Great video young lady! Nice to see young people getting into the canning and self sufficiency! Awesome....I've been canning and gardening for 35+ years and love to see people getting into it! Mike 🇨🇦😁👍
I just loved this video. I sure hope I can get my jars just as sparkling clean as you got yours. We live in a hard water area and everything comes out cloudy, but I think with your method, I won't see a cloudy patch anywhere, just like yours.
TONS of people use their dishwasher so don't worry about that. Not to mention the water gets much hotter than with hand washing. Most of the VERY experienced canners out there on YT use their dishwasher. Nice to see a younger person getting into canning !!!
Thank you sooooooo much for this advice. I just bought 400 old jars from someone for only $3 doz. I was excited because jars are impossible to find right now. However, I was sorely disappointed when I arrived and saw the condition they were in. I am super excited to find this info and hope it works for me. Thanks again!
All good for sure. I'm just lazier that that 😆. I but a product called" descaler" from a local restaurant supply. I fill my old black wb cannery with hot water and bring to a boil. Add the descaler. Using rubber gloves, I dunk the jars into the solution. Leave a few minutes then remove the jars. I run them through the dishwasher. No scrubbing. It also cleans out all the built up scale in the canner. I keep many very large aquariums. I use this to clean the scale on them as well created by the filters and splashing water. It's WAY less expensive than CLR.
Would this work for jars that had at least 100 years of canning. We want a special wedding. Memories. Not pay enough for a house but I hope to get these to perfection.
Please tell me the amounts of water and descaler called please and thank you so much. I kind of would like to be able to continue using after wedding but I could use them to decorate or store stuff. Thank you.
I follow the instructions on the jug. I believe it's about 1 c to 2-3 gallons of water. It chemically removes calcium, lime and other deposits. If the glass itself is etched there's no way of restoring etching/scratches other than polishing. Mine are hard water deposits so the boiling water with descaler works really well and in minutes.
From experience, I'd say depending on the brand of dishwasher you have, there could be food particles whirling around in the cycles. Just saying! I wanted to add that I did find your video helpful since you showed step by step what your process was.. Thank you
Wonderful instruction and example. Thank you for your information! -- I do say, in love, that I had to mute when the music played. It was way, way too loud. IMHO, music is unnecessary to accompany someone's activities. You, yourself, are enough and more enjoyable.
Give citric acid a try. I use citric acid in my water softener, swimming pool, as a brass cleaner and as a rust remover. For rust removal I use 2 tablespoons per quart of water to soak the rusted part for an hour to overnight. For maintaining my water softener I use 1 cup per 40lb bag. For cleaning brass I use 1 teaspoon no more to 1 gal of water and soak the part. I don't put citric acid in a spray bottle as it is better to soak. The main ingredient in Lemishine, used in the dishwashers, is citric acid.
I still can't get mine clean. Tried: soap, bar keepers friend, vinegar, bleach, CLR, Lye, Denture cleaners. Nothing worked. I'm wondering if they are etched more than Calcium build-up
They certainly can get etched. I've had a few over the years that were hopeless. Muratic acid is my last resort, but it's surprised me more than a few times when it worked so well.
@Steve Luzum Please don't use lye to clean the mason jars. Glass is made of anywhere between 60-80% silica, and lye reacts with silica, and will begin to weaken the glass over time if you use it too often.
I would clean the rusty jar in “IronOut”. The regular jars clean with Lysol toilet bowl cleaner if you have lime based mineral build up. I use a fuzzy toilet bowl brush since metal will scratch jars or you can use a scotch bright pad, prefer blue white or red. Green is a bit too harsh for glass
Try your local wine or beer making supply store for the product home brewers use to clean their bottles. It will save you hours of scrubbing. In Canada its called Diversol. Good luck!
Hi and yes I think it will. Do you know what cause the glasses the turn white. Sometime it can be caused by abrasion and that cannot be fixed. If you have hard water and primarily use a dishwasher, that could be the cause of the build up and CLR should work!
Victory Urbanstead my water is hard but I do have whole house water softener installed , so this should not happen. I am not really sure what caused it. Never had this problem before and all of sudden last week I had this problem. Thanks.
@@shwetadesai857 thats weird it happened all of a sudden. Might be build up from the dishwasher then. I know they have treatment for mineral build up for them as well. But good news is should be easier to remove from the glasses because it "fresh" versus years of building up.
Muriatic acid guys but treat it like a science experiment. Gloves and all ,and do your research. Home depot. For cleaning masonry. Big thing to me is neutralize it with a dunk in water and baking soda mix. 🍼 I dig bottles, Stains u couldn't believe. But rule of thumb is use less if it works
great tip, the music is way too loud relative to you talking though. I have to turn it up when you talk and then the walls shake when the music comes on.
Whoever canned with those jars probably did not add white vinegar in the canning water. Some glass can actually be so etched that nothing will clean them because sometimes the cloudiness is not grime but actual etching in the glass. If you use powdered detergent in your dishwasher, it can etch the glass and nothing will make them clear and sparkling again….sorry. Even if the glass is cloud, as long as you have thoroughly washed them, they can still use them for canning.
Not only beautiful but this helped me so much. Using canning jars that are nearly 100 years old for decorations for my daughter’s wedding.

