      I sure did. 3 was Peak. 3 was Life. It had an end to a trilogy (and I didn’t feel bad about it, although someone was cutting onions). It had a Forge, it had weapons (some you could dual wield), it had vehicles and a tank that can beat EVERYTHING (117). #finishthefight

    This really does put into perspective how much Halo used to innovate. Looking at what each game from the original trilogy brought kinda shows how Infinite currently just isn't doing enough. Aside from the lack of content, it's also the lack of focus for the community at the moment. I'm hopeful for the future of it though. This was a fun watch

      idk, I was playing PC games back then, never had an xbox, and I would argue that halo is just unreal tournament for xbox... There really was nothing special about it other than it was the one on console that got closer to PC at the time. I think I mainly never cared for halo because its so slow.

    Halo's brand is becoming way to similar to Sonic the Hedgehog. The original games were great, the new ones were awful, the return to their roots was good but left people hungry for more. Meanwhile some people start saying Halo was never actually good and classic fans clash with modern ones.

    Halo is my ALL TIME favorite game/series. What made the original Halo trilogy so awesome for ME was the mystery and grandiose of Halo and the Forerunners. I loved not knowing all the history about an advanced alien species thousands of years from the past. Now it seems all the mystery and mystique is gone from the Halo franchise…

    • @vaniellys
      @vaniellys 2 года назад +3

      I totally agree with you ! As a fan of both history and science-fiction, the mysteries of the Forerunners and the beauty of their architecture was one of the main reasons I fell in love with Halo. I really hate how 343 revealed all the details about them (and also made a retcon that completely breaks the story).

    I've only ever played the campaign of CE. From the time me and my friends started having LAN parties to discovering XBC, I've been multiplayer-only.
    IMO you can boil down why Halo 1-3 were so successful to 2 things: lack of other really good console games, but more importantly the games were designed first and foremost to be FUN. CE multiplayer was added to be a fun, but balanced, party game style mode for people to play together. The competitive scene grew out of this, with tweaks to make the games as balanced as possible for a competition setting.
    H5 and Infinite seems to be taking the opposite approach, where they have designed the game to feel competitive no matter what you are playing. They are missing that fun aspect that Splitgate has seemed to have captured. They went so far as to hire a pro team to help design the game based on an esport first. The best thing that can happen to Halo now is 343 give the HCS reigns back to MLG (now that MS owns them) and let 343 be ONLY FOCUSED on the fun aspect. If something they add isn't competitive, who the fuck cares? Leave it out of ranked mode, it is a very simple solution.

  • @BlazenWrath

    Very good video! I do think the campaign has value too. In particular H3 and Reach because both games have skulls and score/time options to add some replay value for some and in Reach’s case that had challenges which kept people going back to the campaign to complete campaign specific challenges.

    I'll agree to a degree that campaign isn't for everyone. I do it bc I haven't had good enough wifi to run online for the longest time. The fact of the matter is, across all the Halo games, including the original trilogy, there has always been this feeling of... Straightforwardness with it. It never got to the point where you had to modify your weapons to maximize damage, or aim down irons to get those headshots. It was pure, unadulterated skill, refined with time, to create some of the greatest moments of all time for those generations. It made it the lead in its time, and could have been. To me personally, though, when they implemented the iron sights, I felt like they tried to copy CoD too much. The recoil-type systems with their weapons worked fine

    For starters, they didn't really have the same overly saturated market of shooters. We gotta take off those rose tinted glasses and concede that CoD poached Halo of it's fanbase. Remember the fileshare in reach? There were tons of photos saying reach will cause the downfall of CoD. Halo 3 and Reach were both super popular still, but at that time, MW2 dominated the playerbase. Back then, Halo was considered the "kiddie" game.
    Keep in mind, I can't stand CoD. I prefer arena shooters over twitch, but there's no doubt that CoD did pull ahead at that time

    Halos 1-3 were unique, at the time anyway, sci-fi shooters didn't really exist outside DOOM and Star Wars back then, and multiplayer wasn't considered to be much of a concept until Halo 2's era. The reality is Halos 1-3 had the benefit of being some of the first games of their time to do something unique, even Reach managed to be a console game with an insane map making tool, whereas Halo 3's Forge was cool, but a bit underwhelming. Halos 4 - Infinite just chased trends so naturally they didn't get the limelight anywhere near as much as the OG trilogy because "Been there, done that."

  • @csvanderkieft
    @csvanderkieft 2 года назад

    What I think makes the bungie halo's so good is because they were made with the mindset of "lets make it as fun as possible". While 343 has the "lets make it as cool as possible" mindset and that makes a big difference. That's why 343 is lacking with every new title. The core isn't fun because they haven't even grasped the fundamentals on why halo became so great.

    "rather than chasing trends, Halo was the trend being chased" At 3:26 that defines what 343i is lacking when it comes to Halo and to why Halo cant and wont come back to the front of gaming. 343i has yet to attempt to create a Halo game that doesn't chase after what the competition is doing. 343i has yet to look at the features and content provided in H3 and Reach and deliver a full package. Regardless if u are a fan of their direction mechanically, I think we all can agree that each release under 343i provides less and less content.

