as a german whos usually happy about the subtitles for english and japanese its very weird to read english subtitles for my own language :D
As someone who understands a decent bit of Japanese, I'm used to ignoring subtitles... but it took unreasonably long for my brain to remember I understand at least this much German, though :D
Happens to me when vtubers like Ironmouse or Reimu speak Spanish, I end up reading the EN subs anyway haha
Now you know what IDbro feel
@@GSK- lmao, same. And when I watch clips for EN that have Spanish subs, I still read the subs too!
I fluently speak german too, can confirm it feels so surreal watching this, understanding both the spoken language and the subtitles at the same time :o
I always love hearing english loan words in other languages, but "bonk" in the middle of a german sentence killed me
I know right! Relatable. Except for me, a German, it sounds quite cringe when most people do it 😂
"gebonken" should be normalized
Well "bonk" is just an sfx, it’s not exactly english, that works in german just as well because they’re so close to another
Meanwhile other cultures are acting like English codeswitching is the end of the world. Looking at you, Phillippines.
@@ajoajoajoaj What? I am a Filipino and I have no idea what you meant about us acting like it's the end of the world.

Who's Jerma? Sounds like the name of a psychopath
I’ve said it probably a dozen times in the last 3 months but I’ll say it again, there is a large intersection between vtuber and jerma watchers
maybe it's just for me, but Kiara sounds and is perceived completely differently when she speaks German and the same thing with Japanese, depending on the language, she changes the way she speaks and the timbre of her voice
It's not just for you, language is super tied into a human's brain, and when people switch language tons of stuff about how they communicate changes. Even things like body language will vary between a person's various spoken languages.

Maybe I'd be a better speaker if I had learned Italian while growing up. Anyways, if I use my hands, I can definitely see hand gestures being used while teaching Italian to the point that hand gestures are as much part of Italian as the words themselves.
It sound like always to me

It's funny someone designed a language very much like that. Personal pronouns and prepositions from Mandarin, non-personal pronouns from Japanese, conjunctions from Indonesian/Malay, adjectives from Hindi, verbs from Spanish, etc. Pretty neat idea for an international auxiliary language. Way better than all those Euroclones, it's a shame it fell into obscurity.

To be honest, never knew Jerma really existed. I thought he's just a primal construct of our minds that keeps haunting us as a hallucination that forms on our screen in the shape of an actual twitch stream.
amogus
Trust me he's real, he came to my house beat me up and stole my wallet because he thinks I was a bit sus
You had it easy though, he lived in my walls, streamed in my attic while I was sleeping, and then he burned my crops. 6/10 would not recommend the Jerma experience
I mostly remember him because I watched the wrestling game videos he uploaded back in the day.

I love Kiaras' idea here. Poking the same idea our chairman have, making a stream only using her language and thinking that it might open another opportunity for people who knows german. Nice idea, chiken.
it's a very risky and there's a lot of things to handle here, but maybe, like chairman, it's worth to take the risk. who knows.

Kiaras german is somehow just talking english but translated, like you can hear how she thinks in english or builds the sentences and then tries to translate it XD I guess that's what happens if you are too used to english.
Yeah, she basically mostly spoke english and japanese for the last few years.
Basically automatically switches to english while streaming.
Plus she is from Austria, so she also has to kinda switch to standard german, which also takes some additional thinking if you are not used to it.
true, it sounda kinda weirs
@@trueValara Nah, austrian german and standard high german have not much difference.
@@skeletonwar4445 I am from Austria, quite close to where Kiara is from even...
While we all can very well speak standard german, it often sounds forced or just slightly off when not done frequently.
It's almost like telling an American to speak in a proper British accent. They can do it, but it's just kinda off sometimes. And you definitely notice.
Oiso, kaunst du des vastehn?
@@trueValara Not what I meant, my bad.
There *is* a noticeable difference between standard austrian and high german, but it's nothing too out of the ordinary when it comes to german dialects.
Like, you can understand an Austrian speaking in dialect way better than f.e. a Bavarian doing the same.
Im so happy she started doing german streams, i want to learn german and its gonna help a lot. Also lets her branch out back to her homeland more.

