Cars used to have character. Used to be simple. Now, cars looks the same and overenginnered ... Watching your videos reminds me of a beautiful era, with real cars.. Hello from Greece
Christos. Totally agree with you.
Can't you put the fuel regulator on the fuel line and still use the pump?. Me i would buy a new tank and start over
Great story about your friend Spiro, his memory and his spirit will always be with you!
454 ci and still tons of room in the engine bay. That’s old school.
Unless its a mustang.
@@davidleavitt3804 a 351W barely fits in a Mustang unless big block shock towers are used. That's the difference between GM & Chrysler.... And Ford. Ford engineers weren't smart enough to design the Mustang to accept ANY engine they had available while GM and Chrysler DID design even their smaller muscle cars ('Cuda, Challenger, Duster, Camaro, Nova, etc.) to accept ANY engine they had. The Boss 429 Mustangs had to be sent out to a specialty shop to be modified to make the 429 fit... Even then, everything is REALLY tight and a real pain in the ass to get to. I've always said that Mustang fans love Mustangs because they don't know any better. I worked at a Mustang and Camaro shop back in the 1990's building both. The Mustang has a build quality that rivals the Yugo. Weak unibody frame, CARDBOARD heater plenum, only partial front fender wells... I could go on. They look great and are fun to drive, but they're junk. Give me a MOPAR or GM any day.
@@craigcampbell8560 I agree. That's what I meant. The funny thing is Ford still builds them with those shock towers too.Yes the Chevy II was the same way from 62-67 but at least GM surprisingly redesigned them and used the Camaro sub frame or a BBC wouldn't even be possible.
@@davidleavitt3804 Exactly! Prior to '68 there's NO getting a big block into a Chevy II Nova without scrapping all of the frame and suspension and tube framing the car. From '68 on a big block will drop right in. Sure, it's a little tight, but still has more room to work on it than a Mustang with a small block in it!
@@craigcampbell8560 I know you ain't talking about the 79 and up Mustangs. I have a 1980 with a 351w and I've also helped my buddies put 460's in the 79-93. Then you've got the mod motors starting in 96 and they are as wide as a big block, especially the 5.0 Coyote starting in 2011!!!
That car would look good with a set of GM Rally Wheels!
yep. 15's monte 7" front and vette 8" in back
Halfmoons is not for me his car
I was thinking it would look great sitting in my garage!
Rallies are the only way to go.
Yes its always important to make sure the posi track is working before it leaves the shop!!
I like these problems solving episodes. Especially on mod cars. Great job
I'd have to have a deeper fan shroud
Has anybody ever used a squeeze bottle to prime carburetor bowls besides me
My quadrajet would leak down over night and I'd use a small funnel to pour acetone into the vent tube to fill the bowl when I wanted to start it. Acetone is also a good octane booster along with xylene.
Troy. The squeeze bottle is the correct way. No fuel in the shop at that moment.
@@nickpanaritis4122 as usual Nick you don't disappoint .... Would love to come to Quebec in my Petty blue 340 Roadrunner
Nice driving Vasilis!
Typical understatement “now we know the clutch works “ rofl
That's a chevy for you they have the long arm or short arm fuel pumps they can't have one pump fits all they all gotta be different
The small block and big block pumps are identical except for the pump arm that is about a 1/4 in. Longer. Learned that the hard way too😁🇺🇸
it's interesting though to the blind eye almost looks the same doesn't it? just that little tiny offset can put a monkey wrench into the whole package
It's also a gen 2 454.
Some late model fuel injected cars camshafts don't have fuel pump eccentrics. They don't need them.
Nick's favorite engine build!
People go to church on sundays. We go to nick on Monday's. Thank you guy's
That pump will not fuel enough for that motor. You need 1/2 fuel line also for 570 horse power.
Is it just me or Vasili spraying brake cleaner in the carb? I def see a brake disc/caliper picture on the can...
Great work! Doesn't get much more "street machine" than a 4-speed big-block Nova with slapper bars and Cragars.
On a complete rebuid engine u didnt put a new pump on it? If thats a doubpe pump.carb ur gonna need a fuel regulator to put more gas to carb ..
You can’t get that same enjoyment from an ev. The sound and rumble. Long live the ICE!!
Those fuel injection conversions on older cars are generally a mess with wiring etc parts and pieces.. and more trouble then they are worth..nothing wrong with old school carburettors
Especially a carburetor that's tuned right, you just can't beat it.
