the concept is to expect the unexpected. e.g, at the beginning you didn't expect that he is blind, but he is. you think the girl is in trouble, but it turns out that she is rehearsing lines. when they get to the academy, you see his hand reach out and expect to him to stroke her face, but he doesn't. and, of course, you expect that she's breaking up with him, but she was only rehearsing lines, (bonus, and you expect that he didn't know that, but he did -"no, I see you")
I lost count how many times I had watched this segment + twice in the theater when it was out. I haven't seen anyone so creative to tell a love story such as this
I consider this short to be Twyker at his best. There's something so gripping about his portrayal of modern restlesness, and it fits so damn well in this little story about a couple's casual misunderstanding.
Some of the elements he uses are quite familiar when you know Run, Lola Run, e.g. that old school phone, the soundtrack, the editing. Love this short so much and wish it was a feature film.
I think reducing the movie to '"their love being sound" is a bit short. It's partly about "Thomas listen" - "tu criais" - but at the and: "Are you listening to me? - No. I see you." It's actually about a misunderstanding, that he came to solve in the moment he thought she'd leave him.
@liranzojohn191 He thought that Francine was breaking up with him. Meanwhile, he tells the story in short about how he thought his relationship was coming to an end. But it turns out that she was only practicing her lines.
Please do share more of this type of films if you know them in the comments. reply to mine This is one of the best movies I watched, better because its short I can share it with people.
Every other Tom Tykwer movie, especially 'Run Lola Run,' has a similar vibe, though 'Run Lola Run' is not a short film. The short film 'Sign,' made in 2008, has a similar feel and an amazing ending, with music that's almost identical. Check out Patrick Hughes - Signs (short film)
The actor is sooo cute and handsome, but he is really blind, it's such a pity:((((( L'acteur est si sympa et beau, mais il est vraiment aveugle, c'set très triste:(((((
Malick Balouch Hi, i know you said it 7 years ago, BUT I HAVE A PRESENTATION ABOUT THIS TOMORROW IN FRENCH AND I CANT EVEN SPEAK IT NOR UNDERSTAND THIS VIDEO, can you help me ?!?!? Like IMMEDIATELY IM STRESSING OUT
I don’t get the interpretation.... thus that show how time past in a relationship or how insecure we are because we’re afraid of losing each other??? Idk there are so many things in my mind but idk .. and at the end. Why is he saying “I see you”.. yeah he did das gestures at the beginning too, but why is he saying this? Of course, I like it! It was overwhelming.. the story, the sound/camera etc. ...
I think it's because in the beginning she asks "I'm rehearsing, can't you see?" and he says no. But then after being together for months when she asks "can you hear me?" on the phone, he realizes that he truly understands her as a person and says "I see you."
He realized he messed up because he only cared about his exams. And when he thinks she's breaking up with him, he asks himself why and finally understands he didn't treat her well and compares himself to the pimp that locked her in the basement. "I see you" means he finally realized why she was always yelling at him and he wants to change
It shocks me that so many people are doing essays and projects on this vignette... especially when you consider the fact that it is probably one of the weaker stories in Paris Je'Taime... not that it isn't good; just comparatively.
This is stupid. It exists in a piece of film, but it doesn't have the slightest possibilty to happen in the real world. There are no soundtracks to listen to in real life stories. There are no stories like this one in real life that can pick the good side of a relationship. It's fiction. It's not reality. You can watch it all the times you want. The characters will always be fictional.

Thanks! now I understand it better! you really saved my life lol!
Can we all just pay homage to the fact that Tykwer made a lot of his music for his movies. He is so damn talented.
You are nice
I can't remember how many times I watched this, but I still love this story ❤️. It's not easy to find such creative ways in movies

I cried.
me too
me too, over never having had what they had (in the movie. does it even exist in real life?)
me too, because that was absolutely trash, I´m just about to hang myself.
One the best short films ever made. Pure early 2000's cinema. The momentum. Such sweetness its heart. The relief when you find they are okay.
Love the scene its hard to find a movie with a deep meaning for that sentiment we call love. Love so complicated and mysterious...
You are beautiful 🤩
Thank you.
Jetaime
1:39 : no I hear you
6:53 : no I see you ❤

I consider this short to be Twyker at his best. There's something so gripping about his portrayal of modern restlesness, and it fits so damn well in this little story about a couple's casual misunderstanding.

Amazing filmmaking. One of my favorites from the movie. Next to Alexander Payne's.
J’ai pleuré
Ça déchire le cœur.
Ça me fait penser à mon vécu, ce n’est pas pareil. Ça pourrait être le 19eme sketch de ce film.
This short saved my life.

Sound is the main concept of their relationship..thats how they communicate

Why did this make me cry like a little baby? Fuck’s sake 😭

No
Tu est Thomás,et Je suis Nathalée
Sounds like a FAUVE song

ilikesmokingrocks maybe it's not so weak after all.
I agree....Alexander Payne segment is way the best
That's an unfair comparison. I just think the way Tykwer's style in this particular segment was very relatable for... Dating and misunderstandings
NaNI
anyone here cuz of the damn test?
Heii Abi Klasse
this does not happen in real life
hä
With this shit dialogue from Natile Portman I thought I was watching the prequels
" Don't you know I'm American, that's why I'm stupid enough not to realize that you are blind "
LOL JK Yanks ;)
