I think Pierre saw a bouquet of sunflowers addressed to Caroline one day, and rather than ask who was kind enough to send this nice gift, he assumed it was the Wizard. After ripping the seeds from the flowers by hand, he posted them and any subsequent orders of sunflower seeds at a higher price out of spite.
Leap out here proving that flowers aren’t worth the investment unless you just like the aesthetics.

Fairy rose honey can be pretty swell to be fair. But the amount of setup required to earn a decent return makes it kind of pointless from a competitive/optimized point of view.
@@Leapalot - Fair point! On our multiplayer farm, my friend overtook one section of Ginger Island with a specific arrangement of bee houses and fairy roses. It certainly generates a fair bit of coin, but the cost of set-up was indeed rough.
Pierre makes sunflower seeds more expensive because he knows I'm too lazy to go all the way to joja, unless it's a Wednesday💀💀

A sunflower stole Pierre's wallet when he was a young shopkeep. So he hatched a scheme to make them a bit less available in an attempt to protect himself from future sunflowers, while at the same time getting some money from the sunflowers. With interest.

Would have been even better if you used seed machines and fed your crops back into them - more in line with the spirit of the coffee farm
I was thinking the same thing. You get one to three seeds per harvest, with a small chance of them coming out as mixed seeds or an ancient seed. It would be interesting to see what a harvest of crops from one sunflower seed for its whole growing season would end up as by the time it ended.

oh my god okay so i never knew spreading weeds could kill your sprinklers until i found my iridium sprinklers vanishing on ginger island where i was trying to plant ancient fruit 🙃 had to learn the hard way unfortunately! they took out around three or four of my sprinklers before i was able to get the field filled + fenced to keep the weeds out.

I think sunflower seeds are cheaper at Joja Mart because they're edible irl. Everyone in town talks about how Joja Mart is way more affordable, maybe it only applies to food items?
That's about the only thing that makes sense to me as well!
On the subject of sunflower seeds: Did you know that Pierre's even more of a beast with them than at first glance? Regularly, sunflower seeds sell for 200 at Pierre's and 100(?) at Joja Mart. If you're playing with a profit margin, Pierre continues to sell for 200, while Joja Mart discounts the seeds by your profit margin! Sunflowre seeds for me, for example, cost 25G at Joja Mart.

Darn. It appears I was drawing the wrong conclusion. I must have a mod that's somehow adjusting prices somewhere to make me sell the sunflower seedss at Pierre's for 27G. On a brand new test file to test my theory, sunflower seeds only sold for 25G, making my previously touted tactic impossible. Now if only I could figure out which mod I have that's altering prices like that, since I never intended that result... Walk Of Life, maybe?
As a consequence of Joja Mart selling sunflower seeds for 25G and Pierre not marking down sunflower seeds while playing at a lower profit margin... you can abuse this.
Start a farm at 25% profit margin.
Sleep or play till summer.
Buy seeds for 25G from Joja Mart.
Sell seeds at Pierre's shop for 27G.
Infinite cash!
