    There’s a big difference between someone with a large number of animals who takes good care of them, and someone who has a large number of animals and does not. It’s clear that you’re someone who takes good care of them.

    👏👏👏 animal keeping is not a “one size fits all” hobby. You can have 3 pets and neglect them, or 100 pets and take care of them wonderfully.
    Support creators that take proper care of their animals, regardless of if that is 1 pet or 100+ pets.

    • @maddielubby
      @maddielubby 2 года назад +18

      I totally agree! My sis had 3 pets and she couldn't take proper care of any of them. I have 20+ pets (mostly adopted and I adopted 1 of my sis's 3 pets aka the most neglected 1, the other 2 given to my uncle) and I can proudly say that I take good care of all my pets. Their enclosures might just be a little bigger than "minimum" required size (my house is pretty small) but at least they are surely all healthy, active and happy. Ppl should know what's their limits. If you can't take good care of an animal till their last day on Earth, cos you're overwhelmed and whatsoever reasons that you need to rehome them later, then you should not keep pets. If you can't even take care of yourself, then you should never never never keep any other animal. I only support creators that really take care of their pets not just for the sake of creating videos to get likes or views then throw away or rehome their once called pets. Imo, quantity wasn't that important. What's important is quality. Oh I'm not a pet hoarder coz I've 20+ pets, most of my pets are rescued. Ive stopped adopting any coz I know my limits on how many can I take care of (& space limits) and I don't want rescue or adopt more and later on I'm overwhelmed (lol) and I can't give my best to my pets. And ppl, please adopt don't buy. And and, before you adopt/buy any animals, be sure you have done your "homework" & have enough $ standby aside in case of emergency.

      Why should breeders be held to a different standard? If anything, they are more complicit in the problem with the pet industry by mass producing consumable products and Snake Discovery absolutely doesn't provide a large number of their animals with enough space for the very reason that they have to have large quantities of them in order to be breeders with a profitable business. You guys are making excuses for a situation that is entirely induced by human materialism and profit driven motivations.

No matter the animals we keep, or the numbers, I’m proud to know PetTubers who truly love and care for their animals, like you and Maddie do. I love the passion you both have for your breeding projects, and I LOVE how much emphasis you’ve put on great animal care. What you keep, and in how many numbers will always be a source of debate for people when shared online, but I know your care is exquisite, and I know your dedication to being a responsible RUclipsr is also top notch. No matter what, we *should* be aware that we do have influencer, but as with all other content on RUclips, we don’t make decisions for others. Everyone should aim to keep only what they can afford to, whether that’s 1 animal or more.

    Not only did she “call out” breeders, or people that have multiple people taking care of the animals, and people with reptile zoos…. She “called out” an animal sanctuary (Adri rachelle, I might’ve spelt that wrong lol) so that’s what really threw me off. She made some good points, but proceeded to make her experience the only experience. I don’t make videos and have 50+ pets. You could go to almost any farm and they would have well over 50 animals if not over 100. This is a huge problem, but not with Tyler and those like him who keep their animals in amazing setups with enrichment for days. I wish she could have explained these issues without dragging random people into it who have nothing to do with the problem and purposely educate about the same issues. It just frustrates me. Yeah, I thought it was an odd point for her to make against the PetTube community. Having many pets and showing them to others doesn’t automatically encourage others to need many pets. The whole point of PetTube is to document everyone’s companions and share good information about them and their care, breeding, etc. As someone who did have many animals before my disability started, I always enjoyed the PetTube community, and there are many responsible PetTubers out there (the majority). I never had gotten the impression that PetTubers are encouraging what she was mentioning in her video. Not being able to have many animals now because of my disability’s symptoms, it’s fun to watch them all, as I can still enjoy something I can no longer do. If I didn’t have PetTubers to watch that document what they do, I’d likely be struggling a lot more to cope with my condition (as it is severally limiting and I have given a lot up). If anything, they help reinforce that pets are a large commitment, and that we should never get over our heads, as we are jeopardizing both the animals and our own well-being.

