Muungano choir, Kenya national choir in the 1980s to 90s does a Luhyia spiritual Yesu Wainyanza , led by the talented late Boniface Mganga and mwalimu Arthur Kemoli
Yesu Waiyanza[ Jesus loved me] Yarunga likofi [He paid my debt] Yachira embole [He's made me say] Yarunga likofi khumsalaba [He paid my debt on the cross]
What an enthralling melody! I remember this tune from my childhood days back in good ol' Kenya. Wow! More songs by Mganga and Kemoli and this amazing choir- please...
This song has been arranged by Lieutenant Colonel Martin Makadia Namboka of the Kenya Army and always provides a spectacular quick march, that took me long to figure out what song it was!
Correction!! I Nephat Oliech arranged it for the military band, first played when I was the assistant director of music in the Kenya Armed forces. 😁, just in case you didn't know.
This song was actually arranged by the late David Okuku Zalo. It is important to mention this because the late Mghangha got it from Zalo. Zalo was a musician par excellence.
A beautiful piece. Long after both Kemoli and Mganga are gone, we shall for ever cherish their work. May the Almighty rest their souls. "Jesus loved me so much that he paid by debt on the cross" that is the message translated. Anybody with the music kindly share with me.
