@@charlessmith4910 As I thought... those first couple of albums were amazing but it’s hard to get people to listen to them. They all want War Pigs and stop at that. I still crank it up and clean my house to it!
Listen again and you'll hear in a whisper... "Cocaine." Sweet Leaf is to Cannabis as Snowblind is to Cocaine. Geezer was their main lyricist. Ozzy contributed, mostly to melody, but also some lyrics. Tony is the riff-master. Bill was the jazziest, funkiest, hardest-hitting rock-n-roll drummer around.
They wanted to call the album "Snowblind", but Warner Bros refused as they felt the slang for cocaine would hurt image and album sales. Sabbath though were cheeky enough to thank the great "COKE-Cola company of Los Angeles" in the liner notes though. It was the second Sabbath album that had its' name changed - Paranoid was originally to be Walpurgis (after the original lyrics to War Pigs), then changed to War Pigs (which was refused due to its' reference to the Vietnam War) - and then Paranoid when the song was recorded to be an album filler (and the suits saw a hit single).
Supernaut is an awesome song. One of my favourites. Do you know the version by "1000 homo DJs"? It was a side project of Ministry and there is a great version of Supernaut by them on the compilation "Nativity in Black: A Tribute to Black Sabbath". The entire compilation is great. A lot of big names there.
When I saw Black Sabbath in 1979, this was what they opened with. I agree that it's a definite fave of mine. I love Tony Iommi guitar riffs and this song has some of his best.
Fantastic so I'm glad you enjoyed it Ozzy is not a songwriter he comes up with ideas or a couple of lyrics. Geezer Butler is the main songwriter for Black Sabbath and Tony Iommi comes up with most of the instrumental parts.
I remember the first time I heard this back in the 80s might’ve been late 70s, it had already been out for a while but I was pretty young, I was just blown away
This is one of the best. "Symptom of the Universe","Spiral Architect","Hand Of Doom","You Won't Change Me"and"After Forever" are some others of their best.
I'm a guitarist and I have learnt a lot from Tony and a good deal from Geezer but it is Bill's playing that draws me back to this band after all these years.
If you want drums...'Symptom of the Universe' by Sabbath sets the standard as far as i'm concerned; the fills are just crazy. Great reaction, thank you.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - their best song off their best album - in my opinion. BTW this song is about cocaine & Geezer Butler (bassist) wrote most of BS’s lyrics.
Beautiful!🔥👏🏼🤘🏼..only track that may hit harder IMO is “Children of the grave” I’d be interested to see what you think..great job as always brother thank you👍🏼🙏🏼
I was 13 when I heard B Sabbath fir the first time. We never heard anything like it. Although some of the songs were dark, they were writing about life as It really was. Geezer Butler was the main lyrisist, and probably wrote most of this song, He was the writer of Spiral Architect my favourite song of all time. But the others were just unbelievable Tony Iommi's guitar he is a God of riffs, and Bill Ward was a drummer out of this world ! The song the wizard would have given most drummers a coronary . And of course sabbath is not sabbath without Ozzy.
Yep as said Here's how it went. The band would get together and jam. Tony Iommi was the creator, he would come up with the riffs.. Geezer Butler, the base player wrote all the lyric's for all the bands songs. He was a master Poet. The band would jam together. Bill Ward on drums was a force of nature. Ozzy would sing any rubbish words, but as the band members said, Ozzy would come up with incredible melody lines, which was usually the final take on the song. But Geezer said Ozzy would come up with one word, which he liked. I do know on the track "God is Dead?" The band members said to Ozzy you cant say that, but he insisted that it was used. So Geezer wrote the lyrics around it. BTW This Song is about Cocaine
One Black Sabbath album I have not really seen reacted to yet is Mob Rules which has Ronnie James Dio when he was singing for Sabbath after Ozzy went solo.
I have said this more than once you take Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath ,and Deep Purple you have the trifecta of Metal! Outstanding!!! Iwas 16 when this album came out and hit my ears and it changed everything.
I think it was written by Geezer Butler. This is their tribute to coke basically. Similar to their song Sweet Leaf being about weed. All 4 members were major coke heads at the time. Great song though
If you want to try something from the Dio years I would suggest Sign of the Southern Cross or Turn Up the Night. Both are great songs and both are from the album The Mob Rules. Which is also a great song on that album. Love your reaction. This is a favorite of mine from their early years. Seamless transitions, great musicianship!!
Chod, I liked how your jacket colors match the album cover. all you need is a poster of a Pittsburgh Steeler in the background, ha ha. This was my second Sabbath album as a rocking teen, after Paranoid. The riff God, Iommi, with Ozzy, plus the other guys, always a win. liked your enjoyment as it transitioned to a faster groove There is a great live version of this. If I can find a link I’ll send it to you. Try “Supernaut” off of this album.
4 Black Sabbath songs, each one with a different vocalist: "God is Dead?" Ozzie, "Lonely is the Word" Dio, "Disturbing the Priest" Ian Gillian "Nightwing" Tony Martin
Dude.... it's "what you get and what you see (not "what you see is what you get"). That's actually the opposite.... and the song is completely about being hooked on Cocaine, as he whispers the drug in the beginning vocals. That is what all the metaphorical poetry is about throughout the whole song.
This is interesting I have known this all my life. Did not know it was called snowblind. ( my old man was in charge of the tunes) Think it came out 72-73. So 76 I was 14 ish. ( gotta check out Momma I'm coming home) Now when I saw Snowblind I thought of Styx.ruclips.net/video/QurGAOzAxr8/видео.html That was 82 sounds like a different song an amazing cut. Did a little goggle search WHAT!!!!!! it is a remake of Sabbath's Song. Its about addiction. Happy I did not know that all these years. Maybe it was because I was so young. If i'm not mistaken Black Label Society did it 2 and sounds completely different. Not sure if I think it's a good idea to look at the meaning of the song beforehand. We never did it was radio and albums. What really shocked me was people reacting to people Hearing Pink Floyd's "Great gig in the sky" knowing beforehand it is about the death experience. I never knew that either. The only words are Not afraid of dyin, anytime will do, we all gotta go sometimes. It means something different every time I hear it. The reactors were sad listening to it. Some actually said they'd never listen again it was too sad. Just a thought to ponder. Cheers, all.
Your correct in saying it’s the one. I think War Pigs is an overall better written piece of music but Snowblind is the grooviest joint in their catalogue.
No Ozzy doesn’t write, it’s Geezer. This song is all about Cocaine. Listen to the first verse and pay attention at end of first verse where he whispers “cocaine”

Vol.4 is one of Sabbath's best albums.. Wheels of Confusion is another song from this album with outstanding lyrics.
"Wheels of Confusion" has a killer riff...
At this point they are full on professionals
Must do "Sweet Leaf" from the Master of Reality album. The whole album is my favorite Black Sabbath album.
WOC is awesome. Under the Sun is another masterpiece
I have loved Black Sabbath since I was 13 and I still love them at 64. I have seen them twice in 1976 and once in 2018, all with Ozzy
They were so good! I wore out the first four albums in high school. I stopped listening when Ozzy left so I probably missed some good stuff.

Hand of doom is about heroin
Geezer and Iommi made sabbath

I think their tone is what really set them apart it has a magical feel to it.
SUPERNAUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trust me, from the same album. Hell, you can say that about every track from this album, but yes, SUPERNAUT please.