Thank you! Wow, 35+ years! Please feel free to share any wisdom you may have 🤗
WOW! What a beautiful collection of vintage Mason jars! You hit the jackpot. They cleaned up great. Happy Canning :)
Yes, I truly cherish them. They have so much history!

Thank you for the demo. It cleaned the water marks in a favorite vase. Thank you !!!!!
Fantastic and thank you for the huge tips!
Great video. Good job.
How do I clean lids with gaskets attached to them? Thank you.
Cool,thx! Happy new year!

Phew that's good to hear!
Thanks for the info.
Very nice.
Where did you purchase the scrub brush?
Good job
Your are amazing! Thank you.

Very cool.
What is in the solution? I can't find that info.

Thank you for this! I will definitely try this😍
4:37 cleaning starts

Have you ever used acid on Pyrex Coffee Pots ( All Glass & Cloudy )

Interesting, I will try those cleaners with my my old milk bottles. They metal pad didn't end up scratching the jars which I am thankful for.
I am Dut h and I have no idea what CLR is, can you explain that please?
Its a cleaner for tubs and such. The CLR stands for Calcium Lime and Rust remover. 💜
had no clr or vinegar. used the cleaner spraynine. amazing, crystal clear. sprayed, let sit 5 minutes and wha la! clear

Thanks for the tip! I actually do home brew as well so I can use it frequently for cleaning the lees off my carboys!
What is CLR?
Calcium, lime, rustic
I Calcium Lime Rust remover
HEY what is name of that liquid is this available in india pls reply
CLR Calcium, Lime, and Rust!
Hi do u think this work on my drinking glass that has white residues? Thanks

Victory Urbanstead I tried with CLR but it’s not coming out.
@@shwetadesai857 Soak in full strength solution overnight. If that doesn't work. might have to try something else
Try Iron Out after the CLR
This video didn't work twice. I see one thing wrong didn't show a close up of cleaned jars
Calcium what?

There is nothing wrong with washing your canning jars in the dishwasher but use a liquid dish washer detergent.
just pour some ammonia (ingredient in what you are using) in some water in a sink with the jars
I wish I had known this before I threw away my vases. But, at least I know now.
Awe bummer, but you'll be set for the future!
This was like watching paint dry.
Mean…rather than waste your time, since you seem to not like watching paint dry, you could’ve clicked off….just sayin’.
Just tried alcohol and didn’t work at all.
Try soaking the stubborn ones. Reuse the liquid!
I did soak them overnight and the build up lifted even more!
Use vinegar to clean your jars...it's safer and gets them sparkling clean!!!
I've tried using 5% acidity vinegar twice with jars that look like hers and it didn't get all the mineral scale off.
CLR
It’s not scoring pad. It’s called scouring pad
Ahaha thanks, I've said it scoring this far idk if I'll be able to switch 😅
Bleach will only Bleach the stains. Muratic acid, but careful. Do your homework
