  • It's been a hot minute since I used a hammock for backpacking but I plan to change that soon. I drug out all the paraphernalia to be sure everything was still in working order and thought I'd share some info and tips about using a backpacking hammock.

Excellent video! You demonstrated and explained everything so well. I really like your hammock with its "extra" features. This video makes me want to give hammock sleeping a try.
Btw, you're a natural in front of the camera.

Thank you! I enjoy hammock camping and I'm looking forward to my next trip. This setup is heavier than my current tent, so when pack weight is an issue I'll be taking the tent. I love both, though.

Great shirt, and great setup! That's my issue; I can't get my legs comfortable to sleep through the night in a hammock. I sure love napping in them. Not much better than relaxing in a hammock in the woods. Cold Butt Syndrome!! 🤣🤣🤣 I like how you can put the sleeping pad in there. I bet I could sleep in this kind of a setup. It looks great. Excellent information on how to avoid CBS. I laugh at the terminology, but it's a real issue if you get cold. I do love how hammocks can be a chair as well. Thanks for all the hammock info and tips on how to be more comfy! 😁💚👊

I just got back from a hike and unfortunately one night out of four I dealt with the cold butt syndrome around 2 a.m. I believe I didn't put enough air into the sleeping pad to be lofty and I bottomed out. I refused to get out of the hammock to fix it since I had already been out an hour before trying to fix a suspension issue (my fault for not checking how it was hanging when I set it up.) I had an interesting time with the hammock on this hike. Nothing to deter me from using it but interesting nonetheless and educational.

I've never slept in a hammock before. I'm aside sleeper so I wonder if I'd like it or not.

I'm generally a side sleeper. I can actually sleep on my side in this hammock if I curl just right. Or I'll do a halfway on the side kind of thing.

What breed of dog is that little video bomber?

Ha, ha! She totally bombed it. I didn't realize it until I was editing. I adopted her from the animal shelter. They and the vet feel like she is mostly Rat Terrier. She's my best friend. 🙂

New Rattitude, a rat terrier rescue, hosts an annual Rat Terrier Jamboree at the KOA in Sweetwater, TN near the end of April. About a hundred people and ratties attend each year. Info on the New Rattitude website.

Great setup. Love napping in a hammock but hike with my hubby and share the tent carry. Always wondered if I could overnight in a hammock though. BTW: I love my flextail tiny pump. It’s great in a tent because it airs up my pad/pillow and is a bright light in the gear loft. 🥾🏕️

I may end up getting a flex tail eventually. I like gadgets and on longer distance hikes I could see how the pump would be so nice. My pump sack does a good job but day after day of using it would get tiresome.
