Fantastic interview! Loved the interaction between Joss and the interviewer - not too sure what the comment is about him being horrible... It seems like he was just trying to cover as many topics as possible and then allow the audience to fill in the gaps. Better than being overbearing and dominating like so many interviewers try to do. He even cracks a few jokes! Maybe they were very British (lol) but made me chuckle. Of course, interviewing Joss certainly makes his job easier lol
I love Joss so much..I'm in love with his brain..for me he is the number one director and creator since 1997 with buffy and I follow all of his work..I wish I was at the audience ..I have so many questions to ask him..and most importantly to beg him to bring back a slayer story..not necessary buffy..he has so much more to give in this universe.
+SakiS D. totally agree. another slayer story would be amazing...do u read the buffy comics? they are quite good, as well as the angel/faith comics
would be fantastic if there was another buffy spin-off, keep the Universe alive
SakiS D.
He still does Buffy. It's on season 11 now.
haven`t seen him for some time, good Q&A
It's amazing to see the difference between this and, say, an American Comic-Con or Nerd HQ audience. There, every person who gets a mic spends 5 minutes talking about themselves, or crying because of that character that Joss wrote and how much that character meant to them personally, or trying to be the wittiest most ironic wordsmith in the room WHEN THEY'RE IN A ROOM WITH JOSS WHEDON. It's actually jarringly weird to see people getting handed the microphone and just going straight to asking their questions.
Spot on -they do make it all about themselves, whereas here, there's a gentle reveal and growth by Whedon himself
Imagine having this dude criticise your apperance...
When he discussed "The Monkey's Paw", did Buffy S5E17 "Forever", come to anyone else's mind? I thought that connection was interesting.
+Sara Rizza (dovahkiingirl) exactly what I thought of.
13:13 NOBODY in the room got the Jessica Fletcher joke! I started laughing but his audience in the room weren't laughing with me. I had to go back and rewind it. The joke died in that room and you can see Whedon's look of disappointment there for a second, as his brain goes, "Oh. Right. This is Oxford not Newark and most of the people in this room were born after Murder She Wrote anyway.."
I thought Ultron sounded a LOT like Joss Whedon, even the tonality of voice. At first viewing I thought it actually was Joss Whedon actually speaking the role.
Great interview great Q&A
must be a young audience...nobody reacted to the hilarious Murder She Wrote reference at around 00:13:00
+Rene Suarez I know, right? lol
+Rene Suarez They're all fresh-faced students, who probably aren't aware of anything before 2000
+Rene Suarez Yeah, I had to look it up... and I used to watch that show when I was tiny, before I did things like 'character names'
+Stuart Garside Wasn't the world created in the year 2000? =P
If they weren't aware of anything before 2000, then they wouldn't be aware of Buffy.
It blows my mind that Oxford is almost 1000 years old...
I am sure.....
I think it's 100% haunted
Joss just dropped a great murder she wrote joke and nobody even chuckled... it might just be an American thing
+jasonbakermusic Or they are all about murder
I'm a Brit and watched Murder She Wrote. The problem is that it rarely gets a rerun now and that crowd was largely too young to know it
i noticed that too....NO ONE got that
Robert McGovern
Same. The UK loved Murder She Wrote, but this crowd are too young to have got it.
I was shocked by that too! You'd think at least one of them would have laughed.
Great Q&A. I love his answer about the way we consume movies these days, and how tv & film kind of switched, television does seem more surprising and challenging.
A great filmmaker and a great guy. It's a shame Age of Ultron kind of ruined him, it's the best Marvel film in my opinion
+Barney on Google I agree; it's the best Marvel film to date. I don't believe that it ruined him. It has done very well and the average rating of the film amongst critics is a B+. Trust that Joss is in high demand now thanks to his two successful Marvel films.
+aroundtheclock Yeah I loved how it was so full of so much different stuff but still fitted together really well! Yeah I suppose, lets hope he has another great project for everyone soon!
Barney on Google Yeah, I'm hoping he has something new and exciting in store for us soon.
Best? I love everything else Joss has made. Ultron wasn't even half as good as the first avengers movie.
Andy Baker That's your opinion. My opinion is that Age of Ultron is leagues ahead of the first Avengers, which felt rushed and sloppy to me.
Oxford looks like Hogwarts Castle. End of my contribution.
sou fã desse cara amei a era de ultron.
The man who directed Avengers 1&2
I hate to say it, but I forgot all about the abuse allegations and whatnot. Halfway through the video, I decided to scroll down and have a peek at the comments only to see people mentioning it, triggering a quick Google search to make sure my memory wasn't playing tricks on me (I have issues) and that people weren't just being toxic (as if often the case online, sadly).