    I feel like her video had some really good points when you consider the average viewer who is possibly thinking of getting into pet keeping. I may be wrong but when I was watching I noticed she included thumbnails of fishtubers she's also collabed with, it felt like more of a random, non discriminatory array of thumbnails that would pop up in search results to not 'call out one inidividual'. yeah... i kinda feel like everyone took this way too personally. like how tyler popped off about the term 'animal hoarding' being used, at all in her video. hoarding runs in my family, so im really sensitive about that term too. but what she said wasnt wrong or offensive at all. there are a lot of channels on here who are lowkey encouraging animal hoarding, and others who genuinely are hoarding animals. you dont have to be diagnosed to have a disorder
      and as someone whos watched a fair bit of commentary content, i didnt feel like she was calling anyone out specifically with those thumbnails either. those are just the thumbnails that get the most clicks, which pettubers are well aware of, hence why they put "60+ animals!!!!" in their titles. regardless of how good your care is, the truth is that the vast majority of people cannot and/or will not take proper care of that many animals... most people barely care for the one and only pet they have. and by making videos that emphasize a large number of animals, you are inevitably going to encourage someone to buy another animal, and maybe another... and maybe another. but they take that risk, and even emphasize it in the titles for views.
      dont get me wrong, i love the idea of pettube. but as long as these people are filming themelves buying new animals, bragging about the numbers in their titles, and showing off exotic species that are far more complicated to care for than you could ever explain in a video, i cant reallly say that 'callout' video is wrong

What gets views are large numbers of animals, that makes people get large numbers of animals even when they can't care for them and the people with smaller collections are ignored. The average person cannot care for these numbers of animals yet these videos push those ideas, especially when most of the audience of these videos are kids and teens. No one was calling out any of the people in the thumb nails and we all know who cares for their animals and who don't. It's all blatantly obvious but it flew over their heads. All you your enclosures are above minimum size and we can see the dedication to having enrichment in every enclosure upgrade or pet room your video. What she's talking about is truly a huge issue, and it's sad that such a great opportunity to spread awareness was thrown away. It's unfair to generalize an ENTIRE group of people, especially people who work their asses off for their animals happiness and livelihood, just to be told THIS. I'm sure she wasn't trying to be hostile, but it comes off that way. I totally get using examples to illustrate your point, but would it be so hard to choose thumbnails from people who are actually apart of the problem? Tyler is not an "example" of animal hoarding, negligence, or promotion of animal hoarding. All of his videos exhibit excellent amimal care, his advice is always accurate, and like he said and showed he leaves disclaimers. Again, just really unfortunate that she wasted an opportunity to shine some light on actual issues within the community, and I hope that she'll improve upon that in the future because her videos are amazing.

    Thank you. I've followed Jennie for years but her video definitely rubbed me the wrong way and I believe she owes some folks a clarification/apology, at least if she wants to maintain that she isn't personally attacking them. Even if it was inadvertent on her part, she was throwing shade on a lot of folks who have exceptional care and do a lot in terms of education. Also, I understand that there's a lack of understanding from the general public about how hands-off pet reptiles are (in that they don't need frequent handling and interaction.) But Jennie has reptiles herself, and has very recently talked about how much less stressful they are in terms of their needs than aquariums. A lot of the channels she's made examples of are predominantly reptile keepers.

