Art İstanbul - Feshane

Artistanbul Feshane veya eski adlarıyla Feshane ve Feshâne-i Âmire, Osmanlı padişahı II. Mahmud tarafından 1833 yılında, Yeniçerilerin yerine kurulan Osmanlı Ordusu'na üniforma üretilmesi amacıyla Fatih'in Kadırga semtindeki Cündî Meydanı'nda kurulmuştur.1839 yılında ise, günümüzdeki yerine taşınmıştır.
2018 yılında İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi tarafından başlatılan restorasyon çalışmaları sonrasında, 22 Haziran 2023 tarihinde kültür sanat merkezi olarak Artistanbul Feshane adıyla yeniden açılmıştır.

Feshane, II. Mahmud'un Osmanlı Ordusu'nun üniforma ihtiyacının giderilmesi amacıyla 1833 yılında kurulmuştur. İlerleyen yıllarda fabrikanın yetersiz kalması sebebiyle, 1839 yılında, günümüzdeki bulunduğu yere, Eyüpsultan'ın Defterdar mahallesinde yer alan ve Haliç kıyısındaki Hatice Sultan Sarayı'nın fer‘iyye kısmına taşınmıştır. 1894 yılında tesisin genişletilmesiyle içerisinde Sanayi Sıbyan Mektebi açılmış, öğrencilere teorik ve uygulamalı dokuma dersleri verilmiştir.
1916 yılında yapılan genişletme çalışmalarının sonucunda Feshane, dokuma sanayiinin en büyük fabrikası haline gelmiştir. 1921 yılında Sanayi ve Maadin Bankası'na devredilmesiyle, Feshâne Mensucat Türk Anonim Şirketi adıyla işletilmeye başlanmıştır.
1925 yılında çıkarılan Şapka Devrimi ile birlikte fes kullanımı yasaklanmıştır. Fabrikada bulunan fes dokuma makineleri de 1940 yılından sonra İstanbul Şehir Müzesi'ne taşınmıştır. Sümerbank'ın 1937 yönetimi devralmasıyla birlikte, Feshâne Defterdar Mensucat Fabrikası adıyla fabrika üretime devam etmiştir. 1989 yılında üretimin durmasının ardından, İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi tarafından, çağdaş sanatlar merkezi olarak kullanılması için kırk beş yıllığına Eczacıbaşı Vakfı'na tahsis edilmiştir.Bu süre zarfında yapı, fuar merkezi olarak kullanılmıştır.

İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi tarafından 2018 yılında başlanan restorasyon çalışmaları sonrasında, 22 Haziran 2023 tarihinde, Artistanbul Feshane adıyla yeniden açıldı.
Artistanbul Feshane, or Feshane and Feshâne-i Âmire with its old names, was established in 1833 by the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II in the Cündî Square in the Kadırga district of Fatih in order to produce uniforms for the Ottoman Army that was established instead of the Janissaries. It was moved to its current location in 1839.
After the restoration works initiated by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in 2018, it was reopened as Artistanbul Feshane as a culture and arts center on June 22, 2023.

Feshane was established in 1833 in order to meet the uniform needs of the Ottoman Army of Mahmud II. In the following years, due to the inadequacy of the factory, it was moved to its current location in 1839, to the fer‘iyye section of the Hatice Sultan Palace on the shores of the Golden Horn in the Defterdar neighborhood of Eyüpsultan. In 1894, the facility was expanded and the Industrial Sibyan School was opened, and theoretical and practical weaving lessons were given to students.
As a result of the expansion works carried out in 1916, Feshane became the largest factory in the weaving industry. In 1921, it was transferred to the Industrial and Mining Bank and started to be operated under the name Feshane Mensucat Türk Anonim Şirketi.
With the Hat Revolution enacted in 1925, the use of fez was banned. The fez weaving machines in the factory were also moved to the Istanbul City Museum after 1940. With the takeover of management by Sümerbank in 1937, the factory continued production under the name Feshane Defterdar Mensucat Factory. After production stopped in 1989, it was allocated to the Eczacıbaşı Foundation by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality for forty-five years to be used as a contemporary arts center. During this period, the building was used as a fair center.
