Of all of Lynne Arriale's Trios over the years this one with Jay Anderson and Steve Davis is my favorite. Honored to have know her and count her as a friend...privileged as well to have hosted her trio at Windham Chamber Music Festival a number of times.
I already knew I loved Lynne Arriale and her guys, and now I know I love Mountain of the Night. This is jazz piano lyricism at its very best. Tasteful. Delicate. Intelligent.
In 2005 I worked on a piano festival highlights project that included another of The Lynne Arriale Trio’s performances of this piece; ruclips.net/video/P-iW4uT_WrY/видео.html and it brought tears to my eyes from the first time I heard it (and many times since). Some subtle differences in her performances but always so incredibly evocative and emotional. Beautifully bittersweet, timeless, and always takes me away like a welcome dream.