    I agree 100% with you, Tyler. I've been watching you and a lot of other "PetTubers" for years since I started keeping snakes back in 2015. I only have 2 because it's all I have the room and money for currently, and I've always watched you and other "50+ PETS!" people and just been in awe by how you fit that many animals into your daily life, how you keep track of who needs what. I have NEVER thought, "I need to get all those pets right now." Maybe years in the future when I am stable and have the ideal lifestyle/job for keeping more, but I've always been one to educate friends on why they shouldn't get pets like chameleons, iguanas, and other more difficult/high maintenance species because I personally believe people should start easy with a cornsnake or leopard gecko before they start getting into the trickier species. Education is so important in this hobby and I think your channel (along with many others like the ones mentioned in this video) does a great job at that, which is why I keep watching these videos! I want to know how people manage so many animals at a time without feeling overwhelmed or stressed, so that if I ever get to a point in my life where I can responsibly keep a "collection," I have a great reference for time/money management.
    It does very much feel like you and those other RUclipsrs are being directly called out and it really isn't fair at all to say that you're not giving your animals the care they need and deserve just because you have a lot. I've seen people (some of my own friends) impulse buy pets and exotics as a coping mechanism and I've seen their downfall as pet owners (rehoming, animals getting sick and/or dying unexpectedly), and what you have going on is far from that.
    Also what isn't being mention is: a lot of these channels, like you and Maddie, Snake Discovery, etc. aren't taking care of your animals entirely by yourself. I imagine you and the RUclipsrs with roommates/partners/etc. probably share the work in many ways too, which would make it even easier to care for a larger number of animals. Not everyone has the same situation going on so it's very unfair to make a blanket statement like that.

Just waiting till i move and can get enclosures set up first and bioactive going good before getting my pet.
    She definitely called you guys out, and its really sad cause i use to watch her videos when she was solid gold.

    I'm So Happy that with all that was said you are still going ahead with your video and not shying away from it because there are some people that are ignorant to what actual proper husbandry and pet care is weather it be 1 animal or 100 animals and your right she should have made awareness regarding her own experience in not being able to handle the amount of animals she kept and for viewers to be mindful of getting animals from HER OWN experience not trying to out everyone else as not being able to do what she couldn't.

    after watching Jennie’s video and seeing who’s thumbnails she included, I was waiting for someone to make a response. Pettube introduced me to crested geckos in 2017 and I just recently got one in February and she’s now my ESA, she brings me so much joy and I’m so happy all of these wonderful creators introduced me to the species and helped in my research about getting one! I also know I would not be capable of caring for 50+ animals, I’m content and capable of caring for the 6 I have!

    You and a lot of other pet RUclips's showed me crested geckos and I fell in love with them and I spent years learning how to properly take care of them and In 2020 I finally got my 1st crested gecko and I cannot be happier yeah I got a second one and that's it for now And I want to share the love that i get for these geckos And probably educate people on them . Thanks to you another pet youtubers I wouldn't be where I am right now with my pet. I find the “all my pets” videos to be a remedy for when I wish I could have more

    Even with all the editing and what RUclipsrs try to present as reality, it's easy to tell who does and who doesn't take care of their animals. Not only if they're taking care of their animals, but who is helping to promote the correct care for certain animals. From everything I've seen from you, you do a great job at both.

      Ugh I couldn’t even finish watching her video I was so enraged by her stance. And the fact that she didn’t even ask permission to “call you out” by using your thumbnail. It’s scummy. It’s an opinion but it’s scummy to me. She’s had way too many animals before and didn’t necessarily admit that in the past when all of a sudden she would just not have them anymore… she was rehoming them because she couldn’t handle as many anymore. And that’s fine. But then she went and got more of the same animals later. So 🤷‍♀️ what do you mean you can’t care for so many when you literally just replaced them later?!

    • @entitysexotics3884
      @entitysexotics3884 2 года назад +6

      Sorry I keep commenting on my own comment but it just really irks me. I used to love her content but this “holier than thou” stance she’s taken really really bugs me. She’s been that person incapable of handling what animals she’s had, and then thoughtfully rehomed them (good choice) and then gotten more of the same animals and then repeated the process. She might deny that but before she relocated I saw her fricking rehoming ads at my local pet store. So…like it’s fine to have an opinion. It’s great to know when you’re in over your head and rectify the situation. But to move cross country and repeat the situation, and then stand on a soap box and call out “animal hoarding” which isn’t what the people she screenshotted are doing- it’s scummy. I’m not sure if I’ll stay subscribed to her tbh. I think she’s digging for some clout - she disappeared off RUclips without much explanation two years ago when she was going on her rehoming frenzies and I think she’s trying to clickbait some views back. 🙄 ok rant over.
      Tyler. Maddie. Emma. Everyone else I know and sub to in those heinous screenshots- you’re great. You’re not hoarders. You’re not in over your heads. You’re not using your animals for views. You don’t need me to tell you that. The point she tried to make flopped hard.

