2 of my children still live at home age 19(soon to be 20) and a 22 year old..i also drive them both to work..one has a car(needs repairs) but they each are required to pay 20.00 a week for work transportation as well as 100.00 each per month for 'rent' to cover their water and electric usage..they purchase their own groceries and have full access to a fridge that they share (i have a fridge for mine and hubby's groceries) they cook their own meals and wash their own laundry...this gives them the ability to save, but teaches them the requirements and responsibilities of learning to live on their own.

Just a thought: Maybe consider going to the Food Bank in the town you work. If possible, co-ordinate your schedule to be off work when the Food Bank is unfolding then you can stop off on your way home. A long time ago, for about a month, we traveled to 3-4 different food banks since we had almost no $ for food. I'll never forget that time. Blessings! :)

Good video! Definitely a learning curve and tweaking things along the way. Every stage of life has variations of this. You have a lot of variables at once going on!

It is hard trying to get things under control when routines get changed. When you have kids it is hard to have a normal anything. A “new normal “ is not a normal for long because as children get older everything changes again. I know it has to be so hard for your family but harder for you as the person who is responsible for budgeting, scheduling, cooking, cleaning, and being there for everyone. I have been there many times and I am still the caretaker of my husband’s health. He has serious health issues. Dealing with doctors, procedures and medications is time consuming and financially frustrating. Maybe, have a huge family meeting. Lay all the issues out there and ask for suggestions to help the whole family to help you get some kind normalcy back into all of your lives. I.will keep you in my thoughts. ❤❤❤❤

I hope your husband improves and get well soon. I had to do the same with my husband he passed at 68 October of 2022 from brain cancer. It took a toll on the whole family physically / financially.. sorry your family too is having to experience this😔

The scrubs that you bought will last for years. I’m a nurse and they last forever. I think that you should have done a low spend month since you had to buy work clothes, food for work and getting used to a new work/life balance.

Good morning my beautiful friend ❤What is conflicting with them paying for gas? My friend had older kids working and she had them choose a bill and they would pay it every month plus gas for the car to get to work and half of whatever was left they had to put it into the bank for a savings account! These things teach your children about life! I
I always fail at no spend as well but I blame it on my husband! Just kidding! I will tell him I want to do a no spend and if he needs anything I need to know now! And 3 days into the no spend he is like I need....So we go to get whatever it is and end up getting other things because we already broke the rules lol!

Maybe you should consider asking your older children to help out more this will be beneficial for them when they move out and go on their own and also help you I don't know what hours your daughter or husband works but is it possible that she or your husband could go to some of these food pantries while you sleep?

Kids should help with gas. especially if they are driven to work.

Hello! It's been a roller coaster at work and then my daughter has been retaking her driving stuff which is another few hours out of my day. I'm just trying to figure out a schedule. Thanks for reaching out!

Whatever days you're off. Look at the sales ads and plan your meals before going to the grocery store. If it's available, do pick up or have it delivered. It will save your sanity.
As another sub posted, maybe your husband and oldest daughter can pick up the groceries. Plus, go to the food pantries that fit in the schedule.

This is not sustainabl imho. To work one 24 hr shift per week is really the max. You only drive to work once and back, AND it needs to be a sleep shift, which per Federal law, means you would need to get at least 5 hrs of sleep per night being a Companion Caregiver. Then you can schedule your work to be off on food bank days and you will not be paying as much taxes either and gas only driving to and from work, once. More time to save money too. It's great experience you are getting. Thanks for the update :) I am praying for you

Perhaps with third jobs experience that is something she can eventually transition into. Great idea!
