We have always found word of mouth is safer than laws, in most foriegn places. Just about safety issues you may hear about or places where gays seem very open. As Australian we are finger printed and photo taken when we enter USA plus need an ESTA. This is no different

Just more control but with no proven benefits.
The US seems to have a similar system. The last few times I have reentered the US I have not had to show my passport. I just look at the camera and they tell me to go. At some point they must have entered my photo into the system. (And I don’t have Global Entry yet. This is going through the regular us citizen line.) Also Delta now sometimes uses facial recognition rather than scanning boarding passes. How Delta has facial recognition data I have no idea but I have seen it a few times now.
I hope that you guys do a video about your time in France recently. I would love to explore that area at some point but would be worried about the cost of living there.
We will be doing videos there eventually, we still have to get through Copenhagen. We have a pretty good backlog.
But the USA doesn’t really have something like this. This is a way for Schengen countries to crack down on illegal 😂immigration. The US encourages it.
@@tobywinter1 The US has exactly both of these measures and have for a long time. Arriving at a US airport I have to provide fingerprint scans and the equivalent of ETIAS is the US ESTA.

It is so important to have all of the current information when crossing in and out of the Schengen zone, Without the information that you both have provided, many people could get into trouble and lose the right to enter for 5 years because of not knowing the current laws and rules that

The UK is bringing in its own version of this. The Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) for those entering the UK, who are not UK or Irish Citizens.
We read about this as well. It is all getting far more complicated to travel.

What happens when Montenegro becomes a member of Schengen? I think it’s time to consider a European residency.
We think the timeline for EU is 2028 and Schengen a few years later, maybe 2032.
Sounds draconian, considering alot of access to personal private data is best secured using biometric data this is actually worrying!

The U.S. government clearly has no regard for the privacy of its own citizens, illegal immigration, or anything else they claim this system is supposed to prevent. Neither does the EU parliament in Brussels. Wise of you to keep a neutral stance on this, though.
By the way, I'm a U.S. citizen in the process of relocating to Europe for family reasons. I'm a bit older than you and have spent time in Europe throughout my life, but your up-to-date information has been extremely helpful. You can get a year in Georgia????? The geoconsul gov ge entering-georgia page provides a "List of Countries whose Citizens and permanently residing stateless persons may Enter Georgia without Visa for 1 (One) Full Year (Unless Otherwise Noted)"
Exceptions are: China 30d, Iran 45d, Peru 90/180d, Uruguay 90d, Chile 90/180d
Yes, you can have one full year in Georgia as a US passport holder.
What about US citizens with multiyear residency in a Schengen country? E.g., would a US passport holder with residency in Romania be exempt from this added bureaucracy? Great channel and data; keep up the super work!

Thanks for the update and clear explanation. I wonder how much this will slow down getting through customs and passport control especially if a couple flights land close together? Seems like it will take a couple minutes per person to get photo and fingerprints.
I think if it’s all automated it can be streamlined. We had to do a photo at land borders into Turkey, however there were long lines.
@@WarrenJulieTravel I was recently in Turkey and they did take my picture as Turkish and USA citizen, almost no wait at all but on the arrival to USA /JFK had to wait over an hour only one line open for passport control.
USA does the same thing with pics and finer prints.

Montenegro is widely expected to be the next country to join the EU, which may happen in the next five years. Just an FYI.
Yes, we expect 2028, bit Schengen will most likely be a few years after that.
Question please, For the EES, it's just a matter of showing up in a Schengen country and Immigration just automatically take a picture and get your fingerprints? There is nothing for you to do or to fill out in advance like the ETIAS? Thank you

Seems like ETIAS was supposed to start in 2024, and got pushed back to May 2025. Any possibilities it might get pushed back again?
@@scottmijin9463 of course that’s possible, it’s actually been kicked down the road several years. However, it seems as though they may have their act together now, so we will see.

Can you tell us what happens if you're in an EU country starting November 1st, and EES goes into effect on November 10th? Do we have to do anything to accommodate EES? Or, does it just happen when we leave the Schengen? We're planning on being in the Schengen for 88 days, before we go to Cyprus.
As it is not currently started, it is hard to say how they will proceed in this case. I would assume you might be fingerprinted and have your picture taken as you are leaving Schengen. As a FREQUENT traveler to Europe ( Netherlands specifically) I have traveled to France, Germany, Belgium, etc and have NEVER seen these supposed borders you speak of. Last time I had to get my passport stamped was in the 80's right before they STOPPED stamping passports going into these (and other) European countries.
It could be from Schengen to non- Schengen and via versa. We were in Europe for 3 months this year and received Passport stamps in Spain, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, But not Hungary, Italy, or Portugal

There are borders around the Schengen not inside the Schengen. Go from Hungary to Serbia or Croatia to Montenegro,, Poland to Ukraine, France to UK etc and you will. The Schengen provides borderless travel once inside.
So the EES will just happen every time you enter a peculiar country - you can’t register, they just finger print you when you arrive??
The data will be stored in a database for three years. We assume the passport will be scanned allowing your data to be seen on the computer screen.
ETIAS will be the online program that will require registration.
One tip when you are doing these presentations, you should diferentiate between "EUROPE" and the "EU". Yes, the EU is in Europe but there are lots of countries in Europe that are not part of the EU... Europe is NOT the EU and vice-versa.
@@makiwa yes we try to drive that home, especially when we’re talking about Schengen. I would hope that most people were able to figure this out from our explanation regarding Schengen. Of course, not all countries and the zone are in the EU either.

