Hey Tangy, nice to see you again. I'm happy that nothing happened to your home this time. It was so bad the last time. Yes, be honest with yourselves about your pantry. If not, the only people it will hurt is you & your loved ones.
So glad you’re all safe and didn’t have much damage! Nice the neighbor let you have some wood! Every little bit helps! Excited for Stocktober, never heard of this collaboration!
Ohio was in a long term drought. Then we got 4" of rain and wild circular winds in 24 hours. 130,000 homes without power. We're wondering if the drought is back again. But with all the damage, we are nothing like NC and TN. Praying they find and rescue/recover everyone asap.😢🙏
So thankful y’all came through alright! God sure is good to us. We never even lost power either. So thankful. Also, thank you for the inspiration to get myself in gear lol. Love y’all ❤
I'm glad you guys survived the storm! I'm in Florida in the Big Bend area, where the eye went over. Luckily we live in the woods and not on the coast where it has decimated about 80% of homes and businesses. Our home was built to withstand a high cat 4 so we chose to stay. I can tell you 140 mph winds sound crazy!! I am thankful for my prep stock but definitely saw where I need to bulk it up.
I love Leisa channel as well as yours. I to need the encouragement to get in gear and start doing better with my pantry. Starting a new job in March and working 70 plus hours away from home each week has taken its toll. 💜
We need to restock as well. I’m a little concerned because our local stores are already out of toilet paper and other essentials with the beginning of the dock workers strike.
I definitely need to check up on our pantry. I just saw that there's a possibility of another system building in about the same location that Helene started.
Tangi, you could do a video of a grocery haul for canning the food to restock the pantry. So many people on various sites keep asking how to can food on a budget when you don't have a homestead. I notice they often say they don't have money to buy canned foods from the store. You're sooo good at budgeting for food. Just a thought, I know you're busy enough already. Lol.
Giiirrrlll, I got you beat 🤣 I have a path to my freezer in my pantry through all the boxes and jars because we've been so busy, just throwing stuff in there 🤣 we have 6 more large events planned to attend these next few Saturdays and then it's on like donkey Kong getting everything reorganized and put up! I can't stand it 🤦🏼♀️😂
Of those last dated, canned items open the cans and examine every seam for discoloration; around the bottom, around the top, a d down the side. If there is discoloration, it could be OK. Check the color, texture, and separation of the food its self; it should look like in-date food. Of course check the smell; maybe check it first. Consider veggie pitting (inground compost) with a good 4"-6" covering of soil given some of the chicken yard problems. If it were me and I had concerns, I would do it off to the side of the yard on the down hill edge of any rises. Wear gloves, sanitize any can opener or other utensils, and wash your hands well after.
For that salsa, consider putting a bunch of skinless chicken breasts in the crockpot, covering with salsa, and cooking on low for 8 to,12 hours. (Boneless, skinless chicken breasts work; thighs and legs need to be skinned and defatted although the bones are fine). Eat the flavor immersed chicken the first night with a Mexican rice and/ or other sides. Make tortilla soup out of the salsa or Mexican rice; optionally refridgerate or freeze and make later so you aren't eating the same thing every night of the week. Shred some of the chicken for the tortilla soup, to add to mixed green salads, etc... Optionally put some of the chicken into the salsa then freeze for use later.
Yes definitely, I'm canning beef tips today , not gonna trust the freezer method, we only eat this and good ground beef anyhow so no need to buy all the cow lol
I told Leisa in a recent video that TP 🧻 panic buying here in NE Ohio has already started with the Port strike that started today 😵💫😑 Like people really 🙄 Yes, always be prepared, but purchasing more than you will need so that others have none is wrong 😑
We are "suppose" to have 1 open and 2 closed large packs of tp after having to use kleenex one too many times. In 2020 just hours before panic tp purchases and rising prices, the other half happened to pick up a large pack to fulfill our 2+ pack expectation. We bought on and off when we had cash and happened across it for a while; we did give some of these purchases away to those in need. In mid '22 we began to restock our larder as an "inflation fighting " effort for "up to a year", came across what seemed to be a good tp price (within a week to a month, it was excellent price), amd over estimated our usage. Jan '24 we began to look at tp replentishment and bought "to last at least a year" in Feb; turns out those odd sized, larger packages were a pretty good deal despite the sticker shock. We are ready for the world to panic buy tp far better than in 2020!

Happy to see you all are ok. I think pantries are the first thing on many of our minds!

Love Leisa’s channel! It’s time to make sure we are set. Things are getting real.
Don’t forget toiletries and meds

Love that! I do have some video where I talk about it but it’s been a while since I’ve done one :)

LOL! Right? It’s maddening!
I’m so excited for this! I have no idea where to start and am so excited to follow along and learn! Thank you for sharing! ❤
I see you have a nice supply of rings and seals for canning up what’s needed, so that’s a good start. Stay safe, my friend. 😊from Canada 🇨🇦

The chickens will love the past date items. Where did you get the white storage containers ?
Amazon!
