@@atomics.h.1824 Different kind of funny... love La Monf, but there will probably never be another Roddick. The stuff coming from Andy's mouth were just golden. On-court, press conferences, interviews, everywhere.
Roddick reminds me of the typical Brad type in College who plays quater back on the schools A-team, wears a baseball jacket and picks up all the cheerleaders.
One of the best personalities in tennis ever. I only fully realised it after he retired though. That's good cause I wasn't too sad as a Fedfan when he lost that 2009 Wimbledon final. I would have felt worse if I knew more about the guy he is (so humble, a rare level of funny and natural cool plus a very sharp mind for certain -sarcasm and irony often are signs of intelligence and he's sort of a master at those haha-). We miss this guy on the tour but like enjoy his insightful commentaries and interviews, only wish he was more of a permanent (or regular) commentator for Eurosport or something, or even still involved through coaching..
Around 2:38 Roger says something along the lines of “I always enjoy when we play... and not just because I win“ which Andy and the crowd seem to perceive as a dig at Andy. I think Roger was being honest rather than funny, but when you’re not a native speaker, it’s hard to tell how different that sentence sounds from “win or lose, I always enjoy playing Andy”
Federer is pretty like to pun a lot the other players. Recently many colleagues picked him as the most funny player in the tour, so I think that reputation comes from somewhere hahahaha.
I'd have to agree with you and therefore disagree with your contradictors. He's super good at English no question but his body language indicates (that's a snapshot and it's quite subtle) that he meant it otherwise and just super quickly readjusted when the crowd burst out because he's a smart head and a social animal. Being one of his biggest fans, every time I've seen this footage I've wondered whether people were giving him intentions that weren't his. Your comment convinced me it was a language hiccup as it were. (I realize this was quite lengthy but I tend to pay attention to those linguistic details, being a non-native English teacher^^)
While I really like Andy that’s flawed logic. To be one of the best in history you have to be like Roger Rafa and Novak. You don’t optimistically hope for a weak era you bulldoze through the best and become the best.
Roddick was intelligent, loved the sport and had pride. He was a goof around and a jerk at times but the crowd loved him because he had passion. These new punks are completely different than how Roddick acted. Not even close
King Federer at 09:03... If he does start a round table, Roddick deserves a sit. Salute to the King! - edit - feel free to add your selection of "King Roger's round table Knights" in the comment section below, we do appreciatte your collaboration. (I already said mine, Sir Gawain/Roddick ) hehe
I stand corrected everyone! I have been a relatively recent tennis fan so 2003 is a bit of a distant memory haha (actually, I really don’t have memory of it)
Imagine the entire peak of your career happen to coincide with the peak of the greatest player to ever live - that you have to play in every final. If Roddick was 10 years older/younger, imagine how different his record would be
TBF He was actually pretty fortunate in terms of era placement, his competition the first half of his career was pretty bad, he had some really easy draws on his way to face Roger. It got tougher with Rafa after about 2006 but was still top heavy. I’d say Andy is underrated in the context of his era but overrated overall. And I say all this as an Andy fan.

Those are pretty two extremes there lol
