Excellent video. Perfect speed, picture and lighting. Extremely helpful.
I am a long time sculptor and watch different sculptors' video. I really like your's and I find it interest in that good sculptors reach the same end by different techniques. Hope you are doing more videos. Thanks
Thanks you’ve restored my confidence, I’ve been working on a small bust that’s taken two months now. It’s very a well known person and I was getting bogged down, losing the will to live. It’s a good thing to never think of it as a finished item until you have finished chopping and adding and can do no more
I've been working on.. off and on, on a bust of a friend who passed away... You should check my page... Terry Connor is his name... I started it in May and going to finish it this next week... I've been sculpting since 1965... I still get slowed down... Oh I lost the vision in my right eye in March... and the left wasn't very good either... I got hit with Bell's Palsy in March... the left side of my face was paralyzed.. I have muscles working now again... Pretty much fully recovered..
Sometimes we work under extremes... I've been where you are... Years ago I was asked to do a bronze of John Wayne... by his son... Man that was a hard one to do.. trying to capture his spirit... I know the frustration... I was almost done with the clay when I was notified that they decided to go with a cheaper sculptor... lol.. so I never finished it.
I'm not sure why but I found the smacking of the head hilarious. I literally burst into laughter! But yes, when you're tired you do have to walk away and I'm an amature and I know that. Super job! The talent made me able to sit through the annoying music. Well done Mr. Lemon!
Wow, how have I not found your channel until now? Amazing work and love the background music :) . Thanks for sharing your talent with us on RUclips
Thanks for posting this, David. I learn so much, just watching you! You are amazing!
@KissMyChristin It never hardens. It's always soft. It would burn or melt if high heat were applied. I have my work cast into bronze, making a mold of laytex rubber. It's not like sculpty, or ceramic clay.
Very instructive, especially all the measuring and checking of proportions in relation to the centre line.
Thank you Dash
wow!! love this vid!! expecially when the came is focusin on one part of the clayn seeing it change n how it is spinning around the room!! love the tune too!! makes me feel so jolly!! :) great! love ur work!! i do prefer these type of tune than ur new ones today! keep uo the good job!
this makes me want to get some clay and start creating. altough I have no idea how to begin, your video helps!! nice work!!
@psychopathtoine Well get some clay.. lol.. I'll be starting a new piece.. think it will be a horse and rider piece.. in a week or two.. so stick around.. Thank you for your comment.
I love how medical everything looks in the beginning.
I know.. the music was bad.. lol I no longer use it.
Hello, David
Bradley Byron aka EightEightEight here from D2, very nice work.
Very cool... Thanks for the hello... Sell your house for top dollar my friend..
Forgot to ask you. What clay are you using in this video and why did you choose it. It looks like it is really easy to work. Do you fire your work to bronze? I use waterbase clay. Have plasteline but am reluctant to use it. It seems to be too sticky. Any suggestions?
You mean New York City? No I'm in southwest Montana.. Glad I've inspired you my friend.
no problem. And thank you for inspiring me to have another go at sculpting.
Ha, a good point..."Getting tired of it." "...then you start tearing it apart." - one of those hidden 'gems' to listen for during such tutorial videos (TY). Not something you'd catch/read in a manual.
I am back looking at your videos as I am itching to do a bust - local female acquaintance - natural beauty. Want to broaden my skills...
Q: What is the scale of this? 1/2 Scale? and 2nd question: Your use of tru-form armatures - is it one size fits all (Male/Female)?
The above comments/questions are just an excuse...just like to watch you work. Trying to 'GROK' (Robert Heinlein term) your methodology/process to incorporate/learn as I develop my skills. You definitely are an inspiration.
Hope this comment finds you well.
+PJ Hershey Muscles a bit sore.. spring cleaning pain... lol
I am not sure what the scale was.. I picked a size and went forward with it.. As you say... real life isn't a manual it's living it and doing.
Make your armature ... ask the young lady to sit for you.. see what happens.. Life is life
The figure armature is a mix of male and female.. the shoulders are male wide.. you can just work that out.. the hips are female.. just trim them...
Wow, perfectionism at its finest.
Thank you Alex
Thanks for showing the process. it is very informative, i learn a lot from this video, especially the measurement method.
amazing work .i allways wanted to get in to clay work u have inspire me to do it are you located in nyc
Superb David. How long do you spend a head such as this?
Sometimes a couple of hours.. or days.. I did a bust of Custer years ago... it took me a month..
@KissMyChristin It's an oil based clay called J-mac (medium hardness) You can also get great clay from Chavant.
Grande "Maestro"... la seguo ammirato, vorrei tanto poterla conoscere personalmente. Grazie davvero per tutto e buon lavoro!
Paolo (Genua-Italy)
+Paolo Croce Thank you Paul
thanks for this fast and outstanding lesson!!
Thanks a lot for sharing your works here! I learned a lot!
Insane sculpting. Some weird music like Blotted science would make this vid even more awesome.
I'll think about it.. takes a lot of time.. Why don't you try? Do you have clay?
Do you have any tutorials or lessons on here? I would love to learn how to sculpt.
I love that tune as well.. I'll have to see if I can find it again..

If you become famous.. you should share as well.. I stopped off in Tokyo back in 1991 on my way to a one man show of my work in Jakarta.. wish I could have spent more time there in Japan.. Nice that I'm of some help

Beautiful work. (first of all excuse my English, I am from Colombia) I have a question: what kind of clay are you using in this video? I ask because it seems different from the traditional.
thanks for helping those who want to take our first steps in this beautiful world of Scuplture.
+Simon Forero Flawless English... you speak it very good.
I was using J-Mac here. It's a Plasticine clay... I know Chavant has distributers all over the world... They're great Plasticine clay.. In fact a Frenchman invited the clay back in the 1890 and they've been producing the clay since then.
chavant.com/new_site/index.html
J-Mac can be purchase and Chavant can be bought here.. sculpturedepot.net
I hope this helps.. the clays never dry... or harden... I take my clays to a foundry to be cast in bronze
