weekday afternoon to try and agree it’s disappointing - too mushy/wet, not enough wok hei flavour, couldn’t finish my small plate. Not sure why there was still a q for 30mins. Have yet to try the other famous ckt at chinatown or telok blangah, but this is one of the not so good ones I’ve had. Lao fu zi (old airport rd) and the Zion Rd (newton) ckt were alot better with my current fav being from Zion Rd.
Omg zion road one is so bad.. Overly sweet. Guess diff ppl really have diff tastes as I couldn't finish the zion rd ckt. Their other offering of beansprouts tasted so much better
Still cannot bbeat penang CKT. Here overly sweet and ppl like it. Diabetes max.
Zion Road is absolute no no.
This stall quality is time n crowd dependable
Lao Fu Zi actually opened 2 stalls to its left more than a decade ago to compete. It lasted less than 5 months because there was hardly any customers. Have tried Lao Fu Zi at Old Airport Road Hawker Ctr too and will not recommend it
So why are people queueing?
yay new episode!
Friday upload LETSGO
Being the hai kee supporter i am (because i live in the area), i am only afraid of this beating hai kee. But after Alderic’s review, i can safely say hai kee sounds like he is winning. 🎉
Got timing to enjoy his KT, must go at the right time so he can cook the KT properly. Never order this kind of food during peak hours....
You try to go as early as you can in the morning to get the betterer taste... my 1 cents...
I go there by 7am in the morning, and they already have 5 to 8 pax in front of me.
Tried this once and I don't understand the hype and queue. It's very wet, quite sweet and overall not that tasty. I didn't have to queue as long few years back too. Mass cooking won't taste that great.
For a second I thought you went to my school
Mushy and no wok-hei, personally find this stall has been over-rated all these years.
No wok hei is correct but it still taste good
Queue is simply too long but more importantly mushy noodles is a big fail. If not for reputation you should give 1 star
No more standard Zion hawker the best 👍👍👍
this one OG
Most popular ckt
Not true. Absolutely not true. It is not the best char kuay teow. It's only so so, too wet and taste ordinary. You should go try Tiong Bahru char kuay teow. Many times better than Outram one.
To my taste, the kway teow is just so so and certainly not the best in Singapore. I have eaten everywhere and there is nothing special. I used to see queues and wonder why .
I go there to eat once, I never go back again. Not worth one noodles.
Similar to Zion road one. Overrated and overqueue. Hahaha
Zion Road is bad, this is much better but quality is time dependent
buisness gd..standard drop already..soggy..Zion road is
better.
Extremely Overrated imo