@@StefanEdburgall are attempting to join the EU and Schengen, it’s a process. I expect we will see them all in during my lifetime. Montenegro is expected to join the EU in 2028 and Schengen a few years later.
@@WarrenJulieTravel, you misunderstood my point. Of course they all want to join the EU and Schengen but many of these countries are too far behind in terms of infrastructure and their currencies are too weak. I've done a lot of sailing in Montenegro. Lovely country but they definitely need to work on their roads and developing more than highways. I guess I don’t need to tell you because you folks drive to your destinations.
Other countries have been doing this for quite a while, fingerprints included. Big whoop.
Regardless of who has been doing it, this will be a stressor for people who have not been subjected to it previously.
Thank you for the pending regulation changes for travelers to the Schengen zone. One question for you two-It appeared that Bosnia was designated on the map you showed as a non-Schengen country but you didn’t mention it verbally as one of the places to reset the Schengen “clock”. Is it a viable option?

Helpful advice! Ps Not understanding how the Polish bilateral agreement is effected by the new changes? Let's say in December I enter Warsaw and stay 90 days, and fly to non-Schengen Ireland for 7 days, and return to Warsaw where the 90-day clock restarts per the special treaty. I then fly to Prague and spend two weeks and return to Warsaw for another two weeks and fly back to USA. Are you saying that they are automatically checking all internal Schengen movements or that they MIGHT check based on the new, biometric system?
We really don't know the answers to this. When we met with our immigration attorney in Poland, she told us the bilateral agreement was difficult especially by land. She checked with a few of the guards at one of the borders and they told her it would depend on who was working the land border as to how they would interpret the law. This made us decide against utilizing the bilateral agreement. We had considered staying in Poland under the agreement then crossing into Ukraine for 90 days before going into another Schengen territory (a few years ago) but with the war, that was no longer feasible. We do have a viewer that has successfully flown into the UK and right back 24 hours later using the agreement, but with the new biometrics, we are unsure how this will work. Technically speaking, it should be allowed, but it is hard to say how they will work going forward. It is all new!

@@ladylady5637 I made the map, we have a correct map that I thought I placed into this video. If you watch our videos, I use this map quite often. The program I used apparently my finger hit the L section of the map and changed their colors. I have since deleted this map to ensure I don’t grab it again in the future. If you will notice on the first comment, I addressed that the map was incorrect.
Think Latvia and Lithuania are Schengen. The map shown at the beginning shows that they are not.

I will assume not as your Long Stay Visa should suffice.
VERY helpful! So - for my scouting trip to France in Feb 2025, my traveling companion and I will get photo'd and printed after we arrive at CDG, and again when we leave two weeks later. Then when I make the move (with long-term French visitor visa) in mid-2025, I will get photo'd and printed again?
Our understanding is you will have everything done and recorded in a database for three years. I do not think biometrics will be taken each time. I assume your passport will be scanned and then the data will be reviewed.

Gladly, If you were in the Schengen for 90 days and leave on the 90th day and you go to another country for 90 days and try to return, it will only have been 89 days since you left the Schengen. The exit day counts as a Schengen day and it also counts as a day for the other country.

Will you be finger printed again or questioned each time you leave if for instance you have overstayed in the Schengen zone!? And what happens if you arrive in the Schengen zone before 10th November then leaving after EES is implemented how do they check or do your EXIT process in that case if you arrived before it started??? @@davidparrish3538 unless you qualify for residency you will have to leave. Italy is also not a slam dunk, even those checking the perceived boxes have been turned down, depends how much sleep the Italian Bureaucrat got before looking at your package.

I don’t think you will have to do it if you hold an EU TRC.
What do you know about the vaxx passport implemented from September 1 2024 in Greece, Germany, Lithuania, Portugal and other country i don't remeber.
It is a pilot program, but it does not appear to be like the digital CV passport. This is supposed to streamline records throughout the EU, such as childhood vaccines. At this time, I am not sure we need to do a video on this. It is being piloted in Latvia, Greece, Belgium, Germany and Portugal. In 2026, it is supposed to be publicly released for broad adoption across the EU.
why are Lithuania and latvia depicted on your map as non schenegen?
Unfortunately, my finger apparently hit the wrong color and on a small screen I did not notice it. It was uploaded and released before I saw the mistake. If I had gone in and changed it, YT would have destroyed the algorithm of the video. I did make a comment about it and place it at the top of comments to hopefully help.

Sounds like a perfect nightmare now getting through airport passport control if all non-Europeans have to be fingerprinted. I'm assuming the fingerprinting happens only once?
I believe it will happen each time as a form of identification verification. Probably an electronic pad for your fingerprint.
Great way for governments to steal your fingerprints and access your private data especially anything you’ve used with fingerprint access.

This biometrics are not mandatory. USA airports sights say it is a optional. If majority of people wouldn't not comply. This wouldn't be an issue. I traveled recently and didn't comply, I have not problems, agentes where very helpful.

Since you have 90 days in a 180-day period, you will need to visit another country between the 90-day Schengen countries and the next country you intend to spend 90 days in. This is because the day you arrive and the day you leave count.
An example. You have spent 90 days in Italy. You now must leave the entire Schengen zone. Your next country for example is Bosnia, and you decide to spend 90 days there. When you try to return to Schengen it will have only been 89 days, because they share the same exit and entry day. So, we may go to Montenegro and then spend a night in Serbia to add the extra day.

You need a few extra days due to day count of entry and exit. You can’t do 2 countries 90 days each back and forth. A third country is necessary to gain some days in between to allow re access.
You can’t do 90 days back and forth as each entry and exit counts as a day in both countries. You need a third place to gain some days for the shuffle.
