This incident should be an example as to why you should only hire licensed contractors. First and foremost, this type of work requires a permit which only a licensed contractor can legally perform, or can be done with an exception by the homeowner, but it is ILLEGAL for someone else to do this work who is not properly licensed. In this situation, Palm Beach Tiki Huts has absolutely NO licenses, not even a business license, and can not legally build or even sell this type of structure in Florida.
This isn't even a real business. They filed Articles of Incorporation in 2007 and again in 2013, but failed to maintain them. Each lapsed the following year and I am unable to find anything that indicates that this business is a legal entity. Further, they're not even registered with the county.
The homeowner bears a lot of responsibility for hire this sham operation and will likely bear all the costs. The entire structure and paver work will likely have to be removed, not only because it was built on county property, but because it was done without permits, and almost certainly doesn't comply with the Florida Building Code. Now that this has gone public, the building department would be remiss in failing to issue a notice of non-compliance which will result in significant fines if not quickly resolved.
