On some skidders cuz the back end is light we put calcium in the tires to give it some weight. Had a 86 Deere 540b and it needed calcium’ cuz it was really light and that tree farmer looks a lot like it
I'm have since discovered until the budget allows to fill tires, I have to just back down the hills, this one in this video is rather mild compared to what's coming, I was out felling trees this morning but got chased in by lightning and hail.
I used to run a c5 and if you want to make things easier get chains on it and I always liked 2 and 3rd gear for winching. And not sure if you know but stay away from 5th gear unless you are pulling a load cuz she will come to life and scare you if you are not ready for it. Have fun and stay safe
Chains were suppose to be here last week, delay in shipping. I'm still learning the machine, I did not know about 5th gear, thank you for sharing. Thank you for watching I should have some good skidder videos coming up from other parts of the property.
@@Mountaintoptractor the old tree farmer I ran had 5 gears but it was stupid fast and I didn't like to use it much not sure if your skidder has the same transmission in it as the one I ran your skidder is a little older by the looks of it but still a nice one good luck man have fun with it and stay safe out there
@user-lu4nu4nb8e Mine has a new process transmission, honestly not sure if it has 5th gear, strange thing I discovered is it has reverse on the main shift without changing the shifter on the side of the seat. That was interesting to discover.
You would be better off to drop down to a 20 inch bar on you're saw and also need to cut the whips and small garage wood down around the tree you are going to cut before you cut it down. So you have a clear safety zone to get away from the tree.
I run a 28" bar on this saw as I use it for milling, I didn't bother to decrease because I was only cutting down 2 small trees. As for the whips the camera angle did not catch it well, I did remove 10' around the tree was clear, its just that the camera was behind a row of them. Thank you for watching and providing insite.
You need to learn how to put a kicker on your choker and that log would of kicked right around the tree. It all looks like good clean American fun though, enjoy yourself.
Love the sound of the 353 Detroit music to my 👂
Great video. I was a first timer myself once ,just takes practice and patience .She's a beauty.
Thank you, looking forward to learning more. 😊
Right on ! Great video and that’s a nice machine 👍💪

@@Mountaintoptractor agreed 💪

Not too bad 35..ish
Forrest looks very overgrown, keep up the good work with mitigating.
It's literally a 10 year project
Good video, hills are tough on skidders
That looks like a lot of fun.
I have some chains I need to add to it, so then I will be greese lighting through the snow!
