  • In this video, we will be weathering with India Ink to bring out the details of my Tunnel Portal & Bridge Pier. This is a technique that I've used for many years just using a teaspoon or two of the ink in a pint of 70% alcohol.
The exact mixture is up to the individual modelers taste as basically it's a hit or miss process depending on the effect desired. A lighter mixture is recommended since one can always add another coat if it is too light.

Tom, its kinda a shame that those wooden tunnel portals are somewhat hidden behind the other bridges because they look amazing. I do like how all the bridges look, the wreathing on the steel bridges is awesome. Cheers Rob

Tom, have you tried using black acrylic paint with alcohol versus the India Ink with alcohol? I'm wondering what the difference would be and if you would want to use one versus the other? Thanks.

Don, haven't tried acrylic paint with alcohol. There are many, many people that use several colors mixed with alcohol to get unusual effects when poured on their medium of choice. From what I understand the alcohol fractures (for lack of a better term) the paint causing it to spread in unpredictable directions and patterns. I suppose if I wanted a marble effect I would try it, but at this time I'll stick with India Ink.
