Ahh we must have been there at the same time! I love Marrakech. It was my third time there! I do the souks earlier in the morning when it’s less busy and hot. Jemna El Fna is the main entrance to the souks aka the Médina. It looks like you found them fine. They go on for miles and get narrower and narrower the further in you go.
Nooo you should never go to the souks in the middle of the day 🙈 wayyyy tooo hot 🙈 you have to go late in the afternoon when it is cooler. And 900dhms for a theepot, that's a ripoff. Even half 450dhm is a ripoff. I'm Moroccan but born and raised in Belgium. The one thing I don't like doing in Morocco is negotiating at souks because they love to exaggerate a lotttt in price when they know you are not born and raised in Morocco + some can get realy agressive. It gives me anxiety 🙈 Hope you still enjoyed your stay ❤. Morocco is such a beautiful country, I prefer going to quiet Moroccan beaches or nature sceneries eat great food and if I even want go buy something I would rather ask a family member to get it for me than buying it myself 🙈
Naoual A. Ahh we were so foolish going in the middle of the day..! It was unbearably hot..! Thanks for the advice lovely. I totally agree it’s mad how much some of them exaggerated the prices, I was looking at a little dish and the guy said 250dhms and then as we walked away he said ok 10dhms...! What a ridiculous difference..! It actually put us off spending money there as it seemed so stressful! Still loved Marrakech Though and would love to spend more time there to see more of its beauty xx
I'm from the capital of Morocco, Rabat but I live abroad, Charlotte, Marakech is very hot starting from may's so usually the best season to visit is winter and spring, that guy in the souk is insane that's a ridiculous price for a teapot ,you don't buy it for even not a half price, when I go to Morocco I tell my sister to bargain for me better!! le jardin de la Majorelle is beautiful and you look stunning, there is a nice beaches in Morocco I suggest in,Cabo negro, and Dalia beach its wonderful trust me,love you so much and say hi to Lewis and your mum
hat would you say about wearing makeup there lol what if it melts i was thinking eyeshadow, eyeliner, lashes, highlight and lipstick, feel like foundation would be a noooo
jannah imran I wore mascara foundation bronzer etc in the evening and it stayed on fine but it was double wear so that may be why...! Definitely wouldn’t recommend it in the day though 😓
Marrakech was an absolute nightmare for me. I’ve experienced pushy touristy cities before and trust me when I say Marrakech is the WORST of them all. I was chased down the alleyways while being yelled at bc a man expected money for answering my direction question (just a simple yes/no question). And met a solo traveller who was cornered into an alleyway and robbed. Also in the main square a lady doing henna aggressively grabbed my wrist and wouldn’t let go even though I refused the henna she was doing on me. She then also chased me down to pay her when the entire time i repeated NO while pulling my hand away. The list goes on. The people in Marrakech are SO dishonest and pushy. I bought all my souvenirs in Chefchaouen where the people deserve my money for not being pushy.
W001 gosh it sounds like you had some awful experiences. We definitely had a similar experience with the directions, we were walking to a restaurant and must have looked a bit lost, a boy asked us where we were going and we said and he pointed which way it was then asked for money and said he wasn’t an animal and that we were treating him like an animal for not paying him. Made my mum really uncomfortable. I have heard a fair few similar stories and it’s a shame as it’s an amazing city with so much to offer but it gives it a bad reputation x
Hi, unfortunately you picked the wrong time to visit. Ramadan is not the best time to go to Morocco, and even if it's not, you should be with a guided group, not alone 😥
Loved to see you and your mother having a great time together xx