I was hoping we would hear that sweet idle. “We know the posi-traction is working.” 😂
March has arrived!! Time to get my BBC 454 Corvette with the 4spd out. I wonder if it will start? It has been parked for over 2 years now.. :( . I bet it will need a new battery and fresh gas in it. I love that old bucket of bolts!! It is scary fast!! 10:1. TRW Forged. Stainless valves with 3 angle grind. Heads port matching and flowed. End caps pinned. All original.. Except for those mods.. I have over 500ft lbs at the tires. It is a hoot!! Since my Dad passed away and helping my mother, I have not had a chance to take this old car out. I am looking forward to taking it out this year real soon!! Thanks Nick for the motivation!!
Enjoy that first drive, with the windows down.
Another old girl comes back to life well done Nick & crew
Reminds me when my dad worked on his Volare back in the 70s, and how pissed off it sounded, he could have smoked anyone in Saturday nights.
i love in house launches
George, I just wanted to tell you how good your video looked streamed from my iPhone 8 to my Samsung 52” flat screen tv- AMAZING! Vasilis, Nick and the blue Nova couldn’t have looked more crisp and clear. Great job, I am very proud of the work you do bringing the shop to my home in Georgia! You guys are my Monday morning addiction when I get out of work on 3rd shift, I come home and watch your new video after my first night of the work week. As I’ve said I am originally from Maine, my dad was a truck pulling champion there, he had a 454 BB in a 1946 Ford. We have memories for those we’ve lost and some are great memories, just like Spiro, this car video brought back good memories for me too. Tell Nick and Vasilis they are two of my favorite guys I’ve ever seen on RUclips, they just seem to be who they are on video and there’s no acting or being crazy, just mechanics who love muscle cars.
That engine sounds like a beast ! way to go !
I have a 454 (L29) in a c3500 dually. Just order some JBA Performance long tube headers, Borla pro xf muffler. Plan on building it up, little by little. Big Block Dually lifted.
I hope that Nova has subframe connectors!
Quarter panels are cheap in Canada!
The truck blocks are actually stronger. Better grade of cast iron and 4 bolt mains. Doesn't matter if it's a big block or small block. I made a super duty 327 out of a 350 truck block and 1968 L79 rotating assembly. Long duration cam and big valve heads made it a real monster.
Whoever installed that fuel pump in the rear and cut the trunk floor, and left it like that, should never work on cars again. Talked about butchering a car and it's completely unsafe as well. That old fuel injection Nick took off should go right in the garbage can and there's way better aftermarket FI systems you can buy today , but I agree with Nick and keep it simple and go old school. After seeing the power that 454 puts out, the owner should order a custom built 9 inch right now because he's going to need it soon. Great video and my morning coffee with Nick was great as usual. Thanks for posting it.
Nick, have you just invented the original "Canadian 🇨🇦Burnout"?? There you have it! 😎
It is my understanding, over the last 20 years or so, OEM's have changed their engine and transmission seal chemistries to succeed with changing operating conditions, ie. higher heat. As a consequence, oil companies had to change formulations to be compatible with the change seal chemistry. Older formulation oils will cause newer seals to fail, and newer oils will cause older seals to fail or just leak. What say you?
You can tell a 12 bolt rear at a glance. Bottom of 12 bolt cover has 2 bolts and bottom of a 10 bolt has just one.
Uh...count em🤷♂️😏
Run out of fingers and start counting on toes....it’s 12 bolt.
@@tomtheplummer7322 What part of “at a glance” don’t you understand?
I don't think a standard fuel pump will supply a 570HP motor without going lean.
Hey Nick, How did you avoid the Viet Nam conflict? I think maybe you just missed it or got lucky.
Canadian.
yes.....hourra..... here Monday 8pm in Thailand and preparing myself to see the best show on Yutube
Hello Thailand!
hot season is coming, dont melt!
Good morning Nicks Garage .
Thank you for diverting me from the "News" .
Morning! Glad to be of service.
@midnitesquirldog1 I just said thank you to Nicks Garage for diverting my attention from the news when you in your "infinite wisdom" hit me with that "news" . Wich by the way is complete hogwash . Propaganda . Wake up trumpist ! Wake up open your eyes Copper Top .
Melissa MELISSA ,
Dear Lord in heaven what have I done ? ... MELISSA ...
@midnitesquirldog1 wash your hands wear a mask stay home or just away from innocent people . Please do not procreate please .
WAKE UP COPPER TOP !!
Leave me alone I'm getting into some Old School Muscle . I'm loving some screaming tires major cubic inches and expert experience with muscle car magic courtesy of these great Americans at Nicks Garage .
Login It ! beautiful 72 NOVA yes !
