Please stop calling them "Universal Background checks". That's too broad for the average republican and Independent voters to automatically agree with it. Use "Violent History checks" instead. It's easier for republican and Independent voters to identify and agree with -- violent background checks doesn't really need an explanation. Small changes like this may not seem like much, but psychologically, it's very impactful. A republican will have a lot harder time arguing that someone with a "Violent History" should be allowed to buy firearms. "Universal Medicare" is another phrase that is too ambiguous for many to relate to it. Neither of those two words are relatable -- same for "Medicare for All"-- it has negative connotations to it because of the word Medicare. Hell, even something like a "No Premium/No deductible Healthcare" option is more appealing psychologically.

I'm a lifelong independent voter. I've voted for both parties in the past. After seeing the hard right turn repubs have taken in the last few years guarantees that I will never vote for a republican again.

By Passing laws which require them to report all abortion info. Thats the bigger picture. The government shouldn't be in our doctors office.
Recent laws in Some Red states authorize paying bounties to random people who report abortion doctors and their patients. The GOP is deputizing the God-bothering busybodies into agents of the state.
There pretty much always is a nurse or other assistant in the exam room, especially if doctor is male.
Mandatory if any type procedure is done - sterile field requires an assistant.
Then, there's office staff, perhaps lab tech who will almost inevitably find out.
It's not a procedure that lends itself to just doctor/patient & that lack of assistance in illegal procedures contributed greatly to post abrtn infx rates which resulted in sterility or mortality pre Roe.
Because republicans don't want medicaid or medicare to pay for abortions.