      I wouldn't call it bragging - I'd say protecting their reputation. The reptile community are really really harsh on each other, so a lot of reptile keepers, including myself, feel the need to tell everyone that we're adequate or very good reptile keepers to avoid the scathing criticism.

    I think using certain thumbnails was not to call out specific youtubers, just to bring awareness to people who feel the need to purchase xy amount of animals while taking those youtubers as an inspiration. Only because that one person can take care of 100+ animals, doesn’t mean everyone can. And those thumbnails may lead to false assumptions about keeping a lot of animals in general.

    I only recently started following Jenny like a month ago when I stumbled upon her "Feeding all my reptiles and amphibians" video thanks to the youtube algorithm.
    But I was also very taken aback by that video she posted about "hoarding" a bunch of animals for views on youtube. All the things you said in this reaction video are on point. Her original message of not taking on more pets than you can handle and making sure what animals you do have have the best care was good. But she definitely went about it the wrong way.

    I think her video would have been more effective if she hadn't included any thumbnails from other creators. though the video probably got a lot more attention because of the controversy (not that that was necessarily her reason for doing it), I think people are more focused on defending the individuals she included rather than her message, which could apply to any PetTuber or pet owner

    It’s almost as though she expects the viewers to be extremely dumb? Or have the impulse control of a three year old. Many viewers of channels much like yours are already extremely educated in animal care, and simply watch for the enjoyment of seeing animals. I really just felt as though the viewers of ‘pettube’ were been spoken about as though we were simply toddlers, who could only be impressed by high numbers and easily persuaded to go and purchase by simply seeing an animal. Most people won’t do that, sure there’s the dumb few, but as I said most people who watch videos titled ‘Meet my pets (50+)’ are interested in seeing the animals, not shopping for their next pet. It’s not a bad thing that I’m generally more interested in youtubers who have a more diverse range and higher numbers, I’d only watch if they were all properly taken care of and the youtuber would only get money if the people who were viewing the video were happy with the care. It’s a 50/50 partner ship, interested viewers watching well taken after animals. I don’t see the issue.

    I discovered you through Snake Discovery, but was subscribed to Solid Gold for years, and I appreciate this perspective.
    TBH I didn’t actually notice who’s thumbnails were used as examples in Jennie’s video until you showed them here, and I have some thoughts on WHY she used ones she did: by saying she didn’t want to call out the channels addressed in her vid, she still wanted examples to show and maybe used thumbnails of channels that this topic DIDN’T apply to... had she used thumbnails of “bad” pettubers, she’d be literally calling them out... we all know they exist, and we know at least ONE channel by name, which I won’t name.
    That’s my perspective, we all have unique views!

    My mom was an animal hoarder. She had three kids to take care of. We lived in a house that was falling apart and needed food stamps and donations to scrape by. Yet she somehow kept managing to collect animals. When we moved out she abandoned them. It was awful for the animals and traumatizing for us. That's why I love watching your videos, it's like reteaching myself that, yes, people CAN actually be kind to animals and not treat them like possessions. People need to know what true animal hoarding is before they casually toss out accusations.

    I think "All my animals!!!" videos are actually one of the best ways to showcase who the responsible owners truly are. RUclipsrs choose what footage their viewers see, and none of them will intentionally show neglect or mistreatment. But while it's easy to hide poor care standards when only one pet/enclosure is placed in front of the camera at once, it's much harder with a full room tour... and the more animals there are, the harder it is to fake. Moreover, PetTubers who cycle through animals just for views (which Jennifer cites as a problem) would be exposed when their viewers realize how many animals previously featured on the channel are no longer in their collection.

It’s sad because I do feel like that video was aimed toward people like you, Maddie, or Cataleah who all take amazing care of their pets and love them deeply.