I am impressed how all those clip channels translate vtubers from so many different languages
The feeling when you speak English so much you have trouble finding the correct words in your other germanic-language tree based language.
love how she translates branches to Branche, which is a totally different word lol. english speaking germans don't have it easy sometimes since the languages have so many false friends that sound deceptively similar.
Growing up in a english-german household this definitely caught me out a lot when I was younger! It even became a massive issue when I started school and would speak in a mix of english and german. In the end mum had to stop speaking german at home because no-one could understand me...
Not a different word tho, it's the correct one.
Branch can mean either a business branch or a literal tree branch.
Branche in German is a synonm for Geschäftszweig, which is a business branch.
@@skeletonwar4445 i mean you're kinda right but its used a bit differently in each language.
@@Flugmorph Not really?
@@skeletonwar4445 The german "Branche" is more overarching than "business branch". "Business sector" would be a more fitting translation. Like, you wouldn't call different departments of one company a "Branche"

The subtitles are actually close to (if not) perfect! And that’s kinda difficult to do for German-English because we use different tenses and have a different sentence construction
As a German it's so weird hearing a person I'm used to in English speak German.
Kiara speaking in German just hours different. 💖😩

I assume you meant ”hits different” and autocorrect screwed you over.
I relate so hard to this. Just randomly saying things the wrong way (Diskriminierung) because you aren’t used to speaking German anymore 😂😅 it’s my mother tongue I shouldn’t be making these mistakes
True. She also used “heraustrompeten” instead of the more proper “herausposaunen”, because the first is how you would say it in English (“to trumpet”). And she used “Branche” for “branch” although “Branche” has a different meaning.
RIP in peace another clipper
Wait did Pamomi actually die or did they just take a break or smth??
@@NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache a lot of clippers exist and die over the years.
2024, if you're subbed to 300+ clipper channels across *all* languages, there seems to be a drop in clippers notably this year.
Back in lockdown period there used to be like 300-400 clips from holopro a day. I'm currently noticing only about 100-200 clips/day.
@@Elit3Blaze I'm not talking about the channel, I'm talking about the person. You said RIP so I'm wondering if the person actually passed away. @@NotSomeJustinWithoutAMoustache no one knows
It's so awkward when you're switching between languages and keep using same/similar words. Happens to me regularly where I take English words and just pronounce them more German-like.
Btw when Kiara says "Branche" she means "branch" which would be "Zweig" in German.
"Zweig", in turn, is cognate with "twig" in English.
Well "Branche" is the german business word for "zweig" meaning "geschäftszweig"
Branche is correct tho?
"Branche" refers to a commercial sector, far larger than a branch of a business.
Imagine how Spaniards feel listening to Portuguese and you are turning up the effect ten times. The closest equivalent for English in that regard would be Broad Scots, which ought to be considered the closest language to English but as the old saying goes, a "a language is a dialect with an army and navy".
If feier kiaras content so hart

kiara speaking german is so cute and charming!!
Wait a minute. Pamomi knows German? Whoa.
German-speaking countries are a fairly untapped market for Vtubers, so I feel like there is potential there, especially with the Hololive boost. High level of disposable income for superchats and merch, relatively close physical proximity for off-collabs, multiple language proficiencies of both streamer and viewers for more outreach, a tendency to obsess over things and a great senpai to help at the start.
Most German speaking people with access to the internet are already capable of English.
So it's not that clear cut how much potential there is
That sounds similar to Sweden for me, everyone in Sweden knows English on top of Swedish. The only ones that don’t know english are really old people or little kids like toddlers.
The only time where it’s worth it to translate or dub something in Swedish is when it’s something targeted towards the kid audience. I wonder how similar it is for the german speaking countries? Is it the same?
HoloEuro?
@@1nt9rn9t-dudewillheim2 At least as far as I can tell English isn't quite as wide -spread here as in Sweden, most Germans can probably communicate the basics in English, but that's it for a lot of them. It's more prevalent in the younger generations, ofc especially gamers and people with higher education, but nowadays I think every German child has to learn English in school at some point.
@@1nt9rn9t-dudewillheim2
Yeah, it's kinda similar.
Most people can understand english well enough to not need translations. Especially the younger generations. Not quite as well as in Sweden though.
But there is another big factor:
German is one of the biggest dubbing markets, especially for anime, it is the 3rd biggest after japanese and english.
Plus it is also really invested into streaming culture, let's just say there is a reason why TwichCon Europe is in Germany.

Its fun to hear ppl speak German as a dutch person, because you can somewhat understand if they talk slowly enough, Kiara is talking fast tho so i definitely jeeded the subtitles its just how it sounds somewhat familiar...Its fun.
0:11 - It is actually acceptable for ß to be written as "ss". For a long time, capital sharp S (ẞ) did not exist, which caused problems in systems that required or forced capital letters (such as the way everything important is CAPITALIZED in early Pokemon games).
In Switzerland and Liechtenstein sharp S straight up does not exist, where it's just "ss" instead.
The lack of umlaut is a genuine problem, though.
