The way he was cracking drove me nuts. lol It was so needlessly risky. Best way is to snip the corners and use a flathead or something to "turn" it open. Just like you do it. You can wrap the top of the slab in tape or just cover everything with a towel to stop plastic flying all over.
That was my Mantle Ty cracked and I had no idea how he cracked slabs until I watched the video. Seemed a bit riskier than your way but if that's how he does it, so be it. Obviously, I completely trusted him to do it, but it certainly added to the drama!
Why doesn’t anyone just use a chop saw with a diamond tip fine tooth blade. And place a piece of blue painters tape over the area your are cutting to prevent chipping. You could crack them in less than 5 seconds.

Great video man. Definitely the preferred technique for a safer crack imo. I made a similar one referencing that same chasing cardboard video lol.