    Amazing video, although I am sad that this video is mainly about PvP (but I understand why). I discovered Halo thanks to its coop campaign, and I never had Xbox Live, so it's an entire part of Halo that is almost foreign to me.
    Stuff like the Plasma Rifle was made for PvE first since it was designed to be shot by, not shooting with. And the way the Covenant works was amazing : I think it's one of the first games to use a behaviour tree for enemy AI ! Also, each campaign was an amazing sci-fi adventure story, which is why nerds like me who grew up with Stargate, Star Wars or Star Trek fell in love with the saga. Everytime a friend came to visit me, we played one or two levels together and it was amazing !
    Halo's PvE mechanics are so great, I believe that if Forge allowed to create custom missions and campaigns, the community would be as creative and productive as Warcraft III's or StarCraft II's.
    Bungie and 343i always focused more on PvP (casual or esport), but nowadays when people want a PvP shooter, they go to CoD, Battlefield, Counter Strike or Battle Royales. Apart from DOOM, there's no "popular" pure PvE FPS. But with its unique sandbox (weapons, equipments, vehicles), 4 enemy factions (Covenant/Banished, Flood, Sentinels/Prometheans and maybe Endless coming up) and beautiful art direction, I that's where I think Halo can shine and stand apart from the crowd.
    Right now, my biggest hope for Infinite is coop, campaign expansions, and a casual PvE mode that works like Starcraft II's Coop (not waves like Firefight, but instead a 'best-of" missions from the all the campaigns with semi-random elements for replayability).

  • @as7river
    @as7river 2 года назад +3

    I'll say it plain. What made Halo great back then? Honestly? The people that made it. The brilliant minds, working together, to create the Universe THEY loved. Remove the people that created that Universe, and you can make a great game, but it's not going to be Halo. The original vision, the inspiration that drove them to create that Universe is no longer there. There's nothing 343i can do to "fix" Halo, because they don't want to create that kind of game themselves. We're never going to get a new game that delivers the excitement and joy that we had with Halo 1, 2 and 3 because the people behind Halo today don't want to make that experience. Period. I have no expectations of what Halo Infinite may deliver because Infinite is just Microsoft milking the franchise, it's on life support. They don't want to lose the revenue of the brand, that's it. There's no creative drive, there's no bunch of nerds making a game about a badass green soldier that kicks alien ass while exploring a bizarre strange world to orgasmic orchestral music. All of that is gone.

    To me the multiplayer across the originals were good because I didn't have to chuck money for fuckin armors that should've been in the base game to begin with let alone a color system. You could have 200+ hours in infinites multiplayer and beat the campaign on legendary with skulls on and still look like a clone of every other newbie f2p player because that's how greedy they got to monetize the multiplayer customization mechanics, gone are the days of the credit system and open level of variety and customization of reach.

    The real problem with Halo is people are basically tired of same thing every game. Halo needs a new casual multiplayer experience mode where its 50v50 with squads of 5 players and using the Halo Lore Universe for weapon damage, game changing armor, equipment, armor abilities and loadouts. Something completely different then the arena multiplayer that people from Halo and other FPSG can enjoy playing.
    Halo has such a strong community and ever going Universe. So there's no reason to put limits on the Multiplayer experience for the same experience every game where human stuff is OP and everything else that's non human is pointless to use. This logic needs to change for the future of Halo to be successful so people outside of Halo can come to love this amazing game.

    Really like your video the problem that you have with your video you're trying to go over a broad and very non-conflictive way of putting it but you kind of Miss The Mark with a couple items of discussion such as when call of duty Black ops is above Halo 3 during that time I talked to so many people on Xbox LIVE while playing call of duty that just said it's old so it must be bad and I'm not exaggerating when I say that this is stuff that has been said to me with honesty a lot of people truly did believe that old means bad which is not true but because of cod and a couple other franchises yearly releases it started getting people into that mindset not saying that it was their fault it just started turning into that unintentionally everything needed to be new every year and Halo was not just gameplay it was map design weapon placement vehicle placement spawns flag placement bomb placement skull placement it was any objective the fucking traffic counts were moved around and it changed gameplay when I played Halo 3 flags placement changed by a couple feet and it made huge difference in gameplay with each update.sadly Halo fell down the same path as what a lot of games now are falling into.change without seeing what it will do to the gameplay battlefield adding specialist and completely destroying the entire core of battlefield.call of duty completely destroying map design and not changing anything else assassin's Creed going to an open world style game and trying to clone far cry and completely getting rid of stealth mechanics in favor of action it's not just one thing that makes games be games it's is its entirety we can't focus on one specifically one part of a game and just copy it and put it into another a lot of games tried to copy Halo and did it wrong two weapon limit a lot of games did it wrong free flow maps a lot of games did it wrong three lane maps a lot of games did that wrong I could go on and on about this for days I played Halo 1 when I was 4 years old stop playing Halo at Halo 4 because of one thing that completely killed it the class system a copy of an inferior game formula and change nothing else about the game design Halo 4 had great maps fun weapons decent vehicles an okay armor customization but the class system killed game design when two of the five weapons were broken if you spawned with it the bolt pistol and the dmr everybody ran it it broke the game and killed what Halo was about weapon variety and weapon matchups innovation was not the key to success of Halo it was game balance and map design was the key to success in the multiplayer that's what made halos multiplayer so good with each iteration they just kept adding to that and improving it. that's what you missed in your video you did a good job you have a good day.👍😉
