- Join us while walk you through soldering the brandnew #Plinky touch surface #synthesizer! It’s designed by mmalex, both standalone and #Eurorack compatible and available as a full #DIY kit through Thonk.
Plinky looks and sounds amazing - it's a fullblown stereo synth voice with lush reverb and delay, which can function as a standalone desktop box or built into the rack. Its CV control and audio line in allows it to double up as a touch controlled effects processing box.
So follow along as we guide you step by step through the electronic components and soldering techniques needed to complete a happy, gleefully bleeping Plinky. We've include chapters with this video, so you can easily skip between sections, re-watch or pick up where you left off.

Super tutorial...thx ! Still waiting for my Plinky 🎼
Hey! You are welcome and thank you! We hope you will get it soon and have fun building it and playing with it! It's fun for sure.
I never knew this existed. Wow I want to build this!!!
It is definitely a fun instrument! Alex did a great job with the development of plinky! We like it very much and are happy to have it in our setup.
Expensive ✌️
They might be now on the used market, as the kits haven't been made for a while. But once we get new kits out to Thonk, Plinky will be available for the regular kit price again.
@@MakingSoundMachines Thanks for your reply. What would be the normal cost for this kit please?
Wow. I really wish they were still selling these kits.
We will help Thonk make Plinky kits, so they will be available again later this year.
They are up for grabs now! I managed to secure one via the waiting list, but you can order now for a Fall '24 shipment!
I watched this whole video and I dont even have my own Plinky.
Hey! That is very nice to hear, thank you so much, we are very happy. Will you get a plinky?
@@MakingSoundMachines yes, I'm subscribed for when more are available!
@@loremipsom224 Exact same spot.
love that vid .)
Hey, i know im late to the party, but would anyone have a good link to purchase one of these for United States residents? It would be most appreciated.
Hello! Get a kit from Thonk, full V3 kits are available here and they feature USB-C, TRS MIDI and a much easier build than you see here.

You can find the new build guide here, LEDs come pre-soldered for the front panel now and you don't have to solder the headers or screen anymore.

trimming pin lengths???....I'm out. DIY ain't for me...
Hey! So the good news is: On the new Version of Plinky (blue PCB) this step isn't needed any more. Alex, the creator of Plinky, found other parts where no trimming is necessary. Also no SMD soldering is required in the new version, because the LEDs are soldered already!
For us building DIY kits is very much fun and we learn a lot. And it's the best feeling in the world, when something you built yourself works.
@@MakingSoundMachines My Plinky is just on it's way to me from Thonk and this news is great as I have not DIYed before :)
@@mattbrown-mb Awsome, have fun building and playing! And also congratulations for starting DIYing