What a piece of shit. Regardless of how much I love his work, he doesn't deserve an ounce of respect for it considering you must think that the majority of it was created under disgusting circumstances. I'm glad that so many across various platforms have gathered the strength to speak out about these matters in recent years. That and any type of negative behaviour is fucking awful.
I couldn't imagine what would make such a creative mind do such a thing to the characters he supposedly loved so much.
He does deserve a second chance though.
I feel this
Joss should come and control the X Men universe at Fox. Him and Singer would be a great combo.
Whedon definitely! Singer couldn't leave sooner.
Ur comment gave me CANCER! #ReleasetheSnyderCut
How times change.
Hahaha about that...
@@inr9751 yup 😂
Whedon is a great screenwriter and very eloquent about his craft..
If I may, a little critique for the interviewer: you want to ask relevant follow-up questions to what the interviewee has just said. And, more importantly, when a question has been answered and the interviewee is rambling or starts to repeat her/himself, you want to ask another question, not wait for them to stop speaking, cause that is awkward for them (case in point 17:10) and for the audience. Pretty good questions though!
Joss, you are so wrong about nobody caring about Runaways. Still waiting on that movie!
+HealerLeona This is so true. Hopes for the movie!!!
+HealerLeona I think a lot of Runaways fans were down on his particular run on runaways, when they went to the past and picked up Klara Prast and that whole thing... it was pretty rough.
i would love for joss to write for jessica jones season 2. it would be a much smaller scale than avengers, but he can still flex his buffy muscles.
is it a thing when American's speak in front of Brits, they kind of slip into a slight British accent? haha
I noticed that too lol
Indubitably, my dear chap.
I wish the audience would have asked more refined questions. This could have been interesting and insightful.
One of the best creators like J K Rowling, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, George Lucas, JJ Abrams, Sydney Newman, Gene Roddenberry, RL Stine, Rachelle Mead, Stephen King, Kevin Williamson, and much more
F*ck off with that shit, lmao. The guy may be great at what he does, but he absolutely should not be mentioned in the same conversation as Tolkien, Lewis or Martin. Also JJ Abrams, really?
56:38-58:06
projection at its finest!
Clark Gregg comment at 11:30
Oh boy........
age of ultron = the best.
is Monkey's Paw what the moment where Buffy's mom nearly comes back is based on?
In Joss We Trust
+Dire Wolf (Ghost) You are gorram right
+Dire Wolf (Ghost) lol i read 'in joss we thrust'
Really?
I hate Fox. Not showing the firstepisode. Well first. Such a great introduction, could have pulled more to see it, so it might not have been cancelled. :)
Great interview, thanks for uploading this! (And yes the terrific Jessica Fletcher joke went sadly unnoticed.)
bring back Firefly
Yes.
WHY THE HELL DID NOBODY CLAP WHEN HAMILTON WAS BROUGHT UP!?!?
+JetSetDex Nobody outside of the US knows it (yet).
+thunderpeel2001 I live in the US and I'd never heard of it.
+Arkatox I never said everyone in the US knows it.
If mayonnaise left out on the counter for 4 months was a human being
I love this guy so much! Thanks Joss for his immensely entertaining creations.
Naila Zahin
I'm sure he loves you too, Dear.
There's some good TV shows, a lot of ones that aren't, but with the movie lineup that's been building up I'd say that movies are becoming more and more light years ahead of TV shows. There's some really old movies that have had much better writing than what TV shows have been made to offer in the last century, and those old movies can be better than reading the novels in many ways. Movies will be booming to whole new levels in just a few years to far surpass the collected past few decades of movies. A lot of movies before there was sound in picture are still good and better in some ways with writing quality. Older movies with sound are good like Gone With the Wind, and God Father movies. There's good 1970s movies, I can get tired of the style of 1990s movies and modern (even 1980s movies), and going back to 1970s and before because there was a lot less distractions and people communicated more verbally and visually, took their time doing so, there's more going on in the moment even if it's not busy like it is now to have a story moreso but it wasn't just of what's going on in a jump the shark fashion. 1980s movies got away from that somewhat, but they have a lot of very memorable movies for different reasons you didn't see in the 1990s and the next decade over. Older actors now in my opinion their best movies were in those days, while in the 1980s and even now they have what are considered some of the best modern movies with the best modern performances. The original Star Wars movies are a mixture of 1970s and 1980s style, but it didn't show the 1970s pacing like what I was talking about and is more like a series of 1980s movies.
i thought they could have asked him more interesting questions. hardly an intellectual powerhouse...still they are very young
Ah, one year ago... back when the world seemed like a (halfway) NICE place. *sigh* for the good ol' days.