Did u know that the word Nova in Spanish means “not going”
Believe it or Not, just for ur FYI !
It would sound so much better with long tube headers and a better exhaust to hear the cam lope. I had to take mine off my Corvette because of smog rules here in Ca. My car now shakes instead of lopes with the shorty headers..
@Car Guy daddyo Not so sure. The long headers in the dyno room I think belong to Nick. Nice engine but my point is it sounds awful like it's plugged up..
Gotta love the Blue 70-72 Nova's! You ain't' a real muscle car head if you don't. Just a badass GM design.
Please get a small squirt bottle that allows you to fill up the bowls of the carburetor with gasoline it works so much better and is much safer when trying to fire a new engine. And if you use flammable brake cleaner it turns into a poisonous gas after it goes through the engine.
My Favorite Monday afternoon ritual. Nick's Garage and Coffee. Helloooooo everyone
Thanks for joining us, Brendan.
Yep u guys had a fuel pump for a small block chevy I bet on thare
Waow this SS Nova is a quality roller Sounds really meaty when the engine turns over It's certainly got that old school cool The 454 can really spool Vasili is as cold as ice when he's got electrical wires to splice When the boys are finished this 72 will be twice as nice The number plate says Bad News Nick needs to test it so Vasili's giving the rear tyres some use Nick's Garage on a Monday the only car show I'd choose Click the like and subscribe because if you snooze you lose and lets get Nick and the team some well deserved views
you can buy a NOS gas tank for the nova with a built in sump on the bottom ,great for drag racing
Bear cubs trying to start that .high pressure electric pump won't let fuel thru unless it has power. Air thru hose is the 1st thing you try.
Put some gas in a squirt can and pump it down the carb vent tubes. That ether treatment is BAD!
Hillary. Good point.
nick love the videos and content!! all the dyno pulls and assembly of cars its freaken awesome! watching from missouri!! stay safe!😉🖖
Always the best. And a burnout. I'm 62, and this never gets old.
Thanks, to Nick and his awesome crew.
Right on!
Hey!! Theres a sweet blue Jensen interceptor on the lift at 3:54 alright!!
WOW....What a 8AD-NEWS...Power house....Mighty strange about your fine friend and that car....Thanks Nick and Vasiney l am sure l did not spell his name right & George of course...Super fine video....!
steve. Vasili. Thanks for watching.
Good morning Nick: can't wait for the border to reopen so I can come to visit you guys 😊
Right on. Let's get this thing done so we can all get back to some of the things we are missing.
@@NicksGarage 💯💯💯
Make sure you have a big block pump there is a difference between a small block and a big block. Also probably going to need a 3 core radiator to keep it cool on hot days
My first car was a 1970 Nova. Miss that car. Beautiful. Love the old school Cragar SS rims.
Those are the newer Cragars... original Cragars the spokes were fat toward the middle and small at outer ends... looked strange... Maybe they had to wait for American Racing's design patent to expire... or decided to pay royalties to get much higher sales...
@@BuzzLOLOL i remember that when i ordered a set of 15 x 4 s/s for the front of my 57 210 2dr they looked different from the original 15 x 8s out back
@@Hot80s - My buddy had the backwards looking ones, but I didn't say anything...
Now that's my favorite chevy right there! You guys are awesome!!
Careful reaching over that mechanical fan to rev the motor. People have lost limb and life to that very thing. If your gonna rev it by hand, stand to the side so you are not inline with any of the fast rotating parts
Good advice. Thanks for watching out for us.
This '72 Nova brings back memories for me.......most of them bad. I got a wild hare and traded my '70 Roadrunner for a new Nova. What a mistake! It was a small block and despite me following a rigid maintenance schedule, it was pumping oil at 30K. I couldn't believe it! The paint fell off in pieces the size of potato chips and when given a bit too much throttle, the short wheelbase car could turn around on a fella in split second. I had a race Nova with an LT-1 that was beautiful for power, traction, etc. My '72 must of been made on a Friday...........
Got to admit my heart skipped a beat when Vasily drifted sideways in the garage.
Nice video guys!
Great video ! Is it my OCD or did I see a spot of oil under the pinion seal ? Stay safe and healthy. Hope your snow melts soon.
Hanzy. The stain you see under the rear end is from another car. Not from the Nova.
WOW, that guy should have just bought a tank made for fuel injection. They're not that expensive, and no hole in the trunk pan is required.
@10:46 Chrome wheels and baby moon hubcaps - simple, elegant - I'd take a set of these over aluminum wheels any day.
