A quote from one of our presidents, "I can make a General in 5 minutes. It takes a long time to make a good horse." A. Lincoln knew something about horses. I quote my dear grandmother who grew up in the mule, & wagon days of Texas, "Boys are like mules. You have to keep them busy or they get into trouble." I didn't know that my grandmother knew so much about boys.

I learned so much from trial and error, lots of errors, beginning with my first horse when I was a teenager. I was lucky enough to be able to think like my horses. Have to say never thought that hand feeding horses with treats would cause behavioural problems. My own pony used to come up to the fence outside our kitchen window (approx 6pm every night) and whinny for our attention. We would say his name and he whinnied back. He knew his name. We would give him veggies ends instead of throwing them out cleaned of course, and fruit as a treat. He was great with apple cores so they were never wasted. He loved his healthy veggie/fruit diet. A good bit of hand feeding. Just a way to bond with him.

It's a very bad habit to teach, especially to youngsters who should be learning that they should respect the space of those with authority. It was a tough lesson for her to learn that I didn't allow that after a whole year and a half of learning throughout her developmental stages that it was ok.

You are right, he was hardly lame at all when you took him back to the stable for his gin-&-tonic! The movement worked the kinks out, just like with us, wher we need a couple of steps to get the bones moving! And he was so calm & lovely walking down the grassy alleyway, clearly thinking, "I don't need to worry about anything here, that's Steve's job, he's the leader & he'll do the looking out & tell me what to do if there's a problem."

I adopted an OTTB from Floida Trac thoroughbred rescue near Palm City. Great place with lots of beautiful horses. If you have time, you should go visit.

If Amy takes the same confidence she has when she is a lawyer into her equestrian life, she will be the one in charge.

Beautiful, dapple grey paint! Never seen that colour before, just gorgeous! And he started out a dark tan/white! That must have been fun watching and wondering what the end result was!! He just needs a bit of leadership. I know how it feels to be untrusting of a horse, it isn't pleasant especially if you are being paid to be his groom!! 2yr old thoroughbred colts at 16.2HH already, and me 5'2"! Yup I had 2 of them under my care. with terrible stall manners and of course ZERO proper ground work ever.

Horses know where your looking but obviously they can’t do that if you’re wearing sunglasses.

I'm busy trying to take you seriously Steve but I'm a detail person and I couldn't help having a good giggle to see the underwear hanging on the door directly behind you. Love your work and don't miss a video.🤩