OK, enough dicking around. It's time to bring Buffy back. Don't even bother mentioning the comics.
This interviewer is fucking hot.
What happened to you Joss
30:25
"...I love the *very* small part of me that's
decent."
He clearly loves every part of himself. Also, it seems like he might be overestimating the size of the part of him that's decent
One's own life and one's own troubles, that's where the best stories come from.
Doing Justice League was a horrible mistake
Zack Snyder's Justice League yes it was because he ruined what Zack Snyder did but if he made his own Justice League movie completely Joss Whedon I’m pretty sure it would be good
@Kieron Campion shut up you low-brow, nonsensical, piece of shit. I'm not reading your essay with problems that were most likely already solved in the Ultimate Cut. But all you do is complain, clown.
@@eljefe1892 no, if he wasn't able to make a good villian
imagine what Thanos could have been if he directed the next Avengers
@@adolfogarzachaires394 Yeah I think I was just giving Joss the benefit of the doubt but now that more stuff has come out, f*ck him.
That's a bird
well shucks. it's fascinating to watch this now and see how he was when he was still treated like the golden boy for nerds and feminists everywhere.
but now the biggest champion of feminism is now hated by feminists everywhere. like the ouroboros eating it's own tail.
Ultron...a little art movie?
Poor sensitive Joss Whedon.
+gorypleasure
That's what happens when you lay with SJW scumbags.
+Titus Orelius Given that he's explained many times that's not why he's taking a break, the only SJW scumbags are the ones who keep laying into "SJW"s for no reason other than because they have a chip on their shoulder.
kwanarchive
Yes the timing was all a big coincidence. Thank you for your input SJW Scumbag.
Titus Orelius Yes, coincidences happen, SJW idiot who sees conspiracies everywhere.
kwanarchive
Is that the new tactic? You morons trying to take the SJW label and use on your critics? That doesn't even make sense. Pathetic.
The way he talks about revivals is literally what Twin Peaks The Return was.
NNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDD!!!
8:24 Yes yes yes!!!!! that's perfect Russo/Whedon hand transmission))
A1 (Whedon) - WS ( Russo) - A2 (Whedon) - CW ( Russo)
There have to be some good qualities to joss whedons character otherwise why would anyone work with him - ever?
Maybe they needed jobs where others were just over him at this point.
can;t believe he went to oxford- aren't those kids over-privileged enough?!?
HEY MR JOSS, HAVE YOU READ A NEWSPAPER LATELY?? HOW ABOUT LISTENED TO AN ALTERNATE MEDIA NEWS SITE?? WELL YOU MIGJT FIND SOME REALLY GOOD FACTS THERE, JUST SAYIN. YOUR STUFF IS OLD, YOUR OPIONIONS ARE OLD.. YOU HOWEVER ARE NOT , AND NEVER WILL BE OLD!!! LOOK AT THE FACTS THROUGH BLIND EYES... YOU MAY SEE SOMETHING NEW!!
LOVE YOUR WORK!!!
"Feminism"
Still haven't learned your lesson Josh?
+Titus Orelius Joss is the best and feminism is important.
+Spike Pratt it is not important in the west
Yes,it is.
Spike Pratt please elaborate
Spike Pratt
Feminism in the West has been corrupted by radicals and turned into a hate movement that is Toxic to gender equality efforts.
What is with this accent.
You mean Joss Whedon's?
Self hate most likely.....
This interviewer sucks. Stuffy, humourless, git.
wtf, interviewer was awesome, obviously a fan and funny to boot. Are you watching a different video?
The beta-male MC goes straight in with the _"I'm a privileged cis-gendered and hence apologetic male and I have to ask you for our sisters in bondage [weak fist in the air]. Why haven't you incorporated more empowered women in your movies?"_
One of the myths of identity politics, or a deliberate strategy of cultural Marxist subversion, is that members of one group cannot identify with members of another group. I've met many geek girls who love certain male lead characters and don't feel remotely alienated, excluded, resentful or underrepresented. However, evoking these feelings in all people is exactly what cultural Marxism intends.
Valelacerte By that same token shouldn’t men react the same way to female characters?
I boycott any project Joss Whedon is in. I don't fund abusers.
Quit wasting your time.
I’m amazed by the people here think he is a so called DIRECTOR/PRODUCER! I mean everything he touches turns to 💩

Pity he didn't have the balls to show some respect to the venue by not dressing as if he just got up off his sofa. What a slimeball