Hey Vasily , you should take off your mask so we can see you smiling when you do the burnout in the shop.
Good morning Nick and Vasili. That thing is going to need a 9 inch rear ended before long.
This is a prime example of "Do not try this at home". Restrain yourselves, kids. This test was done by professionals on a closed track. Do not do this in your own garage.
Amen.
Those look like antique magnesium Mickey Thompson valve covers back when they made them out of cast magnesium which was a long time ago.
I like the chrome reverse rims and baby moon hubcaps too. Those are classic. I had a set of those on my Ford when I was in college. Speedway still sells baby moons but I am leery of anything that is chrome plated any more. I haven't had good success with modern chrome plated parts.
The owner of that car needs to ditch the rear leaf spring shackles though. It would be much better to have the springs recurved if they really need to have the rear lifted like that. It would ride and handle a lot better if they lowered the rear back down. Front is sitting too high too.
ahhh i love the smell of rubber in the morning 👍👍🇨🇦
Coffee freshly brewed, rubber freshly burned.
i bet it was a real dog with that restrictive TBI. setup
A better option would have been a Holley EFI system or leave the electric pump in it and install a pressure regulator to bring down the pressure for a carb.
@Car Guy daddyo Did you see my comment.. It says or
The exhaust sounds really restrictive
That car maybe has 275hp! Can barely do a burnout! Haha! Nice car though!
@Car Guy daddyo lol. Just video shows lame power on those skinny little tires! No big power on that car ! Lol
2nd, good morning Nick. I look forward to Monday morning videos with my coffee.
Morning! Thanks for joining us, Linda.

How are you doing Nick hope all is well. I am going to give you a shout today
Good morning B!
I love watching you get really happy when it comes time to fire up the motors you build. And good morning to all.
Good morning,Sir. Rick from Massachusetts. Check out a friend of the family. His name Nick the Dutch Baker. He and family make fantastic pastries. And he lives up your way. You won't be sorry.
I actually have a 70 NOVA in my shop now with a modern 454. It now has edelbrock carb, solid Cam 3.73 and TH 400. Goes low 13s. It uses an electric fuel pump and adjustable regulator no mechanical pump at all. It used to run a small shot of nitrous to go mid 12s.
Nick even though I'm a mopar guy thats a nice Nova . sorry to hear about your friend. my dad had a dream once . he wanted to take out the good running 472 caddy engine out of the rusted out 77 Cadillac they had and find a early 70s Nova to drop that caddy engine in . well it never panned out and got rid of the Cadillac that would have been an interesting vehicle to see in action . lol I like the burn out in the garage . in my autobody shop class I took in high school a customer dropped off a diesel powered Mercedes benz car . while in the shop it had to be moved a round to a different bay . lol kid thst could drive a standard revved the car up enough and popped the clutch and was able to get the car to do a small burn out 😂 shop teacher wasent impressed 😂
Beautiful blue, damn a real BadAss car holy cow....Great work Nick and can't spell his name but excellent work your guys do more than rock....
I have a 69 with 454. I’m having hard time keeping it cool. I have aluminum radiator and a 3000 Cfm electric fan 170° stat. Any ideas would help.
Like watching all your videos Nick and getting some tips from you. Your friend would like to see the badnews nova .watching from Australia 🇦🇺👍
Nick, at the 29:24 mark on the video timer, you open the hood, and I didn't see the CHEVROLET valve covers back on it... any reason?
Somebody stole my 73 Nova over 20 years ago. Recently some stoogy from new Mexico called me wanting the title. I was shock and hell no your not getting it. Found out my brother sold him my car. Now I'm working on getting it back.
That's awesome....😃🇨🇦 I have A454 in my 78 Camaro Pushing over 600 hp I love it!!
Why do you ask your mechanic "is the thermostat open" , he tells you it is and then go right behind him and check it yourself ? Don't you trust him ? He also told you the pump was not working from the get go, but you had to run the bill up by not checking it first...................
That’s a lot of snow.. I am glade mine is starting to melt it was such a brutal year I wasn’t able to work outside much.

So this thing Beat out the Buick 455 & Pontiac 455 on Both Torque & Horsepower huh Nick ????
I love growing up in the 70s at the drag races, when people were tru, cars like this was plentiful, always fun
I am specing out a rebuild on my 454. I would love to see the brand and specs on that flat hydraulic cam.

All these cars are 'time machines'.
Baby moons and stock rims. A winner every time.
Hey Nick, I hear you about parts taking a long time to come in. No different with motorcycle parts. Good job boys! the 454 sounds good.
